Great to see that you value train crew, i have seen many models that are 'self driven' and devoid of passengers. There are even amazing models but no signals, whereas i drove trains for network southeast and notice these things, bravo.

After a long time trying to find a full green end class 37 with the split headcode. Seeing you paint it yellow was a hard pill to swallow although it looks amazing regardless.

Thank you, modelling seems to ne in the detail, making each item tell a story in time, relevant to time and date of the layout. Precision in engineering is coming through. (Electrical!!).

Where independent cab lights are not an option I put some tape over the contacts at one end so that only the light works at the other cab with the driver figure as it looks far better than both being on....

I relly did enjoy this one as I do every one of your viedios I think that they are relly informative and give me some great idears for my layout

Bank holiday weekend in Tunbridge Wells.... I could have gone fishing, had a couple of pints at my local, or even worked extensively on my layout. But no, I found an episode on track ballasting here and was hooked. I've now watched every video from 93 through to 108 before starting at No. 1 through to here. Thoroughly addictive viewing! I was a second man (Drivers assistant) and eventually driver on the southern region. Not all loco hauled turns had a second man, but if light running (on the main line), or the crew were away all day, then a second man was required. I believe that on the Western region at least, if running in excess of 100mph, an assistant was also required, hence the HST being double manned. Light loco's were officially limited to 65mph, but I recall doing 108mph on a class 71 between Tonbridge and Ashford!. On fully fitted duties, the guard would sit in the rear cab, so loco models could reflect that. Thank you for so many valuable links. I've purchased many items through learning from you. Paul

The full green ends did, in my opinion, look way better but it's your layout so you choose.

Tip: If you're popping the head codes out with a screwdriver (Or anything that can be scratched for that matter) , place a thick rubber band (Like the one shown in the video) over the point of the screwdriver to prevent it scratching the backing...

A very good tutorial Charlie and as I have the excellent Kernow Class 41 Warships with split head codes. I would like to change them so that they aren't the same as the next person you know that has them. As you said to make them my own other than the standard factory shipped edition, with one end coded for freight and the other as a passenger. Talking of people the poor replaced driver is now up to his neck in brake fluid in the inspection pit, all because he was vertically challenged to drive his diesel. Maybe that is an insight as to where you will be working next Charlie if your down in the TMD Yard... LOL.

Hi, nice video on producing a bespoke 37. The precision labels for the head codes look great but very fiddly, does that set contain a variety of dot markers too. The loco looks great. I too have loads of locos to mess around with and maybe re-number, any ideas on how to do that would be greatly appreciated :-) I'll be watching for the Heljan head code video as thats a job I want to do as well. I also wondered if you knew what keeps the Bachmann sprung 37 buffers in place, I ordered some which arrived the other day but they don't seem to stay in place and I almost lost one when it fired itself across the floor. Charlie great video but please get yourself some plastic pry tools! also with airbrushing you really want a thin of a coat as possible, 4 very light coats are much bett than 2 thick ones, first coat should be so light you can hardly tell theres a colour. thick coats ruin the molded details, 4 ultra fine coats of paint will also be twice as hard wearing as they bond with eachother very well. lastly a very light dusting of clear satin lacquer on top

Is it useful to identify the ends, so all the bits are refitting into the same end broken remnants? And when separating the end, is a fine blade useful as a wedge? It keeps tension on the joint, whilst you work on the other side. Could the head code frames have been left in the nose, or did the glazing section require more spring from the frame so they had to be removed? Finally, how did you find out the unclip/break glue processes? Expensive trial and error? And, more important, thanks for a detailed explanation of this intricate collection of tasks. Regards, Tom

I don't know if this has been suggested before but in Halfords the sell a magnetic bowl ideal for small screw's.
