The Whistling Apparently there was a lot of child human traffiking at the time and the children at night would whistle. So the superstition was made so that the children would stop whistling at night while going home so that they wouldn't get kidnapped.

I am currently stationed in Korea. I was talking the other day to some of the Korean people at my work about how some people in the U.S. think horseshoes are lucky but you have to place them with the opening facing up or you will pour all of the luck out of the horseshoe. After explaining the metal thing is a horseshoe they got a pretty good laugh at our silly superstitions. Nice to hear some of Korea's superstitions too.

For Chinese people about the nail clipping, if the nails are toss all over, the ghost might trace you because of your scattered nails. Also, don't cut your nails after 7pm, idk why, the adults just told me it's not good, either you will have bad luck or ghosty stuff happen. Also, the shaking leg thing is also a superstitious thingy among Asia 😂

Amanda Toong Russia also has the superstition to not cut nails at night. It's said if you cut your nails at night you're cutting away your life. Scientifically speaking this superstition exists because back then people didn't have good light sources at night while cutting nails and they would often cut themselves risking infection and dying.

When I was in Korea a few years ago a woman was selling fruit in a stall. I saw her every day. She and her stall were beautiful to me and I wanted to remember her because she had been so kind to me. I believe that "Fan" Superstition came from crude quality of electronics that were affordable to lower class families after the Korean war (which was majority of the population at that time), and lack of knowledge about electronic safety. If the motor catches on fire caused by a short circuit or overheat in a tiny room that has no ventilation while your sleeping, well, it is very likely that your gonna inhale some carbon monoxide. Which can be fatal.
@GoBillyKorean
@GoBillyKorean 6 жыл бұрын
I thought about that, but the reasons they list weren't due to any smoke. It was solely due to a fan being used in a small enclosed space. Koreans also know that a lot of smoke can kill someone in a small room with no ventilation.

About the butterflies cause blindess, here in the Philippines, some people believe that if you see big butterflies flying above you, you should close your eyes or look down, or else you will go blind. One scientific reason is that there are some species of butterflies that emits substances while flapping their wings that is irritating to the eyes that may cause blindness. 😉

In standard Mandarin, 四 and 死 are pronounced "si". Pinyin doesn't convey it well, but it sounds kind of like a more gutteral sound of the "si" in "sick". Try saying it in a Stewie voice from Family Guy, that should do the trick! Hate to be the "Well, actually" guy, but just so people know!

Very interesting, the full moon is a very good occurrence for us, and the festivals with agricultural significance (Passover and Sukkot) occur on full moon. 4 for us is the physical dimension, and I suppose, the physical dimension also contains death, I suppose.
