@@hotelhopper681 Concept cars are just that. Concepts. Not final or even pre production cars. They are there to push the limits of cars and to just even see if an element would work on a car. They are not there to say, this is what we want next years model to look like. its to say this is what we envision our car will look like in the future
@hotelhopper681
@hotelhopper681 Жыл бұрын
@@SexyEarHair actually, they're not just concepts and as stated are advertisements for either a car or the future of the company. In the end, it IS for attention and sales. The future of the company concepts are absolutely fine... as long as labelled as such. But in the case of the 2018 Navigator, the concept was an advertisement 100%, no questions asked. And it failed on 2 very doable, very important accounts- the steps and the doors. The doors, one would argue, WERE the entire concept for the vehicle. They then sold the same sort of SUV that was standard for like 7+ years at the time The movie business just got dinged for 'Yesterday' and has a class action suit coming up because things (and an actress) in the theatrical trailer were not in the movie. The trailer designed to garner attention, like the concept cars. The industry tried to argue creative expression and freedom for the trailers, arguing it's non-commercial speech (not an ad). The law disagrees, it IS commercial speech (the end purpose is getting attention for marketing) and should be regulated as such. I am on that same page for concepts for actual production vehicles, NOT the obviously future forward concepts.

Just pure design and inspiration, to begin to feel out where to go, with future design of the stuff that _is_ intended to be made for people to actually use and appreciate in regular life.

The extrude honing process is typically a total waste of money, it typically won't even get any power increase on the dyno. Porting is not about making everything bigger, intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds are not a significant restriction on flow, all the magic happens within 1 inch of the valve. Extrude honing is what ignorant people do to show other ignorant people that don't know anything about engines that they are winning the pissing contest.

so back in the 60's smokey yunick the legendary racecar builder " ported " manifolds and cylinder heads by pumping an abrasive slurry through them with a pump. this left a cast looking finish but actually increased the airflow of the engine. at the time nascar didn't allow porting of heads so the slurry method looked stock instead of obviously polished. looks like those guys with the abrasive silicone are doing the same thing 60 years later.

What’s also interesting is that some concept cars would actually predict what cars would mostly look like in the near future such as with the 1981 Ford Probe concept car defining the baseline common design principles of production cars released in the very late 1980s and throughout the 1990s! I also believe some concept cars were also eventually released to the public as production cars but the production models would have a number of changes made to them compared to the original concepts such as the model names! :)

The point of a concept car is to push the industry forward, not to make the trade press cream their pants. When did it all go so wrong?

I'm surprised Humanetics hasn't been sued by their customers for sending out invalid test reports from the Farmington Hills Dummy Lab. The Dummy Lab's power isn't isolated from the rest of the building, which causes dirty power to affect the test results. All the Test Fixtures are lined up along the South Wall, which is not insulated. This means that in the Winter, that side of the room is below the temperature range for the tests and in the Summer it's above the temperature range. The Temperature and Humidity Data Logger that generates the information onto each Test Report is about 30 Feet from the South Wall, which means that the Temperature that is being recorded could actually be 3 to 4 degrees off depending on the season.

@@mbsnyderc I'm afraid if you want to hot rod an EV you do need a good grasp on programming, but the principle is just the same as with internal combustion. You take a vehicle designed to run reliably for 100000 miles +, and you turn everything up as far as you dare and hope it doesn’t break. There’s still plenty of scope for mechanical modifications mainly relating to heat management and upgrading specific power circuits. If you’re happy to risk something melting, you can get an ungodly amount of power from even an ordinary EV!

@@mbsnyderc I know in the Volt you can mess with the torque management to bump it up a bit. I believe with HP Tuners.

@@caddyguy5369 The Volt is not an EV it's a hybrid,and if there getting more power out of it it might be the gas engine.
