A further example of episodes being edited to to terrorism, was a removed part of dialog in The Pyramid at the End of the World, which iirc was only briefly available in the Amazon version of the episode. Another cut scene we only know about due to the Series 8 leaked screeners, was Rusty self destructing at the end of Into the Dalek.

The recent change to Davros bothered me a bit early on, but doesn't now that I know about the unfilmed scenes mentioned in the video. The core issue with standing-up Davros is that it was implied in the old story that he recovered his wrecked body into the life support/mobility chair, _then_ experimented to find out what the Kaleds were mutating into, _then_ adapted his existing mobility device into the foundation for the Dalek shells. These new scenes establish that he'd been examining Kaled mutations far earlier than "Genesis of the Daleks" explained, and might very well have developed his chair from existing Dalek shell prototypes. The Doctor's (and other Time Lords') intrusions into the timeline changed Davros' life. It's just that he was always an evil little psychopath in his scientific career. Too bad we didn't actually get to see these scenes. From what we saw in "Desination: Skaro" it just seemed to be a retcon without a reason, precisely because it didn't explain its contradiction of "Genesis of the Daleks." Turns out they had an explanation, but it was cut for budgetary reasons.

All well and good but it doesn't change RTDs obnoxious reasoning behind making the change.

I just want to know how, in the altered timeline, Sir Isaac Newton managed to convince the entire world, speaking so many different languages, to completely forget the ancient Latin word _gravis,_ for "heavy," and instead trade it out for a new word that only existed in Newton's own writings in English. The Doctor's accident was millennia too late to have the effect it's had in his universe. I can only assume that Davies didn't bother to think back further than Modern period British history.
@judithstrachan939911 күн бұрын
I commented on the original story that both words, gravitas & gravity, had already been in use for hundred(s?) of years by Newton’s time. I don’t think Russell cares.

@TheVicarstownSentinel11 күн бұрын
Cool as seeing Davros' accident on screen would be, I'm glad we got it instead in the form of the I, Davros audios by Big Finish. That said I still feel that RTD is trying to fix a non-issue w his current Davros; the man was already evil before he was disabled. But I have a theory. 14's comment about the timelines and canon rupturing could be true after all. Neo Davros could be from a timeline in which Davros heeded his cohorts' radio earnings about the oncoming missile and escaped his lab before the impact. A timeline split in which an intact Davros continues his work on the Daleks.
@joshuacurphey324210 күн бұрын
I have quite an alternative option; speaking of Big Finish, one of their other stories with Davros was Terror Firma (released 2005, just a year before I, Davros was) where he essentially turned Earth into a Dalek breeding farm. The Doctor also found that Davros had created a clone of his body to escape the confinements of his chair as he said it. I think that Davies might pinch that idea if he wants Davros back, but I don't think that's a good idea as it's been pointed out that not making him disabled is ableist. I've heard people think that Davros is a good representation of a disability as he has not let his limits get the better of him. He has even become one of the Doctor's biggest enemies.
@Mark-nh2hs10 күн бұрын
Yet he's happy to have mobility aids have weapons of death and violence employed and have a character who is playing a 13 year old shooting away - that's fine and dandy but Davros is a big Hell No?? Also RTD banging on about racism etc etc yet the the finale the two people to die first were both non Caucasian - ahhh yes the age old trope still alive and well 😂

This is really interesting! I think overall doctor who treads the line of what's suitable for viewing quite well. I must admit I've never been able to rewatch The Waters of Mars! 😂 I think one other scene I've always been slightly wary of is the part in The Doctor's Wife where the entity house takes control of the tardis and shows amy an older version of rory who tells her she left him alone and that he hates her, then when she goes through another door house makes her think rory's died. Admittedly these scenes are very powerful and add to the episode, but I do find them difficult to rewatch. But maybe that's just me. Thanks Ellie and Who Culture! 😊😊

It was a trend or something for US editing to take a completely different turn from the UK originals. Decades ago in the 60s, US Beatles albums were different from the UK versions. In that case, Capital Records was just out out to get as much money out of the band's fame as they possibly could. Leave well enough alone should be the order of the day. Cheers....

To this day the similarities between The Flood in the Waters of Mars and The Flood from Halo always strikes me as insanely wild. Both are parasitic organisms that can infect a host with a single spec of their being, and both have insanely fast transformation times and grant their hosts unnatural strength, stamina and resilience, as well as mutating the host into zombie-like beings with deformed bodies. The Flood in both Doctor Who and Halo are terrifying foes. I do wonder if now we might see them potentially return in RTD2, and if they do, if they might have that scarier design they initially had.
