We loved watching Disney movies as kids, but reading the original fairy tales might not be really appropriate unless you are a grown-up. That’s because these stories look more like horror stories than love stories. The princes are not so charming after all, and some princesses are not better either. This is why we are showing you 10 Disturbing REAL STORIES Behind DISNEY Fairy Tales.
We were already scared when watching “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” when her mother asked the hunter to come back with her heart and then tried to give her an apple because she was jealous of her beauty. But if you read the original tale, you’ll find out that this is not the only thing that she did to the poor princess. Her punishment is also terrifying, but we can say that she deserved it.
We all remember the rags-to-riches story of “Cinderella,” the poor servant who went to the ball and met the love of her life. But if you read the original story, you’ll find out the real reason why she lost her shoe. You’ll even hear about what her step sisters did to fit in the shoe and what happened to them when Cinderella got married. This is not a happy ending.

This confirms what I've been telling people for years. Fairy tales were once Grimm Fairy Tales, the original horror stories. The only authentic version I was told as a kid was Rapunzel. When I heard the G-rated versions after, that got me curious enough to spend some time looking things up when I was very young.

The reasons why Disney wanted to make every fairy tale a happy ending was bc the stories were terrifying and Disney had a very good reason to revamp the tales into their own version for young children and make them into family movies of a happy ending

Yes it is racist in a way, but it wasn't meant to be. If the original name of the princess was portrayed, people wouldn't understand it, and hence wouldn't like the story after all.

Just because they changed the name to Jasmine doesn't make it racist, its because its easer for kids to pronounce. jasmine in Arabic is yasamin. The word Jasmine is a plant and the oils are used for perfumes. Every thing is not always racist.

You left out the cannibalism and murder part in Sun, Moon, and Talia where the kings wife tried to feed the babies to the king as revenge but the cook kept the babies and feed him baby sheep then the queen wasn't satisfied. So she tried to burn Talia alive but the king walks in and sees what is going on. So instead he burns the wife and his secretary (the secretary told the queen) but when it was the cooks turn he told the king he saved the babies you know because he is the only sane one and the cook was rewarded. And they lived happily ever after. THE END

I think that even though there are other versions, maybe the world needs to know about the real versions of this movies, just because this teaches universal truths and life lessons that you will hardly forget and will help you make good choices in life.

I have a tales book with most of these original stories and always read these as a child. So I can´t really say my childhood was ruined, these stories just were common to me. Adding to that I only watched most DIsney film adaptions when I was a teenager and wondered why they changed it up so much.

I only know the Version of Ariel, When Ariel Saw a man She wanted To be with him (like The Little mermaid storry) But when she got to the witch, she Had To Give her voice to her But if she fails To Gain the love of the prince, She'd die. Her sisters Gave the witch their hair because they knew about this all. They got a knife, To Uncurse The spell she Had to kill the prince to become mermaid again, She didn't want that.So she Stabbed herself And Landed In water, She Became soap and never was sawn again. (this is The German version of grims little mermaid.) There is no happy ending.

The mermaid died, but she became a spirit, which was a happy ending because when mermaids died they became sea form. It would have been happier if she would have had her man in the end like in the Disney version.

Surprisingly, I was read this version of the Disney tales when I was little because, in all Chinese books, this is the version they write in so this is the version I was told for all the fairytales.

i read rapunzel as a child with a very different beginning. as far as i remember: Rapunzel's mother was craving the corn salad (which in germany we call Rapunzelsalat - therefor the childs name) that grew in her neighbour's garden the farther the pregnancy went. when the old hag (the said neighbour) found Rapunzel's father climbing over her garden wall to get some of the Rapunzelsalat for his wife she made a deal with them. the salad for the child. So after she was born she put Rapunzel in a tower far away and raised her and so on until the princeling came along (who actually didn't throw himself out of the tower but was pushed by the witch who waited there instead of his dear darling Rapunzel). anyone else does know that one?

Actually, they didn't tell the whole story. when she goes back home her dad is long dead, and her mom remarries. the Khan that she was fighting against takes her to be his concubine, and she commits suicide because she'd rather die than become the concubine of her enemy. She also already had a fiancé and never gets to say goodbye to him because the message she sent never got delivered.
