plant a garden...here in the deep south I started my first tomato starters in Jan...have already canned 12 qts of tomatoe sauce and 4 qts of salsa. potatoes dont do as well...but dehydrated the equivalent of 5 gallons of hashbrowns..YIes, we buy canned goods also, and boxed...but every time you can can your own food you grew...you have more to spend on that which you cant grow well in your zone. Got an amazing deal on flour a while back and have about 10 pounds of pasta made...

Buy whole grains. Look for grains in bags, cost less. Put the grain in any bucket and seal tight. Grain will keep for many many years. Can be kept at room temp. Get a hand grinder and you can make flour for bread, or courser grind for cereals. Store yeast. Cheapest place to buy yeast is Sams, 2 lbs for under $8. Buy tomato powder, egg powder, and butter powder. Buy oils and store them in your freezer. Bullion stores well and can be use as a hot drink, or as a base for soup. Dry soup mix. spices. Lots of baking soda, white vinegar, apple vinegar. Baking soda and cream of tartar = baking powder. Sugar, coffee, tea. Lemon powder. Laundry detergent, consider laundry sheets. Dry bleach. Bottle bleach will go flat. ( I just checked at Sams for yeast. YOu can no longer have it shipped, you have to pick it up. checked at Walmart you can order a 2 lb bag. If you have any plans on making bread you had better get your yeast. Also pick up baking soda and cream of tartar. In the last shut down yeast was one of the first things to disappear and one of the last things to come back.)

I find myself purchasing potatoes in various ways from my grocery stores. Be it freeze dried, frozen, flaked, dehydrated, etc. This method ensures nothing is going to waste over time. Fresh potatoes have risen in price due to (you name it here). That goes for almost every food item in the last three years. Being prepared is a life's choice for us. It is better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

Also, when potatoes start to sprout, you can plant them if you have the space and conditions

Tatters have a tendency to rot pretty easy. The best thing is the grow them yourself. Do not wash them and put them in a cool dry place, preferably in a root cellar.

Frozen foods are good for winter, when you can keep them frozen outside. But in the summer, when the electricity is out, your stock of food will spoil within 2 days.

Sams club. Golden Grill Hash Browns. 33oz $8.98. Potatoes, Salt and Dextrose and Sodium Bisulsite. Rehydrated I would think they would have a lot of uses.

Amazing … you only included 1 of the 3 real surviver foods … canned fish! You completely left out rice and dry beans! You also left out the Native American foods … corn, squash, and beans … And, Cajun (swamp) basics: celery, onions, peppers, and garlic. Yet, you included commercial cereal (not whole grains) and Rahmen (glue noodles)! Just saying …

Hoarding *causes food shortages. Perhaps most could be given to Charities sometime before the expiry date?

An old fashion from life exsperiance and life shown... any acidic type foods if not dehydrated or freeze dried please learn from this elders life growing up elders around me exsperiances... acidic foods in metal cans aren't good longterm better for tomatoes pinapples etc... best to store and seal in glass jar verses can doesn't mean can can't be good for shorter term needs it just the acidic foids tend to absorb the metalic can and also can arode the can and cause bursting... just learned from my grandfolks thru years...

You can open can tomatoes, put in canning jars, and do a hot water bath. We do it all the time. If can good especially acidic ones need to be kept in a cool dry place, away from heat. Even spices will spoil in a cabinet. I hope that helps.😊
