Do This After Diving ▶️ • The RIGHT Way to Clean...
---
What should I avoid doing after diving? Here are 10 potentially dangerous or deadly activities divers should NEVER do after diving, such as flying, known to cause decompression sickness (DCS) due to pressure changes. Discover why activities at high altitudes, including mountain climbing, ziplining, parasailing, and skiing, carry similar risks of getting the bends. Gain insights into less-known hazards, like deep tissue massages, hot showers, and hot tubs, that could speed up nitrogen off-gassing and lead to DCS (the bends). Understand why drinking after diving, due to its dehydrating effect, is another DCS risk. Learn about the dangers of freediving after scuba diving, where rapid compression and ascent can increase the chances of DCS. Recognize the importance of avoiding strenuous exercise, honoring surface intervals, and paying close attention to your body and symptoms after diving. Equip yourself with the knowledge needed to identify potential signs of DCS and understand why unusual symptoms should never be overlooked.

The last suggestion is smart. I just finished 3 days of diving with a group, 2 dives each day. 18 meters max, 30-35 min. I started to get sluggish and short of breath on day 3, and just brushed it off as fatigue. End of day 3 second dive, I’ve got a headache and getting nauseous. Hip pains. Out of shape and cold because of water temp? Hip flexors burning because 6 dives in 72 hours in current? Maybe shouldn’t have hard oatmeal and eggs 60-90 minutes before getting into the water? Of course at the end of the dive, I felt like something was off. I’m still a newbie so I said nothing. I’m back at the hotel, (solo) and start reading about dcs and the symptom types and intervals. Iareas of going to the hospital just in case, I found a hyperbaric chamber and made an appt. 2 sessions in 1 day and I feel normal again. Dcs? Fatigue? I’m not sure, but I do know I didn’t want to do that last dive. And I bet had I sucked kn some o2 right away I prob could have nipped it in the bud. Lesson learnt!

I actually went over this with DAN recently. DAN US's guidance is still 24 hours. DAN South Africa's guidance, which isn't burdened with US liability concerns is 4-6 hours. And let's be honest if you listened to DAN US full time professional divers would never be able to exercise, except on a day off. Yet many professional divers do work out, Edd Sorrenson is well known for being ripped and having a gym in his classroom at CA. And Edd is diving not just almost every day but a vast majority of it involves decompression.

Agreed on the exercising. It’s something you should do, but the recommendations are there. It’s always interesting with this kinda stuff imo.

Wieso steht da "tödlich" im Titel? Ich hatte eine Massage nach dem Tauchen und was danach sehr müde und bekam Gelengschmerzen. Jetzt weiss ich, ich werde es bestimmt nicht mehr tun. Danke.
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba 10 ай бұрын
That's in the title because doing these things after diving are potentially deadly. It's kind of like anything else with diving when there's a risk. If you ascend from 18 meters too quickly, you may get the bends. The bends is potentially deadly, but people can be treated. A massage is something you have to be careful with immediately after diving, like I say in the video, because it can release gas in the tissues faster than normal which can lead to the bends (decompression sickness).

Good advice, one question you just finished your dive exited onto the boat that's setting in the hot sun ,how do you compensate for temperature and degasing ??
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba 10 ай бұрын
Honestly just stay hydrated, get out of the wetsuit/drysuit, try to find shade. That’s all fine. You’d be sweating to maintain body temperature, where immersing in a hot shower or hot tub doesn’t necessarily allow for that same regulation.

Eh, I’ve heard 1000 feet, but in general I wouldn’t go hiking is kind of the main point, or driving over a mountain pass
@DaveStern2
@DaveStern2 5 ай бұрын
great video, thanks! do you happen to know why the recommendation on elevation change (>1,000 feet) isn't the same as no fly time? Commercial flights are pressurized to an equivalent of 6,000 feet altitude. So if I hike to +1,400 feet altitude, that seems to be less change than a flight, yet the recommendation is 24 hrs for a hike like that, vs. potentially 12h or 18h for no fly. Any ideas why?
@CircleHScuba
@CircleHScuba 5 ай бұрын
This is a great question. I don’t know why the recommendations are as they are. Maybe a blanket rule in case people are hiking in higher altitudes versus gating rules based on altitude that you’d have to look up separately? 😬 I’m not sure though, really good question

@@CircleHScuba thanks. going diving in Costa Rica! Then on a hike, but dive is in morning (2 dives) and hike to 1,400' is next day. will see what the no fly time on my computer (garmin) tells me! so I'll have 20 hours after dive before we get in the car to drive and won't be after multiple days of diving so feel like I should be pretty close to guideline (if not exactly within). but, everyone's different so we'll see how it goes. agree with the comments to listen to your body.

The number one thing that you need to remember when going scuba diving is to always plan a one day in advance hotel room and airplane flight because you do not want to be immediately going on an airplane after scuba diving because the nitrogen in your lungs\body to prevent the bends or you might also get decompression sickness or even die so always remember that😊 so you don't die.

Another way of testing myself and ability, like rate of ascending, ditching weight belts, cave diving as well as not using a bc. I have saved lives 4 times and many times I've limited dive partners equipment and diving experience based on their ability until I've evaluated their ability to process the total experience. Everyone has a different ability to process something new and I think they should be safe as well as have fun

@besearchingforwisdom6267 I hear you on pushing yourself but some things are anatomical and physics based, not really a personal limit but a human anatomy limit 😅 Just be safe! That said, I know DAN does a number of studies on divers on a volunteer basis for their research on DCS and such, you should see if you can help! They asked for volunteers a couple months ago for a new study, and afaik it’s all safe they just want to look at bubbles and stuff after diving

I wonder if diving computers will start telling us, how many hours we shouldn't exert ourselves. Like flashing 4 hours, no excursion, 4 hours no exercise no sex. 4 hours defend yourself with a gun, no punching no stabbing. And I wonder if games like Subnautica will take account of these real diving issues, like in a mod or a hard mode.

@@CircleHScuba If you made a video about The Bends, I couldn't find it. In the KZfaq search bar, I put Symptoms of the bends, and now I'm watching the science of Decompression Sickness from Waterline Academy. Next is that science experiment of a vile of blood in a pressure chamber. And other videos about how exactly this works. Then how to choose a diving-computer & mask. And I'm curious, what do you think of the game Subnautica? It's available on Steam, and there are videos & Let's-Plays about it. That game, and me considering living on a houseboat and hunting food with a harpoon-gun, is what got me into diving. Even not hunting, the ocean is so beautiful, and I want to get over my fear of the abyss of deep water, and swimming at night.
