Cruise in May 2024. My daughter only teenager. Does she need buy drink package also? She's under age and does not drink alcohol. I see there's a soda package but does not drink soda either

If it’s Royal Caribbean, call them and tell them the other adult in your room cannot drink for medical reasons. They’ll allow you to purchase it for yourself as long as the other persons gets at least the refreshment package.

What stops me from buying a drinks package is having to pay for every adult in your room. My wife is not a drinker, so it is just a waste. I really wish it was per person.

You can call the cruise line directly and explain, and they may provide you an exception. My partner doesn't drink due to a medical condition and we didn't have to pay for hers. It may work, it may not but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Another big tip, if you are traveling with another couple and one of spouses are not drinking for each couple then just book the two drinkers for the same room and the two non drinkers in the other room. That way when you both have to have the drink package then it’s on the right two people and not wasted on the non drinkers. No one is going to care which room you actually sleep in

we traveled with a couple that didn't realize their fare included the drink package. I don't drink much so to me my alcohol bill is less than just the gratuity on the drink package so we always waive the "free" unlimited drink package and opt to pay as we go. Well on this trip for dinner my friend would always ask me, "so what do I want to drink tonight?" and get me my drink.

Was considering the drink package but I’m sharing the cabin with my mom who isn’t a drinker so I tried to add my nephew onto my drink package who is another cabin but they wouldn’t do it that way because he’s not sharing our cabin..🤷‍♀️??..In my opinion, I think bottled water should be free.

One the first day, find a bar that is convenient to get to. Go up to the bartender and introduce yourself. Then drop a $20 tip on the bar with your first drink. They will be your best friend for the entire cruise. (We got the drink package knowing full well we already tipped, but this was to get the extra special service.) You'll get extra special treatment - less wait time to get served during peak hours. Extra pours. Always premium liquors. And the best of all, the extra smiles and convos when you order. My guy saw me out at the port and ran up to me to take a photo for our group (and we got a selfie with him for the memories.) Best $20 tip spent. We also gave him an extra few bucks later on because we appreciated him.

We gave a $20 tip to one of the poolside waiters the 1st day of a Caribbean cruise. He’d spot us from across the pool and come running to get us anything we wanted and would stop by often to check in. Indeed, a well-spent $20.

@@foobarmaximus3506 We also gave tips in advance when we booked the trip. This was extra. We also refreshed that tip mid-voyage, and to a few different bars on the ship. Plus, I always tip 20%. Don't come at me, bro, unless you know.

Tipping before is always best! My dad gave the nurse in his doctor’s office a $100 (behind the back of the doctor of course) and when dad needed a refill or anything he got it. No call backs or other hassles. I was a little classier and bought $100 gift cards at the grocery store to send nurses at Christmas, especially if they are giving you samples of medication you’d have to buy anyway. Money talks my friend.

One of the principle reasons I buy the drink package is to reduce stress while cruising...What stress you might ask...the stress of constantly looking at how much did I charge today and what is my bill going to be at the end of the cruise. If I have prepaid for everything, there usually isn't a bill at the end of the cruise and I rarely check my account...only checking really to ensure there are not erroneous charges on the account. I have found that this simply makes for a more enjoyable trip.

Definitely do the math first! Drink packages for me are a total rip-off. On Celebrity, here's a sea day of maximum drinking for me: Coffee and juices at breakfast for free. Specialty coffee in the morning ($5), soda at the pool ($3), beer at lunch ($7), afternoon cocktail ($12), soda ($3), dinner cocktail ($12), evening show cocktail ($12). Grand total for all drinks is $54 + gratuity; $11 for just the non-alchohol drinks. Booking early, the classic beverage package is $81/day and the Zero Proof package is $27/day. Going a la carte, I save $27/day on alcohol or $16/day on nonalcohol. I also save about $10/day on the 20% automatic gratuity. We drink free water using our Brita filtered water bottles that we can fill in our room. On port days, 1/2 those drinks wouldn't happen when off the ship. I'd have to drink at least 4 or 5 additional beers or 3 - 4 cocktails per day to make that a good deal. Or, I'd have to drink 5 or 6 additional coffees and sodas to break even on the nonalcoholic package. I would have to that every single day of the entire cruise, including port days. Not going to happen!

I’ve been on 19 cruises and only had the drink package once! It was nice to not have to worry about accumulating a tab at the end of the voyage. If I don’t plan on having at least 5-6 drinks a day EVERYDAY, then it’s not worth it to get the package. I’ve learned to order a bottle of wine on day one and have them store it in the cellar and bring it to me the next night during dinner. And Royal and NCL allow you to bring two bottles to keep in your room. 👍🏽 These tricks allow me to keep my bill low.

Drink package is an absolute must for me. About 3-4 drinks morning to noon, then about 4-6 drinks afternoon to evening. Plus shots of tequila on the side with some of my pina colodas. After a week of drinking like this just need to be careful we dont turn into a alcoholics returning home.

We had the drink package included when we sailed on The Celebrity Edge last summer in Europe and we enjoyed not being stressed out ordering drinks. We like having several mimosas with breakfast, then several drinks by the pool. Drinks before dinner, wine at dinner than a few after. We both drink especially on vacation so it really works out for us. We are now going on an 8-day cruise with only 3 port days. We got the classic beverage package for $59 a person, it was on a flash sale. For us that is totally worth it, with coffees, waters, and alcoholic beverages! We leave in 37 days, we can't wait!!!

My wife and I cruised on Princess back in December. Our drink package included 15 drinks per person per day and unlimited non alcoholic drinks and premium coffee drinks. It also included gratuity and internet. We made friends with the bartenders the first day, tipped them a little extra, and every time they saw us they made sure we wanted for nothing, and only got the best quality every time.

@@user-sf9cd9wl8w I tipped them $50 each and was drinking unlimited 18 and 24 year old scotches, they would send me to my room with entire bottles of wine, etc. They would make someone else a specialty drink and make an extra for me to try, the service really went over the top. Depending on your budget, I feel I got every cent out of my $100 investment.

I echo the water bottle tip. Every time we pass a bar on our way up to the room, we grab water from the bartender. We are used to drinking a lot of water each day. It saves us money in port, and we don't have to worry about drinking water in a place where it could make us sick.

I'm sailing transatlantic on Virgin Voyages in April. I like the way they work it. Instead of a per day charge, you buy a bar tab and they throw in a bonus. I bought a $300 tab for 15 days and got $350. Also, the tab can be shared--you don't have to buy for each person in the cabin.

We got the package for our 28 day South Pacific cruise on crown princess. Definitely oh so worth it, especially when there are so many sea days. Between our morning and after dinner specialty coffees, sometimes with a shot of something, and cocktail hours and time by the pool, it was such a carefree experience.

You are so correct to purchase beverage, as well as dining packages beforehand. The earlier the better. Besides being 20% lower than purchasing on the ship, one can catch a special on-line sale that can offer an additional 20% off. We rarely purchase a beverage package. Our drinking habits just don't warrant the price. Basically, we just have a glass of wine at dinner. However, as of late, we have received several free beverage packages as a perk. If there's no freebie, then we will purchase the non- alcoholic beverage package. It works better for us with the water, smoothies and specialty coffees.

Our first cruise together we got the drinks package on the ship, and it was so wonderful and stress-free not having to take out my credit card and think about $$$ racking up. I don't think we were able to drink enough to make it worth it, but even still, we are going to get the drink package again for our Honeymoon this year.

Love this guidance, excellent. We had a drink package included in all but one cruise between Jan 2016-Feb 2020 (we were cruising 1-2x a year). We finally got back on a 4-night (our shortest ever) cruise last week, The Independence of the Seas, and did not get the drink package. The cost to have pre-cruise purchase the drink pkg, with tips, was almost $700 (we declined), our bar bill at end of cruise was $205. I like the NCL program because I can try different drinks, and not make my selections by factoring in price. But, on the other hand, I drink less without the drink pkg. First time watching one of your videos, but loved it. thanks.

I always get the drink package- and I’m not a big drinker. However I do let loose more on cruises. Aside from the alcohol, I find it worth it mostly for the premium coffee and water. Combine those things with the alcohol and the package is worth it. Even for people who don’t drink alcohol much.

Greetings Ilana! Great tip about checking to see if anything else is included in your beverage package. We were on Celebrity Edge over Christmas / New Years and had the Premium Beverage Package. We loved hanging out in the Adult Solarium where the Spa Cafe is. Yes, we found out the first day we were able to have the crafted smoothies at no additional charge. Win!

The drinks package depends on how port intense the schedule will be and how many sea day there are. We did a 12 night Med cruise without a drinks package, drank everyday, wine with supper and spent only $400. The package would have cost $1200+.

One thing to consider is if you are from another country when booking the beverage package. I bought the package when my local currency (SEK) was relatively strong vs the dollar. Since then the exchange rate has changed unfavorably for me. So even if the offer in USD for the package was the same it would still be 20% more expensive for me. So - happy to have paid everything for the upcoming cruise really early...

We purchased just the soda package for 2 adults on RC before the cruise, it was cheap! We are non alcoholic drinkers. Something we learned the first day was that you did not need to carry around the special plastic cups with the kiosk reader in the bottom if you’re going to a show or at all. If you don’t want to stand in line at the Coke machine you can literally use your soda package in / at any bar on the ship and you get a real glass. Just show them your sea pass card.

On my last cruise, I saved about $200 on RCL’s best price for their premium package by skipping the beverage package and buying a la carte. We got the refreshment package and made good use of that, but we just didn’t drink enough alcohol to warrant the price difference.

As I'm a teetotaller, and don't drink soft drink, I do love those lines that have a decent non alcoholic drinks package, which includes speciality tea (love my afternoon Earl Grey), mocktails, etc. I'd also suggest, if you are a light drinker, maybe just a glass of wine or beer at dinner, it might be worth just getting a non alcoholic package, and just buy as you drink your booze.

Trans Atlantics and Pacific, or anything with a lot of sea days, I think its worth it. We usually do this on Princess and their Princess Plus deal is pretty good. Haven’t done it on Carnival, as they tend to be more port heavy cruises, but my Wife won $3,500 on our last cruise, so I had a great drink package!

We bought the drinks package with Princess. I'm not much of a drinker and whilst we probably didn't get out money's worth, my opinion was that at least we didn't have to worry about how much we were spending on drinks! After all we're on a holiday.

Make friends with a bar tender the first night. We had one lounge we went to every night. The bartender introduced us to some new beverages, and we had so much fun!

Great point about the itinerary. For example, a 7 night cruise that has 3 stops, I definitely want a beverage package. Totally worth it.

Our past 7 cruises (and two upcoming this year) have been on Celebrity. Even though my husband isn’t much of a drinker (a mimosa, a beer, and maybe a scotch before bed), we always have the Premium package for these reasons: There is no need to stress over a bill at the end of the trip. Having morning mimosas and specialty coffees each day is wonderful! As you said, we are on vacation! I enjoy a workout most mornings in the gym, and the I head to the Spa Café in the Solarium for a detox smoothie (included). I drink wine, and the better brands are $15 and up a glass. If I drink 3 glasses a day, that adds up quickly. Water. All the water (sparkling and still) that’s included. We drink a lot of water each day. We take water off the ship for all the ports. As we disembark the ship, there’s always a team handing out water. If you have a package, take as many as you like with no worries. On Celebrity, the water is in cans. I bring empties back to the ship to be recycled. As you mentioned, we always bring water back to the room each night. I drink another glass or two before bed. For us, it’s worth the price to have an stress-free vacation. While we know that gratuities are included in drink packages, we still bring small bills ($1, $5) to pass to bartenders and baristas on the ship.

While Celebrity say that Jim Beam for example is included in the standard drinks package. Do you know if a Jim Beam and Coke would also be. Ive never been on a cruise at all, and its very hard to find these things out

Agree last cruise we didnt get the drink package and kept saying we were going to buy a drink but I knew i would get that look from the wife We are cruising on Princess on the 19th of Deb out of Galveston and got the princess plus package which includes tips and wifi After subtracting those the drink package is a bargain 3 drinks and a couple Starbucks were ahead No brainer for us Plus more fun

Just off the NCL Getaway where we purchased the basic drink package (alcohol). It used to be that you couldn't order a double or more than one drink at a time. Now you can! Well, at least I did. I was able to order two doubles - one for me and one for my hubbie.

Another great video! We have always bought the drink package after our transatlantic cruise bill in 2013 was $2300USD! Anyway...we have had the reverse happen, where we had the basic drink package (on Celebrity), and my husband had a "basic" martini a couple of nights, but we were invoiced for a premium drink ($4.95USD). So you need to make sure when you order a drink that you ASK if it is included in the package that you purchased. Happy cruising!

I know a lot of people keep saying they get the drink package just to have a less stressful vacation and honestly I was originally leaning towards getting one for that reason. But then, I started to think how I'd probably stress more if I got one because I'd be worried about whether or not I was actually getting my money's worth. My next cruise is on Celebrity and I've decided to get the zero-proof package because I know I will definitely drink enough coffee and fresh juices to make it worthwhile. I'll then see how much alcohol I actually drink and use that to inform my decision on any cruises I take after that.

Yeah, the idea of "extra stress" from small charges doesn't make sense to me, at least with the drink packages I've seen. I'm going on a cruise later this year, and the drink package is 75/day. I am not a heavy enough drinker to break even on that every day. Plus, you have to pay for EACH day of your cruise, including debarkation day when you may have 1-2 drinks with breakfast at the most (probably less if you are driving anywhere). I don't see how individual charges for cocktails throughout the day would make you _more_ stressed, when the end result is that you are spending _less_ money on your trip. But I guess everyone is a little different

Easy advice.....if you're not an alcoholic, or if you are someone capable of having a good time without getting sloshed, don't buy the alcohol drink package. You'll be forced to drink 6-7 cocktails per day, every day, condensed to the time you are actually on the ship, for it to make sense. Yet there is still an alternative......buy drinks when you want one. It's not like you have to get the package or you can't drink. The excuses I see in here are silly. "Don't want the stress". Seriously? Since when us it stressful to hand a bartender a room card?

We always buy a drink package and it is always worth it for us! Even on a cruise where we're in a port every single day, we still drink more than enough to pay for the package onboard as long as we're buying it on sale before the cruise.

Went on our first carnival cruise in December and refused to pay almost $900 for my husband & I for premium package, so we just got the non alcoholic package, had coffee & juice in the morning with our breakfast. Ordered a cocktail here and there & spent less than $100 total. Also, when you dock at the different countries & buy wine they check it when you return to the ship & will hold it until the cruise is over. These cruise lines have everything covered and there’s no bringing any type of alcohol onboard‼️

We buy the package up front (finding the best deal we can, of course) - accepting it as part of the total cruise cost, and then our vacation is all about enjoying the experience.

We did this MSC last year from Barcelona and included the easy plus package; best decision ever!!!! It was totally worth it. Right now we have 2 more cruises already booked, one this May from Miami, MSC Seascape, 7 days on the Caribbean and another one on middle November from Civitavecchia, Rome also on a MSC and in both we included the easy plus package, we did the math and in just one day of drinks consumption equals to the whole package price for the week and for the 11 days one, besides, the aperol spritz coctel is on the menu 😂

On our last cruise (Norwegian, East Carib) we found another flaw in the "drink package" scenario. The lines at the bars were seven deep all over the ship. Actually getting a drink was a half hour to 45 minute excursion. We did the math afterward and decided that even if we had had a drink at every opportunity it still didn't pay for itself.

LWC, great tips for the drink packages! We are going on a MSC cruise in May and the Easy Plus drink package came with the Aurea experience balcony room we booked. I have been researching drink type options and there are just so many different options at different bars and restaurants! I am like dang this is option overload! We took a California Costal Cruise on Discovery Princess last October. We found it easier to order two drinks at one time because the bar service was slow--they were definitely understaffed with nearly a full ship and many taking advantage of the drink packages. That and the unreliable internet were the only complaints we had--we had a wonderful time!

What I did get was the Grounds coffee package and we can share 15 specialty coffees. I'll just buy a drink if I want one probably not more than 1 a day.

With Princess, it is simply doing the math. Plus gives you tips, wifi and drinks. Subtract the basic price from the plus and it will show you the price you are paying for drinks. It usually works out to get the plus but really depends on the number of ports per cruise and how much you plan to drink.

I have figured out that we would save $230 by not buying the drink package and that is with figuring generous drinking. We'd probably be saving much more if we don't buy the package. The reason that we're keeping the drink package that I purchased for our upcoming cruise is that tips are paid upfront, I don't have to always wonder if something is included, like my seltzer/soda water, and I don't have to worry if I don't finish my drink or don't care for it and won't drink it. We are going to try drinks that we have never had before so looking at it as a drink adventure. I have a deck of cards that has different drinks on each card. We can use them to play cards as well as pull a random card out of the deck and have the bar tender make it for me. Should be fun.

On Royal Caribbean about 5 years ago , can’t remember if it was a 10 day or 12 day cruise but we paid $600 each for drinks package , we kept all receipts and counted it up and we had drunk $800 each ( drinking cocktails all day in the pools and bourbon and vodka at nights, I was shocked ,it was at this moment I realised we had a drink problem 😂 on the bright side I later found out if you took a receipt to the casino they exchanged it for $5 , so off we went with a massive stack of receipts and cashed them in and promptly lost it all on the tables , great holiday

We like cruising Holland America and doing the Have It All package. The one we did in December was 14 nights. It was $50 per person per night, which included internet, drink package, 2 each specialty dining, and $200 each towards shore excursions. Worth it for sure. Pro tip…laundry package for the 14 nights was $79 total for our cabin to have unlimited laundry done by the cruise line and returned the next day. We sent out dirty laundry every day and returned home with our bags full of clean clothes. It also limits what you need to pack since your clothes are done every day if you’d like. 👍💪🥳🎉😎

@@LifeWellCruised I am pretty sure there is. I found it under the packages section on their website for things you can order prior to the cruise, but you can also order it once onboard. It is a bit more expensive if you order after onboard, just as drink packages are. We have an 11-night Caribbean on the Rotterdam next month and we will have it on that one as well. No-brainer!

8 day cruise coming up. Got the deluxe Drink package early and it works out to $70 per day… FOR TWO! That’s a steal when drinks are $12-15 per drink. My last cruise cost me $1500 and it was 5 days. Like others have said, peace of mind for not seeing the bill at the end. Good luck and happy drinking!

Yes, always a drink package. I have calculated it in the past and 5.6 to 6.1 drinks per day were the break even points. My liver will attest that I was never in danger of loosing money on that bet :).

We always get one. Too many horror stories from friends that ended up with huge bills at the end. If you have a couple Bloodys in the morning and a couple martinis at night, you’re already at the cost per day with pkg. I’m not a heavy drinker, but on sea days I tend to have drinks throughout the day and late into the night if playing in the casino. And we use it to stock up our room with water. And even if I’m not drinking alcohol I still want to have a fun frilly drink! And Those are only a few bucks less than the “leaded” ones!

I get the drink package for free, and when I checked, It turned out It would of been cheaper for us to turn down the "free" drink package just to avoid the $460 gratuity charge on the "free" package. We didn't even drink $450 of alcohol on the cruise. The cost of the drink package was $2600, So if we had to pay for the drink package, we would of paid $3060 instead of the $400+ we did spend.

We usually get the wine packages if they are offered. It works out go about 20-25% cheaper than by the glass. I like that we could take opened bottles back to our room, or they would recork it in the Dining Room and we could finish it the next night.

We're going on our first ever cruise this October with Norweigan, and we got the Free at Sea but we also upgraded to the Free at Sea Plus, since it included more wifi for the room (3 adults) and had more speciality dining meals, which we really want to try out a bunch of the restaurants. It also came with their Premium Beverage package which we just learned now included all starbucks drinks. Which is amazing for our family.

Save money..bring your favorite coffee with u. Rooms have coffee makers. Note...I died not having good coffee. There coffee is awful...Norwegian. I finally splurged and bought good coffee...5.50 fir a small. Bring coffee! Also drink package not worth it. Unless your an alcoholic. Do you drink 15 drinks a day? Figure out how much you'd really drink. It's damn expensive each drink but may be cheaper than a package. Ideally I'd like 3 drinks a night. But I only had 1 a day. Drinks are about 15.00 plus tip without the plan. Or bring a large bottle of wine. They have nerve to charge a 15.00 cork fee. They take your bottle put your name on it. You get your wine every day at lunch or dinner. Find out how much wine you can bring. I smuggled tequila and rum in pint size cintainers.

We get the drink package just so we reduce the stress of tracking the bill. We also like to explore new drinks so if we don’t like it… no big deal we can get another. Fairly recently did we think to start bringing water back to the room at night. Wish I had learned that one much sooner. Personally I don’t get the drink package to just get plowed though I have certainly seen people do that. Good video.

Another virgin difference is that the room has the bar tab and it doesnt require both people to buy a package. So my mom doesnt drink and it means i use the $600 free bar tab myself or even use it for friends i meet on the cruise

We have never bought an alcoholic drink package on any of our cruises because we have always thought the per drink cost was way too high. And we never consume more than two alcoholic beverages per person per day anyway and certainly were not going to consume more than this when surrounded by strangers on a rolling ship. If one of us wanted a glass of wine with dinner, we could buy a single glass of wine. If one of us wanted a cocktail during one of the shows, we could buy one in the show room. Mainly we drink water, fruit juice, iced tea and coffee whether on vacation or at home. These we could get for free with our meals and there were always opportunities to get free water during the rest of the day even if we had to carry our own beverage bottle for free water refills. Our opinion was we had already paid too much for a cruise to spend most of the time drunk or hung over like frat boys on spring break. On shore days, when we went shopping in the morning for a few truly locally made souvenirs in the port, we would sometimes stop at a bar near our ship and buy/consume a local cocktail or beer just before returning to our ship. We usually returned to our ship in time to get lunch on board because we had already prepaid for that lunch when we bought the cruise. It was rare for us to buy a meal on shore unless it was something very special, such as fresh conch chowder, that we could not get onboard. Then we would drop off our shopping bags in our cabin and leave the ship again to do some local sightseeing and get in some more walking. We always returned early enough in the afternoon so we would not get caught up in that crowd of last-minute returning passengers and we would still have enough time to each take a shower and change for the early seating for dinner.

Glad someone (you) made the point about different cruises. We took a 5 day with 2 stops and had a package and got our value out of it, and our our last 7 day with 5 stops we chose to pass on it and and we saved about $300 and didn't really miss much.

I just found your channel and subscribed :) I have sailed 25 times with Princess and only recently ( 3 cruises ago) took the plunge into the drinks package, seems maybe I drink more as I get older :) I have never been forced to have a drinks package for spouse , nor would I, wifey does not drink alcohol. Princess allow me to buy 2 unopened beers at a time to take to my cabin without caring who drinks them, ( me only) but your right that it is good to get bottled water ahead and store in stateroom fridge.I calculate the drinks package at $80/day is worth it over individual purchases.

My last cruise was on Royal Caribbean and I did buy the "Drink Package." I did not think it was worth it for me due to the fact that we were in port all day. The bars on the ship did not open until 10:00am (we were long gone by then). When we got back around 5 or 6pm, you can only drink so much. If the bars opened early (like when breakfast is served) we could at least have a Mimosa or Bloody Mary to start our day. We only had one sea day and really tried to get our money worth on the "Drink Package," but we figured it would have been better just to purchase drinks separately.🍸🍹🍺🥃

I have sailed with and without the drink package. Mostly I feel that the savings is negligible. For one, I tend to drink more alcohol when I have the package. As you pointed out, if I am in port for 4 or 5 days it's definitely not worth it. Considering that buying a few bottles of water at the gangway before heading ashore is excluded. Some lines exclude their private island. They wouldn't push the packages so hard if they were losing money! I am sailing Carnival in 21 days and the emails are relentless for me to buy up and spend. I booked this cruise because it was priced very reasonable and came with $500. on board credit. Coupled with shareholder benefit and the Carnival credit card rewards, I am seeing that it will be fun spending it all!

@@shilk3681 On board credit is a money already placed on the account that you begin on the first day of your cruise (or prior) so you can sign for items instead of carrying cash or credit card. All cruise lines that I know of do it this way. Usually attached in some way to your room key or access devise. If you own 100 shares of Carnival stock, you receive credit to this account. Such as $50.00 for a six day or less cruise, $100.00 for a seven day cruise and $200.00 for a cruise of 14 days. Yes, we get the drink packages. Just did on a Viking Ocean. We like the cocktails before dinner and a wine seward at dinner. And a drink at shows. We did get our money worths.
