I've had people actually bitch at me for announcing my moves. Accused me of "narrating" my play, Told him he could screw off, by announcing play, it keeps both players honest, and gives proper time to respond.

I don't care if you don't know what your opponent's cards do because that just adds spice to the match, but not knowing your own cards shows you don't even care about your own deck enough to learn it. If it's a continuous effect let your opponent know, if it buffs or debuffs a card let your opponent know

I get a lot of hate because I play 3 Amorphage Goliath in my Dragon Deck and NO ONE reads the damn, everyday it's like 7 or 8 times the same thing about making and entire board to spam xyz/synchros and a get like "dude, u can't" (and and people despise me when htey finally read what Dragon's bind does)
@JoelPhilosophy
@JoelPhilosophy 6 жыл бұрын
I have two habits that I'm not sure if they're good or bad: - I ask to read every one of my opponent's cards because I'm unfamiliar with nearly all modern stuff. It probably gets annoying but I need it. - I take a slight pause after anything I do (effects, summons, phases, etc.) in case my opponent wants to activate an effect or read a card etc.
@pedrodarosamello64
@pedrodarosamello64 6 жыл бұрын
Man, ypu're the one that is actually doing things the right way, reading is REALY important, people get so pissed off because they didnt read the damn card that I just activated, 8-10 times per day I get a "that's so bullshit" because people only notice what Amorphage Goliath and dragon's Bind does when they already screwed up

i did this too when i played, but the more experienced players who already knew all the card effects would get mad at me for not being as knowledgeable as them and taking too long to finish my turn, which really discouraged me from playing :(

Keep track of once per turn effects! Meant a LOT with dragon rulers, and atm True Kings or Zoodiac extra deck summons. And normal summons, especially in a swarmy deck like Fabled or Synchrons where I used to have arguments that I haven't normal summoned yet, after using like 30+ effects & Special summons. And Finally, keep track of the number of battle phases this turn (lol).

some of the most important habits someone needs to learn to do in Yugioh are: 1) you don't know what your opponent card does? ASK! do not stay there and let your opponent do everything if you have no idea what is going on, all that will cause is some major misunderstandings and with you not only more than likely being "cheesed" but you really aren't learning anything either. 2) Don't just touch your opponent cards at random. Some are ok with this but most do not like someone randomly touching their cards or searching their grave or anything. Ask before touching your opponent cards, it'll save you a lot of trouble in the long run. 3) Don't rush through your turn, take your time. Even if you are someone who doesn't talk a lot in duels you can accomplish a lot by whenever you make a play just stopping for a few seconds to give time for your opponent to react to your play. This way even if you aren't saying things like "you going to activate something?" or "!" or "i summon X, ok?" your opponent will still know what you are doing and give them more than enough time to react. 4) This also ties to the previous one but it has to be it's own thing in my opinion. Slow your opponent down when they themselves are speeding through their turns like crazy. tell them to slow down since you cannot process everything they are doing and need some amount of time to think about whether or not to activate something. This way you can more easily track what effects are being activated, what are the possible plays you or your opponent can still make among many other things. These in my opinion are some of the most important habits you need to learn

I bring a small bag of pennies with me to use as counters for cards that have spell counters and cards like "Swords Of Revealing Light" that stay on the field for a certain number of turns. They also help to mark cards that get debuffed or negated permanently. I also like to stay in the habit of owning "token" cards with different pictures so that you can tell the difference between things like my "Scapegoat" and my "Clock" tokens.

You know what grinds my gears, those that don't pay attention while playing a match. If you came to play you came to play, but don't let others distract you. It bothers me when someone I play gets on their phone or starts talking to someone not relevant to the match.

Always know how many cards are in your opponents hand. Also keep track of how many cards they should have on the field, grave, and in hand. It's not uncommon to see people lose games because their opponent had an extra card that can't be accounted for.

I'm so glad you said declare phases. It took me a while to get into announcing end of phases. It's just so easy to play all your stuff and declare an attack. I still sometimes catch myself doing it. Zoodiac, Ritual Beast, and now World Chalice all lend themselves well to the Solitaire playstyle. It sucks because when you play those decks you want to do anything to make your turn not take forever, but you inevitably end up blazing through so fast your opponent has to back you up and then it takes longer than it would if you had just played at normal speed.

Love you guys, I'm re entering the game after 15 years and still haven't decided how I want to break in. But I love your videos, not that it matters but seeing people of color is refreshing. I remember being 14 and the reason I stopped was because the black kids picked on you and the white kids didn't accept you. For me it killed the game. Idk if it still like that but social outlets like KZfaq definitely makes it easier to feel included. Good job guys.

11º: If you have a copy of a card in hand and a card that search another copy of it (for example, a field spell and a copy of terraforming), use the search one(terraforming), SHUFFLE your hand, and then play it (the field spell you have 2 copies of), then your oponent won't have free information about your hand

Stand by phase is not one to announce unless you have something you do there. Its definition is the phase between drawing and using the first card of main phase 1 in my book. Stating clearly draw phase then main phase (so long as you give a second or two pause) is enough for others to note the stand by phase. My main complaint is people just ending their turn and looking at you waiting for your draw and saying turn end. Never knew that note taking could get you in trouble if done to much? I note mainly LP count because I do not know why the kind of damage is needing to be known (beyond when it takes place).

Between Turns and plays, cuz I use an older mat, I tend to put my Hand sideways under the bottom edge of my mat; not under the mat, but along the bottom edge and my Banished Cards I simply put next to the Graveyard, again next to the mat! I should think, though, that nowadays, with the expanded mats due to the Extra Monster Zones, surely the logical place to put Banished Cards would be still on thw mat, but ABOVE the Graveyard? Or am I missing something here? And my mat is the Yugi one from a Gold Set, I believe it was, it has no Pendulum Zones at all, but still says "Extra Deck"! Not that it really matters as I don't play Pendulums at all and with Master Rule 5, well, I don't go into my Extra Deck that much anyway, so... at most I'll only play two or three (a Fusion, a Synchro and an Xyz in other words)!

A big thing with declaring phases, also excessive hand shuffling, is Drastic Drop-off. Especially with counter fairies around the corner, don't want to get game losses because weren't declaring phases, and can't proof what card you just drew.

Back in the day, people would just blast through their turns with a bunch of monster effects ignoring the fact the opponent had a face up Doom Caliber on the field. The player controlling Doom Caliber would also forget this and won't realize it after a number of plays has been made already. Game state is unrepairable at that point.

Yeah. im a casual (GASP) and with my friends I play that if you know you are searching at least 3 times in a turn, we cut/shuffle the opponent's deck at the end of the turn. the problem with this is draw cards, but what we do is we cut just before they draw if they do but if they dont we juat leave it til the end

Scorprock102 I get your point but in tournaments it'd be a problem because players would just look at the next cards they would be drawing then they would know what they're drawing or do a new shuffle if the cards they're drawing are not what they need. But in casual play I agree with you

Usually I tell my opponent that I'll be going back into the deck. I also make it a habit of small talk during games. Just because at my shop everyone is so nice and friendly. Heck I had a vendor pick me up 40 minutes away and drop me off back home.

I don't understand why it's illegal to take notes. Isn't better to keep track of the game and life points?

Randox Talore Just type in Yu-Gi-Oh! In the AppStore and there are many options. In the AppStore I use the duel deck app. With it you can roll dice and it has neat sound effects when adding or subtracting life points. (If you play Dominion, there is a sensational app in the store)
