It depends on which movie/show you're watching, but Frankenstein can be either the doctor or the monster.

Elizabeth Piatak in the original story it's the doctor. People just get it mixed up/don't know that so they call the monster Frankenstein

He does refer to himself as the "Adam of your labours" though, so I think he named himself Adam more or less.

Technically the monster never had a name in the book-Mary Shelley the author of Frankenstein referred to (at a later date) the monster as Adam.
