Hi Marianna, my hidden gems are 1. Beyond the infinite two minutes: really enjoyable and funny 2. Spring: Love is a monster: scifi with fantasy elements 3. The opening to Strange Days with almost peerless steadycam work was so innovative for it's time and many of the concepts of the movie were also ahead of it's time unless you were William Gibson fan. The cast was amazing with the recently deceased Tom Sizemore giving a career best performance. And as Marianne has warned her viewers, Strange Days has by far one of the most disturbing scenes in film history. On a surface level, it's really disturbing. But if one thinks about it using a virtual reality mindset, it's absolutely horrifying and sick and the scene probably killed it's box office potential. And I did see this one in the theaters twice during it's brief run.

You probably have watched it, the South Korean movie "The Call" (2020). A mixture of few genres really. Along with Sci-fi, you get thriller/horror. But for really obscure ones: ARQ (2016). Not the greatest movie, but a very solid time loop (I dig those), and a Japanese movie Tag (2015): This one very hard to describe, lol. The Japanese/Korean movies always fascinate me with their utter weirdness. Again, it is not amazing or something, but I think it is worth a watch.

Great video! Made me realize I need to expand my sci fi viewing quite a bit! A lot of my favorites tend to be the classics like 2001, Solaris, They Live, etc. I’ll recommend a couple that I think are pretty underrated. Repo Man (1984): The tone of it is pretty different from most of what you recommended, as it’s a comedy. But the humor in it is really off kilter and specific, which for me is refreshing for ‘80s movies. The sci fi bit is more secondary to hanging out with the characters but it’s fun. From Beyond (1986): Maybe a bit more horror than sci fi, but the science is more emphasized than Gordon’s other similar film, Re-Animator. I know you weren’t a fan of that one, but the tone of this one is a lot more serious/existential and less overtly comedic. I like it a lot more for that reason. Great Lovecraft adaptation. Color Out of Space (2019): Underrated Lovecraft movie I think. Again, the execution is more horror, but I love the sci fi ideas in this. To me it’s way more interesting for aliens to be this bizarre, incomprehensible trip experience than intelligent humanoid life forms. It’s got a crazy Mega Cage performance so it may not be for everyone, but I love it enough that I own it on blu ray.

Fantastic video - you sniped a few of my favorite underrated sci-fi (Predestination, Prospect, Vast of the Nigh, and Little Fish - just saw this a week ago - speechless), and added some new ones to the list. Some extremely under the radar sci-fi that I have to recommend: -Advantageous: simplistic, futuristic sci-fi that examines the increasing impact of age & beauty in society/career, and drastics steps to be taken to keep up. A simple, slow moving film, but nonetheless gripping. -The Endless: sometimes the lower budget shows, but I find it strikes a perfect tone in weaving together death cult horror, monster feature, and central sci-fi elements. I simply love it. -Marjorie Prime: another extremely minimalistic sci-fi feature that examines relationships, past and present, memories, and how therapeutic, robotic replacements of loved ones could impact our lives. -Mr. Nobody: One of the more moving, sweeping looks at life, past, future, alternative realities. Beautiful film. Other titles you've almost certainly heard mention of, but want to throw a nod to in case you haven't seen them yet: -Primer -Twelve Monkeys -Space Sweepers (May have seen a call-out on one of your videos, but just in case I'm misremembering) -The Lobster Thanks again for a fantastic video! I skipped the segment on Mirage and added it straight to my watchlist (generally my response to a time travel recommendation) and am extremly intrigued by Last and First Men - no idea if I'll like it, but looking forward to giving that a try!

I don't know if it would qualify as SciFi, but one of my favorite movies is "Perfect Sense" with Ewan McGregor and Eva Green. It's about a virus that causes people to lose their senses. It poses some very deep questions when you really think about it. A show I just discovered (not SciFi related) on Prime but was made in 2019, is called "Too Old to Die Young." It's directed by the same guy who made "Drive," with Ryan Gosling. VERY slow paced show with minimal dialog, but it has some beautiful cinematography and music. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but based on your reviews of other films and series, I think you would appreciate it. It reminded me a lot of the "No Country for Old Men" type of storytelling and ending.

Thank you for the list and thank you for including Strange Days - it's a stupidly good film and it's completely beyond my understanding how it isn't a cult classic nowadays (or maybe it is but for a very small part of the general audience). As for the other underappreciated movies I'd like to propose two more cyberpunk films. Both of them are obcectively not that good, but very atmospheric and somehow I have a soft spot for them. First one is Johnny Mnemonic (1995) with Keanu Reeves, based on the short story by William Gibson, who's the father of the entire cyberpunk genre. Second one is The Gene Generation (2007), a low-budget production based on a comic book, starring Bai Ling. I also have to mention Hardware (1990, sometimes known as MARK 13) - a sci-fi horror about a killing robot with Stacey Travis, Dylan McDermott and some great music.

That's it. I'm watching The Faculty tonight. Idk what I can recommend, you've seen everything haha. I just came back from watching Scream 6. Is there going to be a video review?

Similar subjects explored in these two: "The Man who Fell to Earth" (David Bowie as an alien), and "Starman" with Jeff Bridges.

I love this kind of videos, thank you so much for this one, it's so cool :) I love your lists. I haven't seen Little fish but while listening to you and seeing the images, I immediatly thought that this move looks like a lot as Perfect senses. A couple, a virus erasing human capatibilities, a love story... It's the same plot, just one about senses and the other about memory. It's a bit weird, and feel a lot like plagiarism. Anyway, I will watch it with pleasure, I'm quite curious to see how the story evolve. About Kathryn Bigelow, I also wish she makes more movies. I love her stuff, she is so talented. If the couple Bigelow Cameron lasted, we would have a powerful couple behind huge movies, and maybe more movies made by both of them. About recommendations, of course Perfect senses, this movie is so beautiful. Coherence, complete mind blown. I origins, so unique, as Another earth by the same director. The endless. Spectral.Moon.

I love time travel movies and Predestination is one of the best (the Endless is another one); it is absolutely logical and also surprising. And moving. Great performances.

I haven't watched it yet, but as you describe it, the premise for Vast of Night actually reminds me quite a bit of the first episode of The Outer LImits; The Galaxy Being. That was a great show at times -- more dedicated to sci-fi than the Twilight Zone was, even if TZ is more thematically consistent and has a lot more episodes to delve into.

i agree with the others who suggested COHERENCE. all you need to know: adults at a dinner party on an evening when a comet is traveling overhead - everything else is best discovered, just like the characters.

I agree with Oxygen and Predestination! Very underrated for some reason. Here are some more recent ones: After Yang (2022) Underwater (2020) Ad Astra (2019) Snowpiercer (2013) Dredd (2012) Chronicle (2012) Looper (2012) Source Code (2011) Monsters (2010) Mr Nobody (2009) I could literally go on forever...

Predestination is definitely the best movie in this list. After 60 years of watching scifi movies, it is the best time travel movie I have ever seen. It turns the paradoxes inside out again, and again, and again...and again. It is the ultimate mind (i'll clean this up.) twister movie. It is also one of the few movies that actually improves on the source material. Don't let anyone give you spoilers. You have to let the details unfold, then watch it again to make srue you caught everything.

Great list, Marianna. Faculty is childhood - great staple of the genre and one of the Robert's best . Predestination is truly mind-banding. Sarah Snook is great in this, sad she doesn't have a decent career after this. And Strange days one of the bleakest movies in sci-fi history. I would add Perfect Sense (2011) Movie about global pandemic, where people are start loosing their scenses. But which is more important than others? Also, Daybreakers is interesting sci-fi spin with supernatural speciesies (from directors of Predestination)

It's not a movie but is a limited run series. "Dark" is FANTASTIC and mind bending. It involves time travel and time loops that are handled superbly, complete with all the paradoxes they cause.

If you haven't seen Predestination, I can confidently tell you that something happens in this movie that you've never seen, or contemplated before. And as you see it coming, you'll be in disbelief. This movie kept me up at night in a good way, trying to unravel the incredible story.

Great list, Marianna... 😗 My Iist of lesser known sci-fi gems. Shows: Into the Night, Katla, Foundation, Archive 81, Osmosis, Ad Vitam, Shining Girls, Parrellels. Speaking of time travel: Synchronic. Great Netflix original movie.
