In the early 1970's as teens my sister would wear her jean jacket over dresses. I thought that was wrong. It turned out she was just way ahead of the rest of us with her style.

My entire wardrobe ( minus undergarments) has to fit in a 3 foot closet that is not a walk-in. I discovered that I can hang 7 dresses, 7 long sleeve tops, 7 short sleeve tops, 4 pairs of pants , 2 shorts, one jacket and one coat in this space . My everyday purse, evening clutch bag, and shoulder bag hang on padded hooks on the inside end wall. I have rain boots, dress boots, working sneakers, cute sneakers, two pairs of dressy shoes, two pairs of sandals, one pair of flats. I was shocked to see that everything I needed could fit easily within this small space.

Finally someone really acknowledging the issues around weather and temperature changes. Thank you for pointing out how different it is for Jennifer Scott when living in California ( France) All your explanation about how fall starts almost like summer and then ends quite cold….this is the most relatable video I have seen. Thank you for keeping it ‘real’.

Paris in autumn and spring is super temperamental, with the same fluctuations as in the video (from 5C/40F in the morning to 20C/70F during the day, if it is sunny), so maybe that's not rly the best example. But being mindful of your own circumstances and where you live is absolutely the way to go, as the OP said. (:

I started Project 333 six weeks ago. I thought I would have trousers and tops, but in fact I ended up with 12 dresses. We had very varied weather in April, but I generally wore a black poloneck under the dresses when it was cold, and it worked really well. For the first couple of weeks I kept thinking of things I could add in from my spare pieces, but resisted the temptation, and now it feels fantastic to get up in the morning, put a dress on and leave for work. My other problem, besides too many clothes, is that I have a lot of what we call handbags, but you guys call purses! I challenged myself to use the same bag every day for a month, which I did. It felt great because I used to change my bag nearly every day to match my outfit, then I couldn't remember which bag had my keys in, etc. Far too many decisions to make that early in the morning! This has now made me realise that I actually prefer a tote bag, that I can put everything in that I need all the time, and just pick it up and leave the house, as opposed to a small handbag that just about holds my phone and a lipstick. I am exactly half way through the 3 months, and know already that there's no going back for me. Now I just have to decide what to do with all the other clothes I own!

I pretty much have a very curated thrift store from which I shop daily. Almost all the pieces are ones I truly love (bring me joy…ha). I just edited with my sister and purged 25% of my wardrobe…mostly because of worn outness or fit. I have some pieces that I’ve had for years waiting in the wings like an understudy. Waiting for the perfect coordinating piece. And to think I almost purged those items two years ago….this, my dears, is a subtle sign of hoarding. My sister traveled across the Atlantic to help me help her not have to deal with this when I die. She didn’t see the basement bins…..mwahahahaha! Here’s to a long and healthy life sister dahling.

One key point I have found in trying to ‘discover my style’ is that it can have a very different emphasis depending on the season. No one told me that. I thought I needed to find my style ( even if technically my style is a couple styles combined (.very common) . I have one dominant style and 2 touches of other styles. This holds true overall but the dominant, secondary and third style changes based on season and practicality. For example, in the summer my dominant style will be more ‘Romantic’ ( feminine) because I wear more dresses because they are more comfortable and cool in hot weather. My secondary style is ‘casual’ ( natural) because I wear more linen and because I need to be more active and get dirty, messy. Going to the beach sitting on the ground or on public picnic tables etc. But in winter, linen isn’t a great fabric and it’s just hard to wear more ‘natural’ ( a little boho style ) items. In Winter, my dominant style is still ‘romantic’ but my secondary is ‘classic’ …jeans, sweater, jacket…it’s just easier. In both Fall and Spring my dominant style changes to ‘classic’ then casual with still a bit of ‘romantic’. Picking these three styles ( from KZfaq video with Daria Andronascou from ‘wonder wardrobe’) and putting different emphasis in different seasons has made building my wardrobe so much easier. Just my experience ( maybe a tip) for all the other four season friends out there trying to ‘find your style’.

We have very distinct 4 seasons. So we really need cool, cold, ver cold, hot, very pieces. I dislike switching out my clothes each season, but it is necessary due to the space the sweaters take in the winter. There are moments I wear the same items over and over, but then I go through times where I were all the things. I had weight lost surgery in July 2022 so I had to purchase all new clothes from underwear to jackets. Hoping I don't have to purchase clothes now for the next 5 to 10 years as I have lots of options now.

I create my wardrobe around what I call uniform. I am a jeans person so no dresses, skirts or jumpers. My dress up outfit is always black dress slacks, you can do anything with the top to include blouses, sweaters, t shirts or vest. I try to keep year around looks and change of cold season means layers. I usually have 2-3 dress tops for my going out or church along with black slacks. Rest is interchangeable and regular daily wear. I live in area where more casual wear is acceptable for dress up, church or parties. So mostly jeans and tops layered different ways. My one splurge and extras is cardigan sweaters they are a favorite piece and I allow extras into my capsule wardrobe. Thanks love this video ❤️

You have had the best style for so long, and I'm so glad you are showing it off to the world. I always think WWED when I get ready for work or an event (AKA What Would Erika Do)! I have started an adapted capsule wardrobe for work and it is so helpful. I have found that my joggers can adapt to both work and home/mom life. It is all about what you pair them with on the bottom (e.g., booties, mules, tennis shoes, etc.) and top (e.g., sweaters, collared blouse, sweatshirt). The ones I have come to love are by Rachel Zoe. I have two pair in my capsule (black and dark green).

I still work in an office but I'm slowly realizing I don't need so many blouses, dresses, shorts and pants for my job. Where I live we have different seasons so I need spring/summer and fall/winter clothing. As I'm getting older, I realized the more clothing I have, the more space it takes up. I have a tiny closet that I do a seasonal switch with my clothes. I also just realized what type of jeans I like to wear and feel comfortable in🤣🤣. I have been donating lots of clothes that I have not been wearing which was taking up a lot of space in my closet. I also had bags of clothes that I was not wearing which I donated all of that. I'm on a journey of downsizing my clothes, only buying if I need something. I'm also shredding my papers because that also takes up a lot of space. I feel more organized with the clothes that I kept and it's now easier for me to put an outfit together. I also changed my plastic hangers to slim hangers to have more space in my closet. I use wooden hangers for my coats.

I tried having all of my basics be black, grey, and white with my scarves and cardigans adding the color, but when I let go of that and started adding color nearly everything that I gravitated towards was navy, plum, and forest green, with brown as a neutral. I thought it was funny how all of those colors go well together and easily interchange with each other, I didn’t try to do that, and I didn’t even realize that my whole wardrobe ended up being those 4 colors until a couple years later.

It's so funny how things like that can sneak up on us! I love that though. Basically you created a color palette for your wardrobe. I have a background in graphic design so you've got my wheels spinning now. People could easily use a color palette generator to create wardrobe color palettes and build closets from that. Love it! Also, those colors you mentioned sound beautiful!

Okay. I’m commenting again because I’ve watched this video like 10 times. I’m really thinking I have ADHD as I keep coming back and picking up new points. I, like you, totally rely on layering. Mountain living just dictates that. Because of you, I’ve re-fallen in love with my Jean jacket. It JUST fits, which means I need to stop eating crap so I don’t have to buy another. That jacket just goes with everything. So does my Irish knit cardigan th at my mom gave me when I was 16. Yes, I’m going on 52 and I’m still wearing it. It can work with a dressy outfit (with dress and fancy shoes) or with Levis and Chucks- mine aren’t real all-stars, but they’re pink and I love them. You are sooooo helpful with outfits and putting them together. You and I, I think are kindred spirits. Oh, and one more thing, keep putting your socks and shoes on without holding onto anything. It a great indicator of hip strength, balance, and flexibility. You blink and that ability is gone, so keep it up. Way to go!! xo

I loved your video! You did a really fantastic job of explaining a capsule wardrobe. I will be watching it again for sure. I'm a new subscriber and plan to watch back all the videos you've created. It's a lazy Sunday for me, so what better way to spend it. So off topic from today's video, but relevant to your other videos... I've always had an organized clean home, even when my daughters were little (20 and 16 now). I enjoy looking for something to declutter. Lol. I'd say over the last 5 years, my longing to lead a simple, slower life has really consumed my thoughts. I enjoy having a boring life too, having extra time to look out the window and be lost in thought. I've been a stay-at-home mom since my youngest was born. It may seem hard during every stage of motherhood. But I'm truly finding this age the most difficult...helping them navigate bigger life decisions while giving them independence. It can be worrisome. So my point is at this stage I absolutely need a simple life so I have the mental capacity to offer my daughters the best guidance. One last comment...I love that you've included a scripture quote in your bio. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 All the best to you, from 🇨🇦

Thank you Tania for sharing this! I was recently listening to an interview with a woman named Erica Komisar, in which she talked about the importance of being available and making time for both very young children (first three years) and adolescents (ages 9-25). Basically both are sensitive periods for brain development, secure attachments, and supporting emotional well being. From what I learned your instinct to slow down to ensure you’re present and have capacity to support their more complex challenges is exactly right. I think it’s such a blessing to your family that you’re doing that. I wish our cultures celebrated the sacrifices of parenthood more. Also, your quiet Sunday plans sounded amazing! My daughter and I watched a Natalie Bennett video together on Sunday and it was so calming and peaceful. I loved having a wholesome KZfaq channel that I could share with her. All the best to you and your family!

@papertownhome Thank you for taking the time to reply. I've noticed your comments are always thoughtful and genuine with everyone. I'm sure I'm not the only person who appreciates that. As my daughters have grown, people have often asked me if I plan to go back to work. The answer is always no. One thing I know for sure is that when a teenager wants to open up and talk about important subjects, they want to talk in that very moment. They don't want to wait for the parents to get off work, have more time, have fewer distractions, more energy, etc. I'm grateful that I have been available immediately for some hard conversations with my girls. My advice or perspective isn't always welcomed, lol, but at least I'm able to give it. I look forward to more of your videos. Enjoy the week ahead!

I doubt I'll ever have a 10- 30 item wardrobe, but I definitely intend to downsize. I need the space in my closet! You have some cute things but most people won't be comfortable putting on that many layers.

Congrats on your progress with decluttering! I think clothing can be one of the hardest areas to minimize and it takes a lot of testing and experimenting. Oh yes, Paris can definitely get cold and rain is plentiful. In the video, I was talking about range of temperatures experienced there throughout the year versus climates that have more fluctuation, especially during transitional seasons like fall. Some of my audience has pretty wild temperatures they have to respond to, such as 60 degree fluctuations in a single day. Whereas Jennifer L. Scott, creator of the "ten-item wardrobe," predominantly lived in more mild climates - Paris and Los Angeles. I still think her capsule approach is great, but I like to encourage folks to always consider their unique circumstances and make adaptations accordingly. If you have any ideas on how to accommodate a 60-degree temperature swing in a single day, I think we're all ears here! :) Thanks for watching!

Ok I had to come back and tell you I did it. I still think I have too many “extras” but I did narrow it down.

You have such a good figure so added a black belt & brown belt your dresses the straight ones. Or a crossbody bag brown and black if you don't already have them. I found that with 3 children I had too always have small snacks on for us all. Hard candy or granola bars.

You're very sweet to say that :) I do have a crossbody bag and I'm such a fan! And, I agree, the snacks are essential. I'm always plying my kids with food and water.

Yes! Those are the Allbirds Tree Runners. I’ve had them for two years and they’ve held up well. You can also find a link in the video description, if that’s helpful. 🤗

Thanks! Unfortunately, I bought them over 10 years ago at Anthropologie. The brand is J.Shoes but I couldn’t find anything similar when I looked online.

It’s from Uniqlo about three years ago. I looked for it but they don’t have anything similar now. Total bummer!

This is so hard to do with different aesthetics! Im struggling. For example, i love this purple velvet mini dress and want it part of my rotation. Really, i wear leggings underneath and a black cardigan on top. Cant wear a tan cardigan, wouldnt match. I have other bohemian/90s piece’s that i have to dress around the piece and cant go with everything. Definitely going to be guilty of outfit repeating lol. Oh well.

I really like your personality and ideas. I wonder why you choose such large dresses when you have such a lovely figure. Is it more comfortable? Is it just what you prefer? I'm not criticizing. I'm just curious.

Thanks Nancy! It’s not obvious on camera but the wider dresses mask that I carry extra weight in my stomach. So, I feel more comfortable having them looser. 🥰 Plus, a little easier for moving around and chasing little kids.
