Hey everyone, this comment section is full of so many incredible ideas that I just had to make a viewers choice version of this video! I picked 10 of the most commonly suggestion new events and put them all together in one fun video. Check it out to see if your ideas made the list and let me know what you think! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grx_dc50u7mlkmQ.html

Honestly, not interested by just more variations of long distance running… Out of your list I would only support snow volley-ball 3*3 and underwater swimming with fins (maybe without breathing apparatus though…) I would like freestyle roller blades and scooter to join skateboard and BMX, and also beach soccer to replace football that no one cares about any more at the Olympics. As far as completely new events, yes for squash, and also some kind of Ninja warrior / parkour would be awesome.

The issue with all the long distance running events you’d like to add is that mostly the same runners would run them. Making it extremely difficult for them to keep that sort of event schedule in one Olympics. All 3 you mentioned the same person would ideally be up for running. But that would be brutal.
@lamelists
@lamelists 20 күн бұрын
Or conversely, it could expand the field to allow more talented runners to compete. Or it could mean that runners choose different events strategically, introducing additional elements. Or less popular events could be removed to make room for new events. There's a few different ways that overlap could be solved/managed

@@lamelists or it would just send the next best guy up who is not the ideal candidate for that race. Not giving that country the best chance at winning. Usually in long distance events a country like the US has one really good guy and a bunch of competitors. Not like any country is going 1, 2, and 3 in those races. So ideally your taking a guy who’d probably be 8th in one and moving him to another hoping he could compete

I once read that there were discussions to have cross-country running in the Winter Olympics, since its season is run mostly through autumn-winter time and some events are run under snowy conditions. And the European cross-country championships are always held every December.

Some Winter Olympics venues would be very suitable, but others are too cold and snowy for it to make sense. There has been a suggestion made a few times to have a separate Fall (or Autumn) Olympics. The idea would be to include crosscountry running, cyclocross and move mountain biking across from the Summer Games, and then add some other events that are best done outdoors but not in overly hot weather. It would make a lot of sense to put the half-marathon in here (the marathon really should be as well, but they'll never move it from the Summer Games), possibly the racewalks, the canoe slalom (an event that requires a lot of water). It would also be the ideal time of year for lacrosse and surfing to be added to the Olympics, and it would make sense for some of the indoor sports (there are about ten sports conducted indoors in an arena) to be moved over from the Summer Games so other sports can use their Olympic Village space allotments (many sports have to put on limited programs at the Olympics because of a shortage of space in the Village for all the athletes, e.g. track cycling is half the size of the World Championships with events rotating in and out of the Olympic program). The Fall Olympics could take place in the same city as the Summer Games, but be held later in the year, after the Paralympics; that would not add significantly to hosting costs (there would be no entirely new venues other than cross country and cyclocross routes, neither of which require anything more than putting up a few temporary bleachers), while it would ensure that far more events and even sports could be included.

@@lamelists I can see making cross-country a summer event, for the same reason as basketball: It's not particularly related to snow or ice. Indoor non-ice-related games tend to be included in the summer Olympics even though there's no particular reason why you can't play them in any season. My top-3 events that should be in the Olympics are as follows: 1) Cross-country: It's a popular running discipline, it was previously in the Olympics, and the reasoning behind taking it out is obsolete. C'mon, IIRC it was taken out in roughly the same era that women's running events over 200m were taken out! 2) BEACH SOCCER: Like beach volleyball, it's a popular game played on beaches around the world, as well as its own preexisting competitions such as the Beach Soccer World Cup and the Euro Beach Soccer League. (Yes, this means the national teams already exist!) Like futsal, it's a small-sided game with more scoring action, which should make it good for TV. How is this not already in the Olympics? 3) Some form of downhill or enduro mountain biking. Skiing has both cross-country and downhill events in the Olympics; why should mountain biking only have cross-country? Seems like a huge wasted opportunity to introduce it in the 2024 Olympics, since France is the host nation of both the Megavalanche AND the Mountain of Hell. Sure it's not the safest sport out there, but it probably wouldn't even be the most dangerous sport in the Olympics. And the technical difficulty is probably more eye-popping to TV audiences than that of downhill skiing. p.s. I'm convinced by your argument for the standing long jump, so I'll throw that one in as well. Underwater swimming is likely too dangerous due to the risk of shallow water blackout.

There is a mixed relay event in the Paralympics. It's called the Universal Relay. It calls for one athlete from each disability class, on blind/visually impaired, running with or without a guide, one limb difference(a.k.a. amputee), one coordination disability(mild forms of cerebral palsy, MS, etc.), and finally, a wheelchair athlete. There also has to be two women, and two men on each team.

How about, CROSS Fit Half Marathon - so not just a simple half-marathon, or boring steeplechase, but a distance race that requires competitors to jump, climb and crawl obstacles. - IMO, this more mirrors life. Sometimes in emergencies, people have to get around obstacles, so we the general population can relate - This event will test both endurance, physical strength and courage. - This event is sufficiently different from the 26.2 mile marathon to discourage TOP marathon runners from competing - Now it's not simply the slimmest athlete can win, it's now literally the athlete with the strongest will to win! - One caveat, all runners will face identical challenges, but the obstacles should NOT be predictable.

@@HMOCubix Not really, the imperative by T&F federation is that teams will have to add 4 or at least 2 more NEW athletes to these Mixed Relay teams. OR They could implement a rule on the number of activities (Heats) competitors can run within a certain number of days. For instance competitors CAN'T compete in more than 3 events in (say) 5 days - including heats, and no more than (say) 3 FINALs in the O-Games (unless there are all INDIVIDUAL Final events). Hence this nuance adds a great deal of race strategy, and UNLIKE swimming, prevents teams from loading up finals with their TOP athletes... it also prevents teams from endangering athletes by pressuring them to compete exhaustively.

The biggest problem that I see with mixed distance relays is that the positions are totally dominated by the longer legs. Imagine a runner is 1% faster than another. 1% of 800 is 8m. Could you imagine the 200m runner then trying to make up 8m for their team? The short distances are essentially rendered as exhibition legs, which would dramatically reduce the prestige value. Mixed sex relays of the same distance legs, I absolutely agree with though. As the video says, it introduces a whole new layer of strategy and dynamics.

They need to add a mixed pair event for synchronized swimming. This is one that has been added to a lot of world championship events and has been really popular with athletes and fans. It wouldn't be that strange for it to be added to the Olympics. So many unique routines athletes can do in a male/female pair. We see it in figure skating, so it just makes sense. Another event that would be quite cool is synchro trampoline. It's also part of a lot of world championship competitions. One that I don't think will happen, but would be super cool, is cliff diving. I get that there are a lot of dangers, but how cool would it be to watch? Another that I think will be added in the future is stand-up paddleboarding. It's already part of surfing world championships, so wouldn't be hard to add to the Olympics.

As a non American the standing long jump and vertical high jump sound very unnecessary and seem to just require less skill and precision in favour of raw strength which goes against what the games are about in my opinion. For example in the long jump the running and leaping off of the board introduces an element on risk taking, precision and technique as to not foul while getting as much out of the jump as possible whereas a standing start eliminates that possibility of variation and any athlete from the nfl or nba could walk the competition with little to no practice whereas they would need highly specialized training for the traditional long jump

I’m also not so keen on the standing variants, but I don’t see why testing strength is less Olympic. I just think they are inferior events for spectating and more complicated. People are naturally interested in the question what is the furthest or highest someone can jump. It’s less interesting if you put limits on it like from a standing start.

You'd think a 5k runner would be best to win, but stick them with a load of sprinters and they could be out on the first lap. I really want to see this happen now.

Someone else pretty much covered it, but I think there should be 4-man relays from 800 meters on down, as I remember contesting 4x800 in high school, myself. I think a hilarious event might be if they could pull off a seven way relay involving 100 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles, 800, 400, 200, and 2x100. I know it’s usually 400m hurdles and 100m hurdles, but I couldn’t figure out how to put both on the track at the same time AND somehow clear enough track for the other legs. It’d be like the ultimate game of “Who’s team is the best?” I think if they don’t contest 4x200, they need to. I think the reason they don’t do longer relays in the pool or track is because the athletes do a lot, and there’s a lot going on already.

@@lamelists - Maybe my absolute favorite Olympic event is the short track speed skating in the Winter Olympics, because it’s fast and organized chaos. I know some of our hurdle speedsters are some of the fastest outright sprinters, but the mayhem of so many competitors doing what they do best would be madness! If runners were capable of recovering and going back out, I think something like a 5,000m or 10,000m relay, maybe both, with say 4-6 runners where exchanges can happen anywhere on the track, and runners can go in any order, any distance, and can repeat runners before all have run, like the short track speed skating, would be awesome! Which makes me think, we need inline speed skating. I also think track relays where you swap out the baton for where the trail runner can shove his or her teammate from behind anywhere would solve the U.S. Men’s 4x100. The short track relay is very funny where the relief skater has momentum and then gets shoved into the race. I also like the manner of the skater being inside the track, getting up to speed, before taking the track and getting shoved in. Relays are fun!

The problem with an ultra marathon and half marathon, who would run it? The marathon runners? They are WAY too exhausted and dead from the marathon. Running a marathon is a lot more taxing than a 5K or 10K and the runners would not want to do a marathon and another event.
@lamelists

A few folks have brought that up, but I could still see it potentially working for a few reasons: 1) If you did the half on the first day of the games and did the marathon on the last day, that would give a 10-14 day break which could be enough for recovery for those who want to do the double 2) Athletes could just choose NOT to compete in both, no different that an athlete in any other athletics event (ie. some do the 100m and 200m double, some choose one or the other) 3) There are plenty of specialist half marathon runners in the world who already make it their preferred discipline, so not only would it give these folks a chance to shine but it could create a whole new generation of half marathon specialists

I liked 5k scoring in high school. If you have 5 runners you can complete both individually and as a team. If they did this in the Olympics you basically have 2 medal events for the effort of 1. The fastest runner wins but the fastest team also wins. You can have countries participate where they only have a few runners which is fine. If they have more runners they can complete their the next level. Also relays are the only “team” running events so this gives long distance running a team event.

If the sports one year we're like ‘100m, 110m Hurdles, Shooting (Shotgun), Discus, Triple Jump’ that would be very different to if it were ‘Sports Climbing, 800m, Sailing, Equestrian, Obstacles’. So if we want to put more variations I'd say just make a few separate -athlon events that stay consistent and maybe are on rotation between games or just stay on depending on the Host City/Country.
@TheDibule
@TheDibule 5 күн бұрын
I’m not too sure about choosing sports at random but they need to do something about pentathlon. I think they’ll replace equestrian and frankly they should also replace shooting (why is shooting guns and rifles an Olympic sports in the first place? Shooting cannons also used to be Olympic but it was discontinued thank God…) So what does that leave us with? Replace equestrian by cycling and then shooting by climbing and you get some kind of triathlon + fencing + climbing. While we’re at it replace fencing by rowing or kayaking and you get a fun combined event of who “moves” the best: swim, run, cycle, row/paddle, climb.

Juggling in the Olympics - A Perfect Sport There are many reasons why juggling is a perfect sport and as such why it should be included in the Olympic Games. Juggling has a long history and is enjoyed by people of all ages around the world. It requires discipline, skill, precision, speed, and consistency, making it a unique and challenging sport. It teaches a step by step approach to overcoming obstacles and achieving goals of any kind. 1. Physical demands: Juggling requires the use of the entire body, from the hands, arms, shoulders, and back to the legs and core muscles for stability. It requires strength, flexibility, and endurance. Jugglers must maintain their focus, accuracy and concentration for extended periods of time, which is physically and mentally exhausting. 2. Competitive aspect: Juggling competitions have been held for over 75 years, with participants competing in categories such as endurance, freestyle, and full routine programs. There are established rules and regulations for juggling competitions, making it a viable sport for Olympic consideration. 3. Cultural significance: Juggling has been a part of many cultures throughout history. It has been used in performance, entertainment, and even as a form of therapy. Juggling can be found in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, medieval art, and in modern-day street performances. Its inclusion in the Olympics would recognize and celebrate its cultural significance. 4. Accessibility: Juggling requires minimal equipment and can be practiced almost anywhere. It is an inclusive sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Its inclusion in the Olympics would promote inclusivity and diversity. 5. Entertainment value: Juggling is a visually stunning sport that can captivate audiences. Its inclusion in the Olympics would provide a unique and entertaining addition to the lineup of traditional Olympic sports. 6. Juggling improves reaction time, speed, accuracy and proprioception. It is an excellent cross training exercise that can also be used to improve these elements in other sports.

So instance, we can have a half marathon run by man followed by half marathon run by woman or vice versa as the mixed event. Let’s at least get that in if not half marathon events. 2. We have too many diving events. We can reduce some. Also who likes speed walking. We can also remove rhythmic gymnastics and artistic swimming and breaking. These can be cool but not really sports. 3. We should also bring in mixed fencing. We have mixed archery and mixed shooting. Instead of 3x3 events, we can have each team have 2 male and 2 female (where men face men and women face women). Instead of going till 45, let’s go till 60 so 12 rounds (3 for each). 4. We should have mixed 4*100 and add some more mixed track events. Like 2 people running 800 m ish for the mile run. On that note, loved the mixed triathlon relay. I'd love to see a Marathon relay event where the distance of a Marathon is covered in teams of 4 or 5. This would require teans to think strategically about who runs what leg.

Polo for sure, if they are willing to have equestrian then why not the far more interesting horse event. And roller hockey would be amazing, it actually makes little sense it's included when you realize there is ice hockey and field hockey already in

Technically, synchronised swimming is now called artistic swimming. No reason not to bring back a solo event. They could also add mixed events.

Anything that is totally dependent on judges awarding points should not be included and should be a candidate for removal. The mile event can only appeal to people not using the metric system. Good new events/sports would be bowling, orienteering, billiards, floorball, squash. Sports that should be dropped include surfing, breakdance (which is on its way out, YAY!), syncronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics.

I get removing Performance sports, but they are still definitely sports and they are some of the best for viewers so no way are they getting removed, max changing so more judges judge them to make it fairer.
@TheDibule
@TheDibule 5 күн бұрын
I kind of agree but you realistically can’t remove all judge based sports (like gymnastics). Breaking is interesting, but as an art form and physical performance, not as an Olympic event where you award medals… To me the most obvious sport to remove is shooting. Frankly what is the purpose and message of that “sport”?
@christopherx7428
@christopherx7428 2 күн бұрын
@@TheDibule I agree that you have to consider the history of some sports, like regular gymnastics and wrestling but they should not include new sports that are completely dependent on judges, in my opinion. Shooting is one sport where judges play no role at all, thus it is a good sport to include in my opinion - please note that this has nothing to do with my opinions about whether I like or dislike the sport as such.
