Never declutter pets. They are yours and they depend on you

Right now I don’t know that I can say anything isn’t my favorite but I’ve hit a place where I am so sick of all of this stuff! Today I declutterred the food in my fridge. I know that sounds weird but it didn’t even hurt to throw the not so tasty condiments out. I’ve also been donating the clothing items I don’t love. Doesn’t matter if it’s still in good shape. If the answer to “would I buy this again today” is “no”- it goes!

Great tip starting with least cared about things! I’m tackling overfilled garage due to downsizing our house. I find that if I haven’t looked for those items, they are not that important and it somehow makes it easier to let go. ( By the way, I sobbed when I had to let go of baby clothes, kept two bags worth still but got rid of huge containers)

I am currently trying to go thru stuff, but gradually. Today my husband brought home a bunch of boxes that we had in storage. So, a lot more stuff to go through.

The most important thing is to stop the "bleeding ". Stop shopping. A huge shock for me was when I pulled out of the bathroom and wherever else I had them, makeup, skin care, personal hygiene products etc and put them together by type. I was shocked SEEING the amount of stuff I had from each category, cried realizing how much money I wasted, threw out the expired stuff, donated whatever I admitted that I couldn't even use within 3 years at a minimum.... I stopped shopping doubles, I only shop when I run really low on something, to replace that something. And the declutterring is happening in waves. I do a pass and after a few months I do another pass, it's amazing how much my perspective changes and how now I realize that I'm holding on to things that I'm not even using. What helped me to shift my mentality was thinking that if I dropped dead today, my daughter would have to deal with all the decisions that I refused to make, or a probate judge will make decisions for me. It's hard to not get something just because you like looking at it, but I also got myself in debt by doing that. I now don't use credit cards anymore, it's a sobering experience to see the money leave your wallet instead of swiping the card like the money is free

Yes! Our kids should be part of our why we declutter, not why we don't. It's so good for them!

😊 I like your idea of doing one small area or one box or one drawer if you have an overwhelming, cluttered space. Thank you for your tips. I enjoy watching your videos.

Polish pottery is my favorite, I don't use it all often but I like it a lot. I did sell some during covid, it was hard at the time but now I don't miss it.

I am close to having my home all decluttered, but I feel a bit overwhelmed with my busy life, email inbox, and My Drive, haha. Can you do a video on decluttering your life and technology?

Some things that I have implemented: keep apps and social media accounts to a minimum. Unsubcribe to email links/businesses. Try to only handle mail once, when you get the mail, shred/throw away junk, file anything that has a permanent place, put a stamp on bills or a reminder on your phone when it needs to be paid- if it's not automatic. Listen to a book or podcast during your drive. Stay off electronic devices an hour before bed. After dinner, set the table for breakfast (or have kids do) choose clothes for the next day before bed.

Love and appreciate your channel! It has been one of my main resources while my husband and I simplify our home; we are seeing such big differences in use of little time used cleaning and more enjoyment of the home we work hard for. Thank you for being part of our journey!

I know that your channel isn't about this.....but, I love how you style your hair. My hair is baby fine. Just had it cut into a bob hairstyle. I would like to curl it in the style that you have. What's your secrets? Lol!!

My hair is super fine, too!!!! Oh I bet the new hair looks so cute on you! Okay my secret is leaving the ends out when I curl!!! Makes a HUGE difference!!! Also I know it’s bad for you, but I also back comb just a bit! Hope that helps!

My hair was thinning a lot after having covid, I started using Routine shampoo and conditioner. I have used it for over 2 yrs and my hair loss is very minimal and my hair is definitely thicker. You can often find a 10% off oupon online. I have mid back length hair and it lasts 3 months. Shampoo and conditioner set is $49.99. Highly recommend.

I used the Kon Marie method when I knew I would be downsizing. I moved from my house of 37 years to a condo. I spent a good year decluttering prior to the move. Now I am just maintaining . I’d like to hear how other people are maintaining . I shop only when I need something specific, I try to declutter so many items per week, any other ideas?
@FancyThatwithCandice

I do a 21 item toss at the end of each month or a fill a trash bag challenge. I also try and ONLY shop for things I need! Makes a huge difference!

Things that have helped me: Tell friends and family your desire to live a simplified life. Rather than a tangible gift, suggest doing something together, such as a day trip, concert, potluck meal together, volunteer together or a service such as house cleaning or yard work. Offer the same as gifts for others. I like to start at the entryway and pretend you are going to a house showing. Does anything look cluttered or could be changed/tidied to be more put together. Ask yourself if you have used/worn something in the past 6 months/year if not, you aren't likely to use ever use/wear it, so donate it.

You mentioned your dad and husband both leaving stuff on the floor, seems kind of lazy or at least not caring, not much to do with decluttering, but besides that great video, to the point, honest and helpful.

Too much stuff leads to overwhelm and giving up on cleaning… at least in my experience. Feeling like you are in control of your stuff, and not the other way around, can make tidying much easier!
