Note to Self :P (5 Tips by Matt): 1. Start with a Daily Log of what you need to do that day. Start Simple 2. Keep a Master Task for every single week 3. Track a personal habit that you want to see progress on or improve every single day/week/month 4. Beginner Specific: Start with Weekly Spreads first 5. Make the Bullet Journal (BuJO) yours! Keep it minimal, simplistic and structured.

I use my BuJo almost exclusively for school, and what I like to do is timebox: I have a list of specific tasks for homework assignments, I make a box of how long I think it would take me to complete it, and then color in how long it actually took. That way I become more aware of how optimistic I am or am not about alloting my time and I can plan better and more accurately :D #bulletjournalplease

I like the collaboration. My tip: Before you start a list collection, consider how, or whether, you will use the info later. Any time I start a list for its own sake, it gets abandoned as soon as I turn the page.

I don’t know if this would be classed as one tip, or multiple little ones. But my tip is: The way you work changes, you change, your ideas change, therefore your bullet journal will change too, and this is ok! #bulletjournalplease

Here is my tip: Instead of making many different lists for work tasks versus home tasks, birthdays, memories, etc... I use a different symbol and/or color so that the different tasks stand out. For example, for birthdays I use a balloon symbol, for work tasks I use a square instead of a dot. For memories I use a triangle. #bulletjournalplease

Treat it like a giant experiment. Have checkboxes at the bottom of spreads where you mark whether you'll use this spread again or not. It's a flexible system so don't get caught up in what it "should" be or why "this method" of tracking either doesn't work for you or no longer works for you. You will change and so will your needs, so let it be your sandbox for productivity.

I follow both you and Amy - my two favorites coming together is so amazing! I love a simple planner. I use a Full Focus Planner and use bullet journal as my task master. I like the FFP bc it has a lot of these things built in already - habit tracker, goals tracker, etc. but then I also enjoy the free flow of keeping my tasks in a bullet journal. I still keep it very minimal and simplistic. #bulletjournalplease

Matt, I want to thank you for encouraging me to get back to journaling. I stopped because I was going thru some emotional roller-coasters. Thank you for everything you do. I greatly appreciate you.

Tip for beginners is to use a structured journal (e.g. full focus planner) in this way you just go straight in to writing & don’t have to think about how to create your own. Once you get the feel of it, then use a blank journal and start doing it your own way. #bulletjournalplease

My bullet journal tip goes along with "make it your own." I put information that I am going to need to reference again and again, such as a phone number I don't want in my phone, a list of jobs I've done as a contractor with dates (for taxes), or other a book list for professional development. I'm not as good about micro-logging an index in the front, so that makes it easier flip through just a few pages in the back instead of the larger number and variety of pages in the front. I really appreciate the master task list because I am always hoping to get more done. I also do use Google calendar on my phone for appointments so I can get the reminders. This has become even more important while working from home during the pandemic!! I'm a fan of both you and Amy, and it's so cool to see you work on a collab! :) #bulletjournalplease

My favorite bullet journal tip is to block out a specific time during the day to journal. I schedule my day out about an hour before I start working. That gives me time to think about what’s on my plate for the day, review yesterday, look ahead to the rest of the week and review my goals. I do this EVERY morning at the same time. On days where I have a lot to do, I schedule in a second check in after lunch to make sure my priorities haven’t changed, or to adjust to how quickly or slowly my work is progressing. Some things just don’t take as long as I think they will or maybe I grossly underestimated how much time I would need. Rather than chalk the day up to a fail, I adjust. Then I don’t feel like a slacker or rush through my work to get it all done.

Thanks for your video!, great tips!. One of the ways I use my "squares journal", is writing in black what is pending for that day, and right underneath, in blue, what happened that day. In this way, I can keep a diary for memories, or in case of need, to find some past information. #bulletjournalplease

#bulletjournalplease My top bujo tip (mostly for myself) is to keep it simple to avoid the overwhelm. When i first discovered this method years ago i bought fancy pens, stickers, paper clips, stamps etc and got discouraged when i remembered I'm no artist. I lost sight of all the ways my bujo can help me because i was obsessed with making it post worthy. Keeping it simple allows me to actually use it to be more productive and proactive in my life. I also have an addiction to notebooks😁

Thank you for all these lovely tips! I'm new to bullet journaling and my layout is quite simple. My top tip is to journal the night before and write in what you are grateful for, what you have accomplished, and what you look forward to. These three sections motivate me each new day to be thoughtful about my emotions and actions throughout the day. #bulletjournalplease

I've watched Amy for a long time and I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. I'm on my 4th bullet journal. I don't do weekly or monthly spreads but rather, just dedicate a page a day to my tasks. I have several categories I divide them into - Health, Home, Work, Self Care. I include dinner plans and a place for a daily gratitude at the bottom. #bulletjournalplease

Hello Matt and everybody in the community! I’m So glad I found your channel. I come from Amy Landino’s community. I don’t miss any of her videos. I started my first BuJo in Jan 2018 and it was great for a while but I found it hard to be consistent because of my own perfectionism (not proud of). What resonated more to me in this video was that it doesn’t have to look pretty because it is only for me. I’m currently using the Day Designer planner and it really helps me to keep track of dates and appointments or anything that has a set time. The weekly spread is really simple and neat, but there is no place for me to write down any brain dump or tracking. So For now I just grabbed a notebook I started this year and this will be my BJ until I can get a new one #lockdown . Thank you so much for all your videos. They are really helpful 😊

Great tips! My favorite tip is #5: make it yours. I was initially attracted to bullet journaling because the journal is completely flexible. I can finally have a planner that fits my unique needs, with no random pre-printed pages that never get used. And I can change my bujo as my needs change. Another tip: think outside the box. I play D&D and figured out a spell cheat sheet layout that is super helpful in combat situations. A bujo can be used for all sorts of purposes beyond just planning and goal tracking. #bulletjournalplease

My favorite bullet journal tip is to allow yourself freedom to use it as you need. What I mean by that is that it may change month to month or by seasons. You may start the year tracking water but fall off or decide to stop and at the same time decide to take periodic notes or whatever it is. It does not have to be consistent, it does have to be useful and helpful. Plus it is fun to see how your journal changes over time. #bulletjournalplease

I definitely think that the habit tracker is something that is super important for the bullet journal that is really a game changer. I used the habit tracker last year for several months and then I stopped, thinking that now that I had the habits developed, but soon after I once again stopped using habits I had spent months developing. I finally restarted using the habit tracker at the start of the summer and I am amazed at the difference. Thanks for the tips! #bulletjournalplease

I've watched both you and Amy for a couple years. I started bullet journaling in 2018. Originally it was too artsy and time consuming, but when I went more minimal, it became more useful. My tip is to color-code your notes. In mine, for example, all personal tasks and appointments are purple, all health & fitness are red, business is green, family/friends/home is blue, and volunteer/church/community is black. It adds a touch of color, but more so it let's me quickly see when my life is or isn't in balance, and let's me find notes much faster. #bulletjournalplease

#bulletjournalplease My favorite tip is making bullet journal mine. There is a lot of pressure when you search Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook for bujo aesthetic. I may add color depending on how I feel but mostly simply jotting things down is my forte. Knowing that that's just fine is refreshing. Thanks for the videos, Matt and Amy.

#bulletjournalplease I think my biggest "a-ha" moment for journalling was discovering the rolling weekly spread and creating "sections" for weekly habits, goals, and notes. Just saw Amy's video so have come over here from her channel. I've never used bullet journaling but I'm keen to start. I really like Amy's calendar blocking which I now use which is awesome. Hopefully I can get some great tips from your channel on bullet journaling. # bulletjournalplease My favourite tip has to be a tie between habit tracker and weekly spread. Because I'm just starting with bullet journaling I think by following your tip of focusing on one habit to track to start with and to focus on a simple weekly spread I will get some quick and easy wins which will help me to stick with it. Now to go find an old journal to use to give this a go!

Thank you for great productivity videos. Thank you also for the #bulletjournalplease giveaway. My best bullet journal tip is to keep using identical spreads each week as long as they work for you. The best bullet journal tip that I have received is the rolling weekly method. From what I have heard, it's based on the allistair method. Basically you have a running task list for the week in one column, and next to it you have a column for each day of the week. Then you put a dot next to the day you need to do that task. It saves you from rewriting anything. #BulletJournalPlease !

Journaling has gotten me through some really rough parts in my life. It has also helped me maintain a 4.0 gpa at school. My number one tip to anyone who is starting or currently journaling is to change up your system when you get in a rut. Great video and colaboration of you two!! I've been watching you both quite a couple years and thank you so much for all the content and great information about bujos. My personal tip for increase productivity is to create your personalized categories in your Bullet Journal Keys; for example with this quarantine my wife and I had to be on track with our 4 years old school virtual activities, my son's name is Felipe, so I created a key similar to a copyright symbol with the letter F in it... in this way is so much quicker for me to find in my bujo all the things related to my boy. Thanks again, my best regards for you two!! #bulletjournalplease

Happy to see you for the first time. Glad y'all are doing this. Your tip on going one week at a time is CHOICE. Too many times I got ahead of myself and wasted pages on weeks that have no notes. #bulletjournalplease

My tip would be to leave some extra space in your weekly spreads to write about that day at the end of each day. This is a little bit like maintaining a journal, but in its most basic form. That way when you flip through your bullet journal at the end of the month or the year, you can use it as a place for quick reflection. I recently started bullet journaling on a trial basis on an extra composition notebook I had laying around (and I am loving it), and I have found I really enjoy doing this everyday. Hope this tip helps someone else! #bulletjournalplease

Thank you, Matt. It's the first video of yours I've watched so far, and I liked it. I'll definitely watch some others. Regarding bullet journal tips, I don't have any yet because I've never had a bullet journal, though I use some bujo methods just in a regular notebook. I would love to have a #bulletjournalplease

"Keep a Master Task List for every single week" Why had I never thought of that? My one tip is to have a Gratitude Log and look it over every day, even when you do nothing else with your Bullet Journal. #BulletJournalPlease

The one that I like is that the bullet journal is for you and for no one else. Mine is practical and minimalist because I think that when you spent a lot of time making it so artistic then comes the lack of using it as a journal where you are going to dump your thoughts. #BulletJournalPlease

Loved this collaboration! Ive followed both channels for a while now and these videos couldn't have come at a better time. You're right when you say just start small and simple. The times I've failed to keep my journal was mostly due to a) pressure to keep these ellaborate spreads that took me forever to set up and then b) made me feel guilty when I wouldn't fill them up or fill them up in what would be considered an unpretty way. Only when I figured out that I actually need my bullet journal to work for me first and then if I can make it look visually appealing that's a bonus. So that's my top tip. Too bad that now I enjoy having a minimal journal so much I don't even bother with doodles, stickers, colours and all that jazz. A black pen and eventually a ruler is all I need. I've always wanted to try a BaronFig notebook so... fingers crossed! #bulletjournalplease

I am excited to start doing this! I love my daily, weekly, monthly planner (even during 2020 😐), but a Bujo sounds more fun! Love your tips, thank you! Top Tip: Make it yours- use it however it works for you and start small and simple if that works best for you. I look forward to watching more of your videos 😊#bulletjournalplease

What I found starting off was just using what works (simple cheap notebook, ruler, pencil and pen). That and using what symbols I use out of habit already and expanding on it. Just started doing journaling for about 2 months now and it's a lifesaver that I found Matt's channel. I recently got positioned do a lot of event management and the amount of moving parts to keep track of is a big headache. #BulletJournalPlease

Great tips! Just officially started bullet journaling this year. It was hard for me to be consistent and these tips definitely helped a lot for me to create a journal that actually works. Especially the habit tracker which will definitely help me review my goals. Thank you. Also, because of the pandemic, I didn't get the chance to find a good dotted notebook so I ended up using a blank page notebook. Winning this would save me from the trouble of counting each space. #bulletjournalplease

The best tip is definitely number 5: your bullet journal is for you! I do adore the master task list and that is a part I use a lot!. The KISS-method (keep it simple stupid) certainly applies to bullet journaling 😅 I do more minimalistic spreads, but they also work better for me #bulletjournalplease

My favorite tip is definitely to keep it simple! I don't even draw lines because I found it would look messy if I made a mistake. The fewer opportunities for pen mistakes, the easier to use. #bulletjournalplease

What a great video! So much good stuff. ❤️ My top bullet journal tip: to have no judgement. To know it doesn't have to be perfect and to have the opportunity to just pick up where I left off and keep taking action steps to move forward without judgement of how I could have made my bujo more "perfect" #bulletjournalplease

I love the minimal bujo designs. I do go out of my comfort zone and try some artistic changes. I do love that it is so customizable to each need you have at that time in life. Tracking my son's conditions is vital to his progress and therapy. Love her page, thanks for the linkup. #bulletjournalplease

My best tip (other than make it work for YOU) is to start small. I started with a Field Note, then moved to small Moleskine. I like the feel of something that will fit in my pocket or in the pocket of my backpack. #bulletjournalplease Thanks, Matt! Love the channel!

My top bullet journal tip is: Don’t be afraid to change it up! I’ve found my needs have changed (sometimes quite drastically) and stuff that works one month might not work the next month. It can look a bit of a mess, but my journal is constantly evolving to fit my needs in the moment. #BulletJournalPlease

My favorite tip is to binge watch your BJ videos. 😀Seriously, though I found you at the beginning of the year when I started using my BJ and your videos have been incredibly helpful. The biggest tip I've learned is to not try to trying to chunk out sections of my journal (kind of like your tip about not writing out a whole month). What I found was as I tried to estimate how many pages I needed for a section (e.g. for coaching notes), I was invariably short. I'm now putting notes in at the end of each week and using the index a lot more. Saves from waste which is it's own stressor! #bulletjournalplease
