Some of these rules can be used for everyone, others can't. Note that he says these 10 rules are for himself and potentially people in his income range, not something that others have to follow completely: 1. Always have one year of emergency funds (in a savings account). - This is likely an extreme stretch goal for the majority of us. Create a rainy day savings account and start funding it with what you can in automatic deposits. It will save you later in life. 2. Save 10% and invest 20% of your gross annual income. - These totals are infeasible for most people, but making sure you are saving (like a rainy day fund) and investing (401k/Roth IRA) some percentage of your money and making it automatically transfer. 3. Pay cash for large expenses. - Most people can do this. Living within your means and being realistic on what you have will help keep you from paying for what you can't afford. 4. Never question paying money for books, appetizers, health, or donations to charities/fundraisers. - Analyse the difference between wanting something and needing something. If you need any of the above, don't question the purchase. 5. Buy business class seats on flights over four hours long. - No chance most people can buy business class, but something similar can be used. For things we know will take a long time and won't change, like a room at a hotel, rental cars, or leg room on a plane, be willing to pay a little extra for a lot more comfort. 6. Buy the best and keep it as long as possible. - Keep up maintenance on things you own. Fix things yourself and learn to do so on KZfaq. Sew the little holes in your shirt, learn to fix little things on your car, etc. Make sure to also do the math to figure out when buying something new may actually save you money, like a used hybrid car vs. a broken down gas guzzler. 7. No limit for spending on health or education. - This includes buying books for yourself to learn from or getting that gym membership you weren't sure about. Invest in your mind and your body and you'll get a lot more benefit in time. 8. Earn enough to work only with people you respect and like. - A large majority of people don't have a say in this, but you can still ensure your friends and people around you lift you up. Associate yourself with people who you can learn from or who have succeeded in something you strive for. Who you associate with determines who you become. 9. Prioritize life outside the spreadsheet. - Don't count every penny. Automate your financial transfers and check in once a month, but don't live in a way that you are forced to live paycheck to paycheck. If you do, cut down on expenses and live within your means. 10. Marry the right person. - This impacts your finances tremendously. Don't marry someone if you would not trust them to take care of everything you own. Marriage makes a lot of legal changes to your life. Be aware of them and plan for them.

Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.

From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

@@katrinatyler675I've been solely investing in real estate. But with the recent hyper home pricing i've liquidated a few things and have $45k in cash laying around idle. Would love to get your recommendations, I'm in search of something lucrative in the current crazy markets, i will be glad.

My portfolio is very much diversified so it's not like i have a particular fund i invest in, plus i dont do that by myself. i follow the trades of Mrs Karen Gaye Gray.

She is a popular broker you might have heard of. I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

Steven, i had a response from what looks like you, stating WhatsApp you, not sure that’s legit? I responded to the main video, as I didn’t agree with a lot of what Ramit says, and with more reflection, it really isn’t very accurate.

I find it interesting that he would priotise the comfort of occasional flying business over comfort of my daily drive. if I spent more time in my car than flying then I would see it wiser to prioritize that. If you invest in the right car you won't lose money 😊👍

You should always have enough money in the bank to cover a years worth of bills 😂🤦‍♂️, you lost me at that, definitely not aimed at the working class, maybe next time when covering this topic get someone in who can speak to a broader audience. Not just the rich.

This is not just a rich people thing. This is what most financial advisors suggest.. if you have 6-12 months savings you have a some security if you loose your job.

Living within your means makes this doable or even easy for everyone. It might take a year or so to build up the savings, but having the comfort of knowing you won’t be in financial ruin is an indescribable feeling. You are your own limiting belief here

A lot if not most of these are just his personal preferences. Some of them you already need decent amount of money for. The only thing that makes sense is save 10 percent invest 20. And you can adjust those numbers as your budget allow. Buy quality and keep it long time. Other than that the rest is kinda like ok…. I make 140k a year. Fly around world and domestic often. You still will see me walking to back of the plane. Appetizer thing made zero sense that was personal. I’m not gonna break down every point but this could have prob been summarize and been more useful in 3-4 points. Maybe in 4 mins. Cutting out personal stuff and stuff that requires money.
