These are the kinds of videos I watch when I should be asleep and have work in the morning.

Anyone else love watching these camping type videos, especially when the weather is a bit rough. While wrapped up warm and cosy in bed something so comforting about it

When we were kids, my brothers and I attached a refrigerator box and a washer and dyer box to make a house with rooms and windows. Our dad helped us cover it with plastic to make it water proof and we would go out in it in the rain. It was one of many of my fondest childhood memories. Our cardboard “house” lasted us for almost an entire summer before it finally gave in to the elements. I think of that often with a smile 😊

I'm so thankful I have a roof over my head and hot food in my stomach "Some people have to sleep like this permanently." I can't imagine how hard it must be to be without a home. 😢

Remember my papaw building a foundation out in the woods. Just a random cement block, bout 10x10. He said it was for a new deer stand he was gonna make. Little did we know, it wasnt. He made it for us, to build on...whatever we wanted. We made a cardboard fort out of 5 giant pieces that we folded/cut/taped. He covered it in tar paper (he was a roofer so we had a lot), and then put some old partly busted siding on it. We put a simple frame on the inside out 1x1's, and it lasted us a little over a year before we cleaned it up and built a real fort out of solid wood. My papaw passed away since then, and i havent thought about that for a few months. Thank you for helping me remember. He was the greatest man i ever knew, and was a father figure for me when i needed it even tho he shouldnt of had to be. I am a man because of him, and im also happy because of him. RIP yuh ol bastard, we couldnt miss you more than we already do.

I live in Christchurch New Zealand . After the earthquakes destroyed much of our city we were very lucky to get a cardboard Cathedral designed by an amazing Japanese man who has done other cardboard structures . The cardboard Cathedral doesnt leak and its still being used every day !!

When I was a teenager and my parent died, I was out in the streets in -40C yes - it was that cold. I hundred under cardboard on top of street vents and stayed alive without losing any part of my fingers or toes, during the day I would find a washroom and dry my clothes. Those 2 months saved my life. I always looked for cardboard

As someone that spent many years sleeping in cardboard boxes I can confirm that they are awesome for insulation. If you spray the interior and exterior with beeswax they can last several months in moist conditions.

Growing up (I'm 63), we had a neighbour who's dad worked with new tractors and he brought home this really big cardboard box, it was really really thick and us kids used it as a fort, tent etc etc............... After a few months it finally succumbed to the weather. I have so many warm memories from sharing fun times with my local neighbourhood friends simply from playing inside a cardboard box lol.

That cardboard tent and a 6x8 tarp would be an amazing combination!

I used to build cardboard forts in the woods near our apartment, in the rain, way back when I was a kid. This reminds me so much of those peaceful and fun times. We'd spend all day in the fort with our sleeping bags listening to the rain on the cardboard and falling asleep to it. Thank you for sharing.

Grew up a farm somewhere in Georgia. Hay Barn full of square bales, built tunnels and caves inside. The ultimate of sleep quarters, perfect times I reckon.

This brings back memories when I was homeless I had no other option I was sleeping on side tracks in the wood in card board box a few times or a makeshift tent out of a piece of tarp I don't know how I survey hear in Ohio it gets so cold hear I did it for a couple years and finally got myself some help..God Shure kept me safe and got me thru it was especially a hard time on me I had just lost my dad too

Amazing how this held up better than the temu and shein tents. Soaked outside but you were completely protected and did not get wet like those ones. It looked so cosy too. Good old cardboard. Seen people make furniture out of cardboard even. Incredible stuff....

When I was a kid in the 60's a group of us made a fabulous camp. There were a few deep indents in the locals woods. We thought they might have been from bombs during WW2. We put a long log across the criss crossed with fallen sticks. Then we pulled up loads of wheat from the field next to the woods and strewed it across to make a thatched roof. We put a rug inside and some of our comics. we were as snug as anythibg when it rained! Happy days!

I've watched a good number of these videos. From reading the comments i agree that getting tips on camping is one result. But these videos serve another truly fine purpose. A result is anxiety and depression are lessened for many of us. And so frequent are childhood memories brought back of simpler times. I feel sorry for today's youth whose time is spent staring at a device. Whose car trips require a movie to get through. Yes I'm elderly and find the past is better in some ways than my present. Cardboard is a great insulator. On a forest fire back in the 90’s my issue tent was destroyed, it would be a few days before the got more so I made my own shelter using shipping boxes for the Hand tools. I used duct tape, 3 mil plastic trash bags (rain fly, and ground cloth) and para cord to hold it together, along with wooden pegs I made from sticks. Lived in it for the remainder of that fire, about three weeks. It was surprisingly comfortable.

This reminds me of myself when I was dragging a big cardboard box home to play in. I got tired so I crawled in and fell asleep right there on the sidewalk. I was about 9. That was about 1971. Best nap I've had so far my whole life.

I love youtube videos like this cos it makes me feel better that I'm not the only grown man in the world who sees a big cardboard box and thinks that would be coold to sleep in and make a camp!

Hello Andy! To use this tent without disappointment, you must take four precautions: - Before setting up your tent, place a rope taut between two trees, but three feet above the highest point of the tent. - Then place a tarp stretched over this rope, forming two roofs that will not touch the roof of the tent at any point. - A second canvas, a little bigger than the floor of the tent, should be placed on the ground, under the tent. It will serve to prevent the absorption of moisture by the cardboard on the tent floor. - It will also be important to make a small drain around the area protected by the larger canvas, to prevent the water coming from the roof from trying to go under the tent. Im 50yrs old and as a kid I remember making forts out of cardboard boxes. Mind you, I lived in the northeast and the winters would be brutal and yet, our forts, through wind, rain and snow, would never break down. They were actually warm too. Heck, I even recall two incidents where my friends and I went in and found homeless people living in them because they were warm as we were told 😂. Sadly, the only element that our cardboard box forts could never beat were the human elements. They would destroy everything we had built and made our own. Yeah, those were some good times. I remember as a kid probably 21 years ago now, my dad brought home this massive octagonal box that was used to hold styrofoam containers for cheeses at his work. It was really thick cardboard. Anyway I made a doorway in the side of it and for 2 weeks I slept in that box every night, even in rain. Although the roof started to cave in a bit (but it still held) the inside stayed completely dry. I'm sure I could've stayed in it a bit longer provided there wasn't much more rain, but the school holidays were finishing and the vanity wore off. :P Good memories! Actually I remember he brought home another of those boxes and put it on the deck, and I stayed in it for 40 hours as part of a charity thing while fasting. Except I failed that challenge when my dad started taunting me with pork ribs...

If that tent had a groundsheet underneath and a tarp above it, it probably would have stood up to the rain much better. It seems like a great idea for housing for people who have been impacted natural disasters. I live in Japan and we often have typhoons or earthquakes. People are forced to live in evacuation shelters, all crowded in together, and these tents offer some privacy. The Japanese architect Shigeru Ban is famous for designing shelters using cardboard although he usually uses cardboard tubes.

Great aren't they ? I live in Holland ... A lot of folks put a piece of plastic over the top once it's set up ! That way you'll keep dry even longer ! After all , it is CARTON ! And exposed to hard rain for a long time , it'll turn to mush . But overall , you held out well . Next time , try the plastic layer on top ! Who would have thunk it. :P Of all the toys and electronic gadgets my grandchildren have, they always go bonkers when I make them a cardboard house. They spend the rest of the trip at my home, playing in the boxes. It is a pretty amazing phenomenon. Even you seem to have a child like grin on your face. Awesome trip.

The first thing that crossed my mind was if it would be a good idea to coat the cardboard with wax like they do produce boxes. It would probably make it more impermeable without adding too much cost to the price.

This brings back memories of my younger days . A gang of us 9 to 15 year old s all went camping the older lads had the bright idea of building a cardboard box tent . We tacted it together with parcel tape chewing gum and string lol it was water proofed with axle grease it didn't leak but smelt a bit ....ah the good old days .

Love the cardboard tent demonstration. I'll use a tarp under and over the cardboard tent to prevent it getting wet and to keep my entrance dry. Its a win for winter camping with the insulation factor. Love your stove and heating element. Minimal items and wonderful camp experience. ❤❤

There's something primal and satisfying about creating a safe shelter. As kids, we made pillow forts and various outdoor forts, tents, tree houses, club houses, and other hideouts.

This was an interesting video away from the norm. I am a 79 year old former Royal Marine and lived out doors in many a Country, including Jungle, Desert and Jebels. I thought that the Cardboard Tent was an excellent idea. If the conditions had not been so extreme (heavy rain) I would imagine it would last a lot longer. I wondered why they had not covered it with some waterproof coating but then I realised they want these Tents for short term life and use, as you said. This will increase the Sales by a large margin. Loved your vid, I have subscribed and look forward to more.👍👍

My dad brought home a giant cardboard box from work with 10 rolls of duck tape when we were kids, covered it with tape and it lasted a full Scottish summer, this was in the 70’s when we still had seasons!

I love this concept. I’m sure one of the innovations we’ll see in the next few years will be tents made from something more rigid and weatherproof than fabric.

one thing not mentioned; the solid walls make your camp difficult to locate. (if that is your goal) great light coverage on the inside without illumination on the outside!

One of my favourite things, The cold and wind as it crashes around you as you sit snug in a shelter peeping out. I have a glass hatch in my office ceiling and the rain is beautiful when it taps.

Stayed on one in Holland for five days and was well up to the job. It started letting a bit of moisture in towards the end but was pleasantly surprised. Great video.

Waxed cardboard is surprisingly resilient and weather resistant. Used to use waxed heavy duty cardboard boxes as sleds, when i was a kid. Could use those for weeks, and they just held up.

I remember doing this at night as a kid, the box was slowly caving in from the rain so I decided to call it off. I turned on my flashlight and on the ceiling were spiders and slugs EVERYWHERE I was absolutely horrified.

This would be great in the winter. Cardboard is a great insulator given the baffles in between the sheets of cardboard. Three layers of it is also great to sleep on during the cold on dirt, rock, concrete, metal; ect because if you don’t have anything to lay on the cold will eat right through your sleeping bag. Another way I used to insulate when I was homeless was put up my cheap one person tent and throw blankets over the top of the tent then string up a tarp so they would never get wet. Having the bottom of the tent insulated with three layers of cardboard inside and then a blanket on top of it to lay on. It would be 32F outside and I would stay warm inside there just in a hoody. Also if you do get a one person tent I recommend getting a roof height in the tent that’s tall enough for you to sit up straight inside the tent so you don’t have to strain your neck while just sitting. But yeah, using the cardboard tent in this video would be amazing for homeless persons in cold weather if they also put up a tarp so it wouldn’t get wet and to protect it from the sun so extend the life of the cardboard tent. And no one is going to steal a cardboard structure from them.

Its always a treat watching you. You are always lighthearted and have a positive attitude towards every situation. I wold be desprate as soon as the rain would start but you stay positive and carry on. I admire this.

My family loves cardboard boxes, I used to get long boxes from the florist I worked at and when my children neices,nephews,had sleepovers, they all slept in boxes.Great fun for them.
