Actually, in the real story.... the mermaid didn't have a name. And her sisters made a deal with the sea witch who said killing the prince and allowing his blood to drop on her legs..... this would return her fins. She loved him too much and couldn't...... so turned into foam ( wth is the version where she goes to purgatory)...
@elektra121
@elektra121 5 жыл бұрын
@@zombafan Actually, no. Hans Christian Andersen himself found this ending too depressing, so he made the little mermaid become a "daughter of the air" where she can earn herself the immortal soul she longed for.
@zombafan
@zombafan 5 жыл бұрын
@@elektra121 no read the unabridged version.... I never said she didn't turn into a spirit. She turns into foam. That's irrefutable! Your understanding or misunderstanding of the material discussed, is your problem not mine. You so badly wanted to correct someone.... lol.
@elektra121
@elektra121 5 жыл бұрын
*Sigh* Obviously, you did not only *not* read the story as it was written and published by Andersen - in which she ends up as a daughter of the air and not becomes sea foam, moreover apparently you did not even check up your opinion with the help of easily available sources like wikipedia. I know the "turns into sea foam" end is considered the "better" ending by some and so is the end in some transformative works like the Czechoslovakian movie - yet, it was not what Andersen wrote and intended, as he states and reasons in a letter to a friend (1837): "I have not (...) allowed the mermaid's acquiring of an immortal soul to depend upon the love of a human being. I'm sure that's wrong! It would depend rather much on chance, wouldn't it? I won't accept that sort of thing in this world. I have permitted my mermaid to follow a more natural, more divine path." (Which is, earning an immortal sould if you really strive for it.) He had this in mind from the beginning, so much that the working title of the story was "Daughters of the Air" rather than the "Little Mermaid".

@@elektra121 again not refuting, so understand tonality before you inadvertently advocate for a position that I never said was ERRONEOUS. I hope you pay more attention in your day to day life. Lol enjoy your morning. Xo read the entire ending before you correct me. You will see she turns into FOAM and then a spirit that must wander for 300 years to gain an eternal soul. Trust me, I have been infatuated with the literary works since I was a child. I studied it in College (literally a thesis on the influence didactic stories had on my generation) so, I do not need to be educated on a forum where you are the one who seems to misunderstand the material. Fyi go reread the same info you tried to shame me with, this time back up a little more so you can see she was turned to foam when she threw herself into the sea..... after she could not kill the prince. **sigh** I would love an apology, but that doesn't happen nowadays when someone is obviously wrong.

My mum read me the original version of Pinnochio when I was 7. It was called The Naughty Pinnochio or something like that. I did find it pretty disturbing, but what made it worse was I had a Pinnochio puppet and I kept having nightmares that it would come to life and kill me. The nightmares got so bad that I didn't want to fall asleep so I got my mum to put it in the attic.

Don't forget that Snow White was also 7 years old in the original story, and that the Evil Queen is sometimes her biological mother. Not only that, but the prince seems to have a necrophilia/pedophilia problem. And in some versions of Sleeping Beauty, the Prince brings his bride to meet his mother, who is secretly an ogre and tries to eat her daughter-in-law and grandchildren. The story ends with the mother-in-law getting eaten instead.

Okay, so I'm from Germany, too. I don't really know what you mean about that goat man either, but maybe it's just something that my family never had or my town never had... whatever. I agree that e.g. the Cinderella story... well, it's something that I read when I was little, and I never really thought it was too disturbing. There are many fairy tales that don't really end good for the villain... The stepsisters can be glad to only lose parts of their feet, many of the villains die (look at Snow White...) But aren't there any fairy tales in other countries (wherever you come from) that have cruel parts, too? This is not meant as an insult, I am just curious.

Your explanations are all wrong and way too short to get anything from it. "The little mermaid" is not a "disturbing" story but rather a sad love story and it's 1000 times better than the Disney version. And she was never obsessed with "hanging with humans" she was in love with a human prince.

@tasha4856
@tasha4856 6 жыл бұрын
FriendlyCrooc: It still is disturbing because yes she did love the prince, but the prince treated her like a plaything and made her dance for his pleasure. Idk about you, but that would feel like hell dancing for your lover when your feet feel like knives stabbing into your feet. Plus the prince falls in love and marries another woman who I think is a princess and not the sea witch in disguise like Disney had portrayed. Her sisters' traded their hair to the sea witch for a magical knive for their sister to kill the prince so she wouldn't turn into seafoam. She goes to do the deed, but couldn't because she sees how happy both of them are and jumps into the ocean turning into the seafoam.

Tangled: after the prince discovers Rapunzel's tower, the two become lovers and she gets pregnant. It's only when her clothes get too tight to hide the pregnancy that the witch finds out. The prince is thrown from the tower window upon his next visit, landing in brambles that blind him, and Rapunzel is cast out to wander in the desert with her infant until the two lovers can find each other again.

Don't forget the beginning to Rapunzel's tale. While her mother is pregnant, mother gothal gives them rapion repeatedly, which is also how Rapunzel got her name. Eventually gothal stops giving the rapion and Rapunzel's mother claims she will die if she doesn't get more. Desperate, the father steals the plant. Upon being discovered, he's forced to give Rapunzel to mother gothal.

I used to research folk tales for fun, because that’s the kind of geek I am. Anyway, keep in mind that most of these stories have dozens of variations ( except for the ones authored by HC Anderson). So, one Cinderwench story might have the sisters dying, another having them tortured in some exotic way, and yet another having them simply be servants.

Here's an even more disturbing backstory..... Walt Disney's own mother died as a result of a gas leak in a house that he bought for his parents as a gift...... This happened just a couple of years before "Bambi" was released; clearly (to me) that real life event influenced Walt's choice to start that traumatic project. Also, "Cinderella" was Walt's personal favorite; I think that not only did he identify with the "rags to riches" story, as he once said in a recorded interview, but deep down I think he loved the idea that his own mother's spirit was helping him succeed----just like the "Fairy" Godmother in his animated feature. TT^TT And, by the way, has anyone been able to find a documented explanation as to why Flora from "Sleeping Beauty" has the same given name as Walt's mother, Flora Disney?!! (For this reason, supposing the character was based on the real person so close to Walt's heart, I feel like Disney Co's "Maleficent" was a spitting insult to Flora's memory because of how they destroyed that character!! The Disney Co. SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER!!!)

A farmer and his wife live next to a witch, who grows this lettuce, a type called Rapunzel (yes, that's literally the name of it). The wife gets pregnant and during the pregnancy one of her cravings is for that lettuce, so she insists her husband sneak into the witch's garden and steal some for her. Tldr, he gets caught while trying it, and strikes a deal with the witch that she gets their baby...whom the witch names, for some reason, after the lettuce. Yes, really - Rapunzel in the original story was NOT stolen from her parents, and her parents weren't royalty; they were farmers who literally agreed to give the witch their baby. Who she named after the lettuce they tried to steal from the garden. And then, of course, locked in a tower, which is pretty much the first part they actually start to retain IIRC in the Disney version. Idk if it's so much "disturbing" as just weird though which might be why it didn't make the cut here :P You can't really compare that to "Ariel should have felt like she was walking on knives" or "Sleeping Beauty was raped in her sleep".

and Alice and Wonderland was written by a pedophile who was actually trying to warn against drugs. Alice is actually a child he felt love for. Yes love. Apparently he was repressing his feelings but we did find crazy photos he had with him: "news.artnet.com/app/news-upload/2015/01/carroll-and-alice-kissing.jpg" This is the only one I can show that would be legal, that's him with the little sister of that Alice girl I mentioned. In a weird way I think the guy did care about children and wasn't a psychopath. He got along well with that family. Nothing suggests he abused of those children because even the worse pictures are basically just a naked kid and nothing else going on. People don't like to admit it but if you research deeper into it, you won't find anything wrong with this guy other than his feelings for children. He never actually abused anyone.

I'm Danish and has grown up with the stories of Hans Christian Anderson. The Little Mermaid does not end like that. It ends with her sisters rushing to the palace after trading with (in Disney's case) Ursula and has a potion for Ariel. She refuses to take it, since it will make her a mermaid again and she ends up becoming foam on the waves of the sea.

Dingus mc Flingus that's not the real story. I hope u know that. The true one is that he was a demon/dark soul who would kill children in their sleep and carry their lifeless bodies to Neverland (which is supposed to be hell) and their souls just roam around.

The Lion King is NOT based on Hamlet, it is a direct copy of the African tale, Kimba, the White Lion.....Matthew Broderick stated that he thought that was the movie that Disney was making because he was familiar with this story from his childhood.

Well actually sir, for Ariel, the man who wrote the story (Hans Christian Andersen) had written a happy ending for it, but the publisher said no. After the story was out the public did not like it, so they published the happy ending that a lot of people liked. The happy ending was tha she did not kill the prince because she understood the value of a life, so some air sisters (or whatever I forgot their names) rewarded her by making her one of them. What they did was they helped a child become good and every child that made someone laugh (I think) made them a yea closer to gaining a soul (which Ariel wanted) and every child that did bad things meant that Ariel would cry, and every tear shed would mean she was a day farther from what she wanted.

for example it's Heracles not Hercules. Also in some versions his wife (forhot her name) was a slave given to him as a gift, he has 2 children I think and then Hera or some other god trick him into killing them. And after doing 12 trials he commits suicide

Well the thing is all the "fairy tales" origin comes from a stories that were all disturbing and were never meant for children. Hansel and Gretel originally killed the witch and ate her or some shit. They were all pretty fucked up, but then people just removed the dark parts from the original source material and made them into happy ending stories for kids, with princes and love.

Heracles was not at all like the Disney movie. Not even sure you could show the story of Heracles to kids. Hera is actually the God that hates Heracles not Hades. Hera hates Heracles because he was born when her husband Zeus sleeped with a mortal woman. She made Heracles life a living hell to the point that he kills his own kids in madness. He does the 12 tasks, but not to become a true hero like in the cartoon, but as repentance for killing his children. That is just the start of how the story is different, but I'm just reading the wiki which anyone could do.

Mark S Heracles was taken from Greek Mythology to. Which is a little bit different from where some of the other Disney Movies 🎥 got the Origins or story lines from to. To the best of My Knowledge.
@1mezion
@1mezion 6 жыл бұрын
Mark S a lot of Greek mythology has to be touched up to make it more palatable for modern-day you must also remember that Hera is Zeus's sister as well as wife so incest was definitely a thing also Zeus would have sex with anything in a dress he was a real male God whore, so Fidelity was definitely not a thing.

in rapunzel the Prince gets blinded by thorns after the witch shoves him off of the tower. before that rapunzel (who was pregnant at the time) was banished to a desert where the blind Prince runs into her, gets healed by her tears (at least they got that bit right) and discovers she gave birth to twins (they really liked twins then) also, snow white was SEVEN in the original story

Her father captured him and took him to many camps till he ended up in his. If you have ever read blood on the River it talks all about it and how England took over Virginia.
