I think cds and dvds will come back into popularity. Not only because internet prices keep rising, but also streaming services keep rising. Especially for people who like to rewatch their favorite tv series or movie franchise. I bought my grandson 4 dvds for Christmas because the cost of my daughter's internet increased by $50 last month. Now he can watch a show while mom gets ready for work. Edit: I agree with the other comment about keeping your divorce papers, etc. I can only speak to the US, and I don't know about every state in the US, but to get my driver's license in my new state I had to have my birth certificate, my social security card, my marriage certificate from 1995 and my divorce papers from 1999. I had to prove why my name changed from my birth certificate to my driver's license in my last state.

@@declutterhub I'm glad I only moved one state away, because I had to drive 5 hours back to my home state, to the courthouse to get a stamped copy of my marriage certificate, then 5 hours back. 🤣 Hope you all have a great holiday season!

That’s why I kept my dvds and cds. I’ve heard that movies also get removed from the services. I lend out to people who can’t find the movie or show on the service. I also have older tv shows on dvd for my kids to watch so they can get jokes and punchlines as part of their arts & classics education.

I love this podcast SO much; look forward to it every week. This one was exceptionally hilarious. I really like/admire/appreciate how authentic you two are through sharing what you have decided to keep even while challenging others to declutter the same items. Wise teachers. I decluttered a cd collection of over 200 cds and more than half my vinyl collection down to about a dozen (yes actually 12, Lesley). I decluttered the stereo system with record player so I don't even play them lately-definitely sentimental items. I decluttered a dresser. I decluttered a teacup collection with the wall hanging tea rack. No weddings or divorces for me yet. I have nothing in my closet or dresser that doesn't fit, but I did hang onto a dress that I LOVED for far too long because it used to look so good on me. It didn't look bad but was just tight enough that it wasn't as comfortable. Accepting my present self completely as is with no regret or wishing for different is very empowering and freeing. Letting go of the clothing feels like shedding an old skin. I have ceremoniously burned even nice letters and notes from past romantic relationships that had some toxic energy within them. I released that from my physical life so it doesn't linger in the periphery. Hard enough to carry those experiences, keeping "souvenirs" from the time keeps it too close. HARDCORE all the way!

I am listening to you and about albums, CD's, Cassettes I must tell you that last Christmas I got a system where I can play all of my collection. About the photos-I lost my Mum 7 years ago and she had so many albums and pictures that when I went through them I kept very few. My parents loved to travel and took pictures of scenery and people they met and so most of the pictures were chucked. We had no way of knowing who or where the pictures were taken and we had no one who would want them.

My son bought us the full DVD Friends set as it turned out that Netflix removed some scenes . We were re-watching it and we thought: "Hang on, this and this part should follow after a particular scene...". So, we will keep our dvds. By the way, nice to see a fellow Dutch lady Ingrid!

I have CDs still but I still listen to them on my cd player radio and I just kept my favorites 🙂 I do this because I don't own blue tooth or adapter and add ons of modern technogolgy. I don't even own a cell phone. I still use landline and I don't watch TV any more so I got rid of those and some stuff that is over 20 years old that has not been used in years. I did go through the emotional process and grieving through this process but it propelled me forward to a new life and way of living

I still have a lot of records and a record player in my living room. Above the record player I have a folk art type painting of bears dancing. I also like the photos that are on the album covers. I also have lots of CDs and DVDs as I do not possess the new way of listening to them. I also have a diamond engagement ring that is missing quite a bit of the diamonds as they fell out and I lost them years ago. I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. Maybe next year.

A freind was on trial for a felony 20+ years ago. “Stuff” resurfaces legally every x years and the papers are needed for another possible go. As a one time legal secretary and someone with a toxic ex.... put the papers in a bin and put it in a dark, dry corner. I tossed all my 2001 court papers in 2016 from that ex and he took me back to court a year n half later. There was documentation in those papers that I tossed that would have saved me thousand$.

When I was young, someone gave me a statue of a penguin. Somehow everyone I knew decided that THIS would be my icon, so I got penguins from everyone for years. I never really wanted even 1 penguin statue, but I got typecast as the Penguin Man. The lowest point was when someone bought me a 5 foot tall fiber glass penguin. I had it in the passenger seat of my car when I was pulled over by the police for what they called an illegal lane change. The police man thought I was totally bonkers. I still have the very best quality statues, but the others have gone to charity.

This was a super video. I love the laughs. I feel good because just this week I gave away a huge French Provincial chest of drawers that my aunt and mother shopped for in the 1950s and I was with them at the time. Weighed a ton and just didn't need it. Also, gave away a rocker and another living room chair that we just didn't need. But the alencon lace wedding gown remains after 48 years. Just can't do it! Have given away about 80% of stuff during a downsize 5 yrs. ago. But that gown remains. And what do I do with my mom's mink jacket? I'm trying to find an upscale clothing thrift store, but it's also still here. Thanks....loved the video.

Any thoughts on partners who insist on saving a lot of what you are suggesting to toss? They are the keepers of family stuff. It would be a crime against the family to toss any of it. They are. The keepers of the toxic memories. How do you deal with it?

The clothes decluttering was the easiest to do. No more synthetics or wrong sized clothes. Eventually will declutter the coloured clothes & embroider the natural fibre clothing. The synthetic dyes in clothing are not good for the environment Not buying more is the trick..

For me the saved paperwork isn't to prove I was wronged, I have a fear of the problem coming back to haunt me. I want the paperwork to save the day from it coming back a second time to hit me. It is armor from them crushing me again.. Hopefully, people have sold wedding rings for cash to start over. That makes the most sense to me. The person is not coming back or you don't want them back. Use the money to build a new life.

Sometimes you need to prove you're divorced, so it's good to have easy access to the documents. If you want to remarry, for example, you may need to reference the documents. Also, in some probate proceedings, the subject comes up during the part about the distribution of estate assets.

Hello, my best friend died a year ago, I loved her very much, but let me say, she was somewhat spoiled she lived in a 9000 square foot home with an unfinished 2 level tower apartment with a mountain of things in the middle, also in small barn, so her mother went into memory care, so now her husband is having to move, and I lived there on weekends to care for her, so my question is this, she loved Halloween, she had no cap on what she could spend on Halloween decorations for party every year, well I inherited it. I have a small home, and I don't ever have parties, most of her things are indoor, to include a Halloween village , so I can't stand the thought of the court appointed trustee coming in with his team and throwing away(saw it happen with tower I mentioned earlier) I love Halloween also , and I want all of it, but where do I draw the line, I'm having a hard time not keeping all, no room but so cute, she would hate anyone else having
