For Don Quixote make sure that you have good translation as there are over 20 of them.

The Count of Monte Cristo is such a fulfilling book, so many great life lessons to take away and ponder....it has always stayed with me. I think the trick with harder books is to intersperse them with lighter reading. I am reading Moby Dick at the moment, but am using The Chronicles of Narnia as a palette cleanse when I get bogged down...works well for me. Thanks for the great video keep up the good work!!

I didn't realize that so many people love Monte Cristo. It has definitely been bumped up my list. Also one definitely should read Narnia in between every book they read. Thanks for support :)

I think my limit was an abridged children's version of 'Black Beauty' by Anna Sewell. I read all or most of that.

I hear the Count of Monte Cristo is a thrill-ride through-and-through. It would be truly WILD if you read both the English and French versions-How cool if you told us how they feel in their differing languages!

The Odyssey takes place after the events of The Iliad, so it is kinda a sequel. But I'm sure you can read them on their own. I highly recommend reading some retellings like The Song of Achilles, Circe, Ithica, etc. They're easier to understand and they give you an idea of the general story, while focusing on some more minor characters from the original poems. The Count of Monte Cristo was such a fun read! Especially that edition since it's not abridged. Don Quixote is on my TBR. I read a few chapters and it's so funny! What I remember from it is he wants to be a Knight, but instead of a horse he rides a donkey and instead of a sword he has a stick. 😂 I want to go back and finish it sometime this year.

Thanks for the info!! Very helpful. Everyone is raving about Monte Cristo in the comments. I think I've got to get on that one first.

The Count of Monte Cristo may be long but it is a pretty easy read otherwise, the story is great and I loved every part of it. It is one of my favorite books, I'd definitely encourage you to start it and see where it takes you!

You're inspiring me to pick up a long book! I've not read much Russian literature either, but I think my next long book is 'The Brothers Karamazov' which I've started a couple times, but never finished because it's so long. Also, I love the Count of Monte Cristo, too!
