You should celebrating the shabbat friday from 5:00 (earlier 1 hour) until Saturday at 7:00 (later 1 hour) - about 26 hours ( depens the date of the year & the long of the days)

I remember thinking it was SO weird that our synagog served pickled herring and honey cake to break the fast. I remember thinking “you haven’t eaten all day and THIS is what you pick first?” But recently I’ve found myself missing it (even though i literally haven’t had it in over 15 years!)

My daughter and I are LOVING your videos from New Zealand! Our family has a tradition of teaching children to fast 2 hours for every year of life as a way of gradually easing them into it gently. So a 4 year old sleeps through it. As do most 5 year olds (no food for an hour or two before bed, and the sleep through the rest of the time). By age 7 or 8 children will need to wake and wait an hour or two to eat before reaching the 14 or 16 hour mark and many of them quickly work out sleeping in makes this easier! Down here in Christchurch the mothers then make a big deal out of how long the child went as we are such a tiny expat community so most of the children view each other as though they are “cousins”....Moving to Wellington next year but if you ever find yourself heading to New Zealand give a shout out and happy to host you for a meal!

Happy belated Rosh Hashanah. From our families to yours as my grandmother used to say it to us in Russian translating for you to English on Rosh Hashanah we are inscribed and on Yom Kippur, we are sealed. I have not been allowed to fast due to my medical issues and other things. We had a great Rosh Hashanah holiday and took our book to our local Chabad shul to attend service and for him to hear the shofar not to mention to touch the Torah. Since he is only almost 21 months old and not yet independently walking it is hard to just leave him with other kids to play while we go to service. So my husband and I trade-off when we go to attend services. For Yom Kippur we will be doing the same I am going to go to some of the service and my husband will too with trading-off once again in watching our boy. Our mom's club does meetups each week and one of them happens to be on that day of Yom Kippur with a mark playdate. I know I am supposed to attend services with our little one or be home so it is hard to decide on what to do because I know it is a holy day where you are not supposed to be doing much other then saying sorry with praying.

We always break fast with breakfast/brunch. I just can't eat anything heavy or leafy. I need bread-like products. LOL. We do eat a heavier feast before it starts though. I haven't fasted in so long.....at least, not full fasting. I can't, neither can my husband. So, we try to keep to liquids or liquid foods. Like, broth and shakes and stuff. It's never fully satisfying, but we are getting in the type of nutrients we need to not get sick (or when I was breastfeeding after baby started some solids). Also, I allow my daughter, who is 14 this year, to do the same. I feel like we are still kind of getting the message, and not getting sick. I always say "just do your best, that's all you can expect of yourself".

I wear a tallit which goes across my shoulders. It’s a prayer shawl. It’s a worn traditional for just men. As a woman in the Reform Jew I wear it. It’s to bring us closer to G-D during prayer. I have my grandfathers tallit which means so much to me. It makes me feel like he is there with me and is hugging me along with feeling closer to G-D.
@MyJewishMommyLife
@MyJewishMommyLife 4 жыл бұрын
I have gotten a lot of requests about funerals and shivas I will definitely film a video about it and talk about what people wear and who wears a Tallit etc. which is I think what you're talking about, it's a prayer shawl mostly worn by men but women in more reform and conservative communities as well.

You can not cook on Yom Kippur!! It's holyer day than shabbat. About the 24 hours. It is 26 hours. At shabbat, Yom Kippur and other holidays it is 26 hours: from earlier 1 hour to later one hour. For example at the spring time (when the length of the day and the night are equel) the shabbat begins from friday 15:00 until Saturday 19:00. At the winter from Friday 16:00 until Saturday 18:00. At the summer from Friday 18:00 until Saturday 20:00. There are times of the enter of every sabbat and every other holidays indicate in every Jewish calander
