We don't really know the side effects of a pole shift. We can guess, but there is no way to be certain that the magnetic field would even decrease before the switch. Your description of a pole shift would cause a geologically and paleontologically detectable changes. This includes extinctions from the abrupt shift of the crust by 90 degrees, around 2,000 miles. There would be massive floods and entire coastal regions wiped out. As a note, we found evidence of the pole sifts, but no evidence of massive coastal extinctions to go with it.

Plus his last statement, "the entire process reverses leaving no trace," makes no sense. From what he says, there would be entire forests blown down and massive flooding on the mountains.
