I literally laughed out loud after you said about "multi tank syndrome".. i just realized it now.. i bought one tank at first, and to my surprise i have 6 tanks now, in just 2 months.. it's really not that cheap for fishkeeping generally! 🤣😂😅

The fishtank bug is real, i got back into it 2 years ago and my largest tanks being 15 gallons and my smallests a 4gallon I somehow managed to get 89gallons of tanks into my gaming room and most of those tanks just house kuhli loaches and shrimp, iv got 3 betta tanks, and one is a planted retirement tank(all tanks are plants besides quarintine) thats 4gallons for my 3 year old, "giant/king" dragon plakat female who is absolutely huge but has poor eyesight due to scaling over her eyes, i know it sounds cruel having a giant in a small tank but she isnt active anymore and often just slowly putts around and i don't want her to work to hard to when exploring for food or boredom

I have 2 male betta in a 55 gal, planted tank along with guppies, tetras, rasboras, gourami and shrimp. They are same size and species, were added at the same time and I spent a lot of time pushing them apart with my finger at the beginning. Then I grabbed one and moved it to the other side of the tank. Took a few days of this but now they are good to go.

I have a Groot air stone. I think every Betta is an individual and perhaps categorized on a whole. My Betta loves the air stone bubbles. He dives into them, or relaxes & allows the bubbles to push him around the tank, just chilling as they do. Phylex is a very playful phish. I also have a wave filter for aeration. He loves the Jellyfish in the tank, will hang out on the side of it, and fluff himself out, or swim up it, & make his bubble nest under the dome.

I used to be employed at the "best" smaller pet store in my local area about a decade ago and have just now started to try and improve my skills and try my hands at a planted setups. It's been good at times and rocky at others with months of research going into it. Regardless, point being, I can confirm that your average pet store employee really doesn't know what they're talking about and normally are just trained to run a cash register with a few guidelines to follow because the entire intention is "must sell product." At least in my experience with reptiles (I've had over a dozen different types of snakes, several lizards including a savannah monitor and tons of arachnids), I used to get in trouble for not upselling things the customer absolutely did not need or even worse could potentially poison their animal, and for things they could have saved money on (like the silk plants that are $30 something a pop that dollar store plants can do the same). It's really sad, but the fact is most big box stores are basically a warehouse for dry goods and don't have any actual intention of getting a hobbyist going.

I feed freeze dried blood worms and shrimp patties to my two Betta fish and yes they are thriving in two separate tanks they have a 6.5 gallon tank and a 10 gallon tank! I'm proud to learn about their care. And yes I have a short fin female Dumbo ear Betta fish with 4 African dwarf frogs in my 10 gallon tank and they are happy together. No one is after each other. And my female Betta won't even eat to much either. She eats what she wants and leaves the rest for the frogs. ❤ I'm proud of her. She learned fast. As I rescued her last Friday.

out of the 3 bettas i have kept my og one used to make lots of small bubble nests may he rest in peace. my current veiltail has never made a nest and my plakat only made 1 huge nest when i first added him and the heater overheated and went to 30 degrees. also have a gold gourami which never made a nest but idk if he is a boy or a girl and even then the flow in the tank would destroy it

I have a really cool male veil tail betta. He is awesome, active, curious and comes when there is activity next to his tank. I moved him from a 7 gallon to a 15 gallon 2 weeks ago. There is both heater and a pat mini filter. I monitor the water changes, and can see the nitrite go steadily down, the nitrate goes down. The water is very hard, but the PH and KH is within normal range. I added roots, some botanicals, and have anubias on small rocks, ozelot plants in the background, and floaters on top. Right now, as I am still balancing the tank, I do water changes every 3rd day, and do around 15 percent change. I use tank water cleaner (AquaSafe), and add biofilter, and fertilizer for the plants. His fins are big and floaty, and his colors are bright blue and red. I am how ever still struggling to find the right location for the filter. He does not like stream, and he flares at the filter, if the flow is too strong. I have it on a half setting now, under the surface, buffed off. He likes it now, but I dont have surface agitation. When I try to set it up with surface agitation, he dont like it. I have tried to put the filter output behind something, but then I dont get agitation on the whole surface. I have now given up, I am going for what makes him happy, and added small surface floater plants to simply cover it up, and give him some roots to float in. The ozelot plant has big leafs that also cover the surface, and give shade to both the betta and the anubias. He lives there with 2 zebra snails. He is somewhat peaceful with them, but he does bully the biggest one of them around a little. I have some concerns, I cant seem to find answers to. Maybe you can help me. I really wanna give this dude his best life :D - How important is the surface agitation? I have a filter, the nitrite and nitrate is stable and low (and going down as the new tank settles in), and I do regular water changes with a gravel vacuum? Did I make a mistake with just filling up half the surface? - Is he lonely? He is very active now, but also aggressive. I dont mind having him alone, but I do wonder if he is lonely. He has many spots to hide and explore, and I try to move stuff around to make it interesting. I play with a mirror about once a week to exercise him. But is he happiest alone? Or is he lonely? he does not seem bored.

I have the same filter, its not available in certain parts of the world though, so he might never seen it. i experimented with different places, but the best compromise seems to be very close to the surface and set to the lowest setting. when it is closer to the surface, it can bubble even on the lowest setting if set far enough up. i have pointed the flow to the middle lf the tank, but with a slight bias tø one side. i place my filters in the back left corner. He might be mad because of too high flow for his liking.

Hi Harry, I have a quick question about your divided tank. I see that the physical barrier keeps the two betta apart, but do they experience any stress from sharing water with one another? I've been interested in doing a divided tank like yours and would love to hear more of your experience with it so far

if you’re talking about the hormonal component, i’ve heard of this being an issue for males and females in the same tank but visually divided. not too sure if the same applies for male to male, but so far so good for my little guys!

changes and fluctuations are what im most concerned about regarding those parameters. which is why acclimation is critical to account for swings. it wouldnt make sense to chase a pH or certain softness for the everyday fish keeper keeping a betta. even experienced shrimp breeders say at least for neos, while yes there is an ideal pH for those shrimps, the main killer is poor acclimation. you’re better in the long run to acclimate your shrimp (and in this case bettas) to the baseline parameters that come from your tap instead of constantly putting additives to get down to a target range hope this helps! maybe i’ll do a vid on it

I have 3 tanks one is all plastic plants the other two are all real plalnts...so i bought the second one full ready for 150 dollars with equipment. 2 of the tanks i found them in trash and i fixed them with special glue...for aquariums. My planted 3rd and last tank i made...i used dirt from the ground the one we use for roses then i threw in there some little rocks from a river. 2 big river wood. I have a led light around 2000 lumens and thats good my 70litre tank. I started the cycle before putting fish with fish food. I have no filter just a pump of water moving the water i have plants and grass 2-3 months now...and its gowing pretty well. I also have a heater and thats all. The whole cost of it was 40 euros without the plants total was aroudn 60 euros. I already had chemicals etc. I had a sorority dont try they kill each other. Betta can live tho from experience with neon tetra if they are many above 8 pieces. Betta always kill the weakest day after day they even work together to kill the weaker betta and that goes on u cant relax them there is no way i had caatapa leaFS and all kinds of stuff going. Salt helps with wounds...but there is no way im getting back to that mess... i wanted a male betta now i got one...and after my plants will grow as i multiply an egeria densa by cutting a part of it and sticking it on the ground i will eventually after months have enough oxygen to add more fish like neon...for cleaners i use snails...they stop multipling if u dont over feed...if tho food is on the ground they grow more eggs. Plecos dwarf dont go in planted tanks i put one from my fake plants tank in my planted and cause they move fast they throw dust in the water and its a mess...thats all i know...also shrimp is killed my betta i thought of doing it. Thats all hope i gave u some help with some stuff. Im in the hobbie for over a year...probably more than i can remember. Also dont waste alot of money on bacteria. Put fish food in the tank ever day raise ammonia crazy then throw 20ml of bacteria...then wait and keep feeding with ammonia...after a week throw more bacteria to help it more...and wait repeat the proccess till u read on ur tests that u got zero ammonia when u stop feeding. Plants also help with ammonia. After u cycle it put fish...so u can avoid the ammonia spikes. Plus after adding fish expect that bioload is higher so the tank will need more tests to be run...so u can know what up with bacteria u might need to give it some more plus water changes... okay thats all i could think of for a new person in fish keeping good luck.

I doubt it. There’s this one Betta hobbyist she has a couple of her fish in 2.5 tanka. They look perfectly healthy. And a lot of ppl in her comments say that their Bettas didn’t fare well in large tanks so they transferred them to smaller tanks and the fish got better. She and they say it depends on the fish whether they’ll like a small or large tank. She breeds them as well, seems like she knows what she’s doing.

Yes. It really depends on the betta’s personality and amount of cover. My male hellboy betta lives in a 16 gallon heavily planted tank with a dozen Pygmy corydoras and 5 Amano shrimp. Once in a while he’ll chase but it’s rare and he’s easily distracted by all the plants and caves. Lol. Having a lot of cover in the tank will increase your chances of success but again it really depends on your betta’s personality. Best wishes for your future attempts!❤️

I don't run an air pump on any of my tanks. All super heavily stocked with plants. One has no filter because it's so heavily stocked but does have co2 because there's difficult plants in there. My other ones have small sponge filters and one underwater fluvual u4 filter. No air pump just mild surface agitation from the filter because bettas don't like flow. All plants super healthy. So take out the air pump or else leave it and turn it down low. Some bettas enjoy it. Just as long as it's not really strong.
