Great video again. I think the reason most knitters freeze when it comes to certain tasks is we know it takes time & concentration which is often in short supply, whereas we can knit without thinking unless it's a complicated pattern. I currently have half a dozen projects ready to be finished & sewn up & wonder if they'll ever get my attention. Meanwhile I'm knitting yet another unfinished symphony! 🤣
@NimbleNeedles

Well, I have an inkling myself. So I think a lot of people are actually process knitters. They enjoy the process of knitting and not necessarily the finished product all that much. And for them, every interruption is undesirable. It's like when you love cooking and need to do the dishes or so.

I love these videos, Norman! Thank you! 💖If you knit gifts, these finishing touches really elevate your gift. I've had people ask me where I bought something I made for them--a huge ego boost for a hobby knitter like me! Like many, I don't like doing the Kitchner stich because I forget the sequence. However, the Finchley stitch is a great substitute and can be used for most projects that require grafting (e.g., toe of a sock).

Thanks for a very informative video, Norman. I started off thinking this was going to be a video of weaving in ends or blocking, but what an informative lesson. Those baby booties were so cute and this gives me an idea to use old yarn for potholders. And thanks for the lesson on letting out knitting and also grafting. I am comfortable with 3-needle bind-off and even Italian bind-off, but when I hear kitchener stitch, I look the other way. Now I understand it's just Italian bind-off on 2 needles. I can now add much-needed pockets to a cardigan I knitted. A million thanks! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 (that's 100K for every emoji 😂)

Fantastic demonstration Norman. Learned a number of various techniques related to knitting. Video is not just finishing knitting by weaving in ends, you also add the decorative element to enhance a garment. Thanks for the buttonhole band reinforcement idea. We could certainly appropriate that technique for a knitted top with lots of gaps in it, and still make it modest, if we want it to be hassle free, so the wearer doesn't have to search for a camisole or tank top to wear underneath. Although, one would need a bit more sewing knowledge to fulfill that.

You’re right! All the little bits here add to the Perfect Piece, the icing on the cake, so to speak. Swatching is my “don’t wanna do that…”, but if I want a sweater to fit… well…so I now swatch (grin). Yes to better button bands. An issue I have occasionally (as I haven’t made many cardigans), is where the band meets the sweater, the band sometimes curls inward/outward. Wondering if a K1P1 band worked along w the sweater is a good idea (ribbed so no stockinette curling). Yes to felting wool for slippers! For adult feet? Mittens? Best way to felt by hand because my apt bldg only has coin operated machines which lock after cycle starts (boo hoo!) Sewing thread & I don’t really get along… always knot up (grr), reason: fewer ends = lonnnng thread, and … well. And buttons (on shirts), give me a crochet hook, I’d gladly attach !! When I did sew buttons, I swear, the shirt & buttons would be rotting away, whilst the thread holding button would still be there after several eons! lol Thanks for great tips!

I think I found the holy grail, my pieces are always too short 😅 If possible please teach us how to do it but on a ribbing edge 1x1, how to put the stitches back on the needles, if it's doable! Curious..... It's when you start from the bottom to add that extra length... you end up with 1 less stitch? Yes, it happened!! Carefully took everything out & reused the yarn, I dislike waste, 1 stitch less. 🤷 My nemesis is blocking.... Finding a space where it's away from everything and away from pets to dry, finding the time, there's so many things to do. I love to make large, schlanket type projects.

I would love you to suggest the mathematics on knitting those slippers and then to felt it . I always walk around my house in socks that I have knitted . But they're all super wash . I will have to order I super washed wool or spin it . I do have tops but have terrible problems with my joints so cannot do hand felting.

Yeah, figuring out the right cast on for felting can be a problem. 😅

As a descendent of perfectionist seamstresses (handmade vs homemade), the lesson has always been "You should never see the beginning or the end". Hiding ends are always duplicate stitches so there is no evidence of the seaming. Haute Couture vs homemade.

problem with duplicate stitches in knitting is: they are very easy to unravel and on top of that, you would have to split the yarn for it to be even remotely invisible. So, that's why I personally almost never use it. In fact, for knitting (and lace the only exception) duplicate stitches are probably my least favorite way to hide ends.

Awesome, again! Question: The pattern calls for a 2.5mm and a 3mm and I am a tight knitter. Would I miss it much by going up .25 in size on each of the needles? Also, is it better to have say 6 inches longer than needed or shorter? Thanks a bunch! I am 81 and continuing to learn.

Not Norman, but you need to swatch and see if you get the number of stitches per cm or inch the pattern calls for.

Here is a video that details the process: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNp7YKx00tXQYnk.html But yes, you need to knit a swatch to get gauge :) Edit: If the pattern does not indicate a gauge, then I would probably go for 2.5mm needles and see what kind of fabric you create. Do you like the way it looks. And then try it on as soon as reasonably possible and see if it fits or is knit in the dimensions you want it to be.
