The worst thing about the Twilight Zone accident was it didn't have to happen. John Landis is solely responsible for the deaths of Vic Morrow and the kids he paid under the table to work overnight. The bastard should have gone to prison for that.

There is no criminal charge for hiring practices unless you’re referring to violations of child labor laws. The Twilight Zone accident was worse than portrayed here. Vic Morrow had expressed concerns about the pyrotechnics being so close to them, and the helicopter pilot had complained in the rehearsal that the explosions were sending debris up towards the rotas, which was incredibly dangerous. They were assured these issues would be addressed, but they were not. The pyrotechnics caused the helicopter crash, which decapitated Vic and one child, the other child was crushed under the helicopter. Oh, and if that's not bad enough, the director broke regulations, those children should not have been there. They were not actors, they were children of film crew.

The death of Brandon Lee while filming on The Crow still haunts me to this day. I remembered I was 14 when I heard the news of Brandon Lee's death on the set of the Crow and it really sadden me. Fascinating Horrors has an excellent and very respectful piece on the Twilight Zone tragedy. It was completely preventable. The children weren’t actors, but their parents worked on the set. They were told there would be no danger to their kids. Director John Landis was never convicted of anything (some of what he did was illegal, like having the kids work at night). Steven Spielberg refused to speak with Landis after this.

The saddest thing about this stuff is the fact that most of the accidents were caused by crew and producers etc… who would not take the proper steps and time to make sure everything was done the safe and proper way plus that woman who was a “gun expert” for Rust she was like 25, and only been using guns for two years they could’ve and should’ve gotten somebody with more experience
@huchlvr
@huchlvr Жыл бұрын
That's mainly why Alec was charged. He was the main producer of the movie and it was his responsibility to 1) make sure they had experienced personnel; 2) check the gun himself. Watch Jensen Ackles interview and you'll understand how inexperienced the armor was and how safety was lax at times. The reason for the live rounds on set is that the armorer would go off with friends at night and shoot in the hills with the rounds. Totally illegal.

What sucks about the film industry is that the accidents that get the most press are the ones that involve the actors. If the accident only involves crew members (or even stunt doubles), not as many people seem to care. I'm learning about most of these accidents for the first time through this video, since a lot of them don't directly involve the on-screen celebrities.

It was a nice way of saying how the Twilight Zone's deaths occurred, "the helicopter landed on them" (11:45). It was actually the copter blade that chopped them to pieces. A slo-mo version of the video here on YT shows the actor's head & shoulders go flying off his corpse.

Only one of the children was decapitated, although the other child's death was just as horrifying. The younger of the two, 6 year old Renee Shin-Yi Chen, was crushed to death under one of the skids of the helicopter after Vic Morrow accidentally dropped her in the water. He'd been carrying both children and it was reported that he was reaching out to pick her up when he and the other child, 7 year old Myca Dinh Le, were decapitated by the helicopter's main rotor blades. Those children shouldn't have even been on that set in the first place but noone was held criminally responsible for their deaths or the death of Vic Morrow. (Acquitted at trial).

One that is never talked about is Sonja Davis. She was a stunt double for Angela Bassett for the movie Vampire In Brooklyn. She was supposed to fall off of the side building but the blow up device dhe was supposed to land on did not accommodate her weight with the fall and thete us under the table stuff done to get it cleared so it was not safe. She died later thst day from her injuries.

New book about The Twilight Zone disaster called FLY BY NIGHT. Although two other books were published about it years ago, this one has a lot of revelations that weren't available to the public back then. Beware though: the book includes graphic photos of the bodies of Vic Morrow and the children after their deaths.

If safety measures for firearms on movie sets aren’t taken seriously in the future, we’ll have more people like Alex Baldwin and Brandon Lee being affected by it

I know that after the incident with Rust, a few (if not many) TV productions stopped the use of live ammo of any kind. Even blanks. Muzzle flashes are digitized instead of being produced by blanks.

Stunts are horrific work, and really don't pay that much, if you equate the danger and death to the amount paid. But some people love to risk it all, and play on the edge.

Alec Baldwin was not handling a prop gun he was handling a real gun being used as a prop. In this day and age that is totally unacceptable.

When a movie has budget issues, the stunts are the last place that should be cut, if at all.

To think that Sergio Leone's career could have been brought also to a scretching halt and in tragedy for all the occasiones in which he put the life of actors, notably Elli Wallach, at mortal risk. For example in TGTBTU when he is almost decepitated by a train platform passing at high speed only a few inches from his head or when he was riding a horse running wild while having both hands tied on his back. Maybe The Good the Bad and the Ugly would have never been seen by audiences and of course there would be no Once Upon a Time In The West or Once Upon a Time in America. On the other hand those movies were shot in Spain so who knows.

Neverending Story. Noah Hathaway (Atreyu) got his foot caught under the platform lowering Artax into the water. He was pulled under and they couldn't get him out. When, they finally did, he was dead. They performed CPR and got the water out and his heart pounding again. A lot of other accidents happened to Noah on the set as well as he was not allowed a stunt double.

The chopper didn't just crash into Vic Morrow and Le were decapitated and mutilated by the helicopter rotor blades, while Chen was crushed by a helicopter skid. Landis and four other defendants, including the helicopter pilot Dorsey Wingo, were ultimately acquitted of involuntary manslaughter after a nearly nine-month trial.

The real messed up part is.. they still decide to finish these movies regardless of someone dying and then have the disrespectful auducity to dedicate it to them like it will make it any better. If someone dies. That movie does not need to be aired.
