Kingdom Death: Monster is a fully cooperative tabletop hobby game experience. Set in a unique nightmarish world devoid of most natural resources, you control a settlement at the dawn of its existence. Fight monsters, craft weapons and gear, and develop your settlement to ensure your survival from generation to generation.
Campaign System
Embark alone or with up to 3 friends (5 with game variant) on a 5-30-lantern-year campaign, with each year consisting of a cycle of hunt, showdown, and settlement phases. The settlement phase is an intricate civilization building game in which you spend very limited resources to build buildings, research new technologies, train your warriors, and set up your strategy for survival. During the hunt, you'll encounter a series of stories in a "choose your own adventure" style journey through various events and encounters. Finally, when you meet the monster you're pursuing, you'll engage it in an a massive arena-style battle where only one party is going to survive. If your party lives, you'll be able to bring the spoils back home to use in expanding your settlement.
Monster AI System
Each of the 7 monsters included are controlled by their own pair of decks that scale to 3 levels of difficulty (except for the final encounter, which has only 1 level and it's HARD!). Every encounter, even with the same monster, is highly variable and no two showdowns will resolve the same way. Players will have to plan their gear and keep their minds sharp to prevail.
Gear System
In Kingdom Death: Monster, survivors will craft gear from resources earned from defeating monsters or found on their hunt. Each survivor has a 3x3 gear grid. Selection and arrangement of your gear cards is critical, as many provided bonuses and activate special rules when aligned correctly.
Story Event System
40+ Story Events plus over 100 hunt encounters will shape and guide your campaign. Story Events detail important evolutions in your civilization, introduce new monsters, and provide rich detail for your campaign. Some will trigger automatically as you progress through the campaign, but most will be entirely based on choices players make.
Story Events cover everything from setting up and fighting a monster to key events that happen within the overall story. Some are triggered directly from the timeline and others from choices you make in game.

Your section about lifetime rerolls being able to be used multiple times on the same roll has been incorrect since some time last year. The official FAQ was updated *Under what circumstances can a survivor use lifetime rerolls/reroll tokens? Can a roll result that has already been rerolled be rerolled again?* Survivors with a lifetime reroll/reroll token can spend it to reroll any single roll result that they are present for. This includes any dice that survivor rolls (e.g.- a d10 roll for the survivor, a d10 roll for the monster while the survivor has the monster controller tile, a hit location roll, etc.), and any dice that survivor is deemed "present" for according to narrative consensus. Players are recommended to suggest that a survivor is "present" only when they have sufficient narrative cause to do so. *After a roll result has been rerolled, the new result must be kept and cannot be rerolled again*

@@Quackalopeyup yup. All the comments from Adam about lifetime rerolls are multiple years old and stood as gospel until this official clarification. It really changes the way SotF rerolls are used. There isn’t a real benefit in saving the entire settlement’s rerolls to avoid cracks in the ground 1, 1-3 Gorm climate, plague, or the myriad of other terrible events. Because their value is lower, it’s more justifiable to use them on lower value things. It’s a controversial, but imo welcome nerf to SotF. PtY is good, but why would you ever pick it when you could fix the majority of the game’s bad luck instead?

Yea, its a big adjustment and kinda feels like a post launch nerf IMO . . . however, probably a needed one I guess.

@@QuackalopeThey could and probably should have just replaced the SotF card in the legendary card pack 1.6 update instead of burying this nerf in an FAQ. (I haven’t played in a year and don’t remember if they did that). Though, this game is no stranger to errata. Campaigns of Death is gonna change a ton about the game… whenever that comes out

A year ago I owned 0 KDM. Now, KDM 1.6, GCE, sunstalker, dragon king, slenderman, and flower knight. This is largely thanks to your coverage and encouragement for the game, which I have been watching and enjoying for the last few years. What a fantastic game. Easily my favourite tabletop experiences of 2023 and will likely remain this was for years to come, though it can be complex and it is super easy to miss rules. Thanks, Quackalope!

Thank you so much for this wonderful overview of everything I did in my first campaigns :D Will be rewatched the next time I start again ^^ Still think the game is not difficult per se but interactions are complex and possibilities are abundant. Also love the rulebook and think it is one of the best in gaming. Still the slew of isolated keywords can be confusing. Even more so if you are not a native English speaker. So glad for the living FAQs and the great community :D Happy explorations and looking forward to your next Dreamkeeper/KDM session :)

Wow! This was a really well done video. Content was awesome but I'm amazed you both rattled off all that detail without editing. Also, greta to see Shira in there 50%. Things I learned - Rule 1 on Dodging after attack... What? I have to rewind and listen to that, and then check the rule book... and then maybe ignore : ) I bought 1.6 on Black Friday 2022 so after painting only finished my first campaign last year. I was surprised that we won first time! It wasn't easy but we did it. One thing I learned in retrospect is that we were in some lantern years doing multiple Innovation selections!?! (not sure how bad that helped us out - I will find out in my next campaign).

Just work together :) You can do the "hand out resources" method - but often that makes the game much harder.

i just caused a very difficult game for my new players because I mixed up 2 rules, first you roll on the table of death for damage after you fill in the heavy box, not on the heavy box and second you only get knocked down when you pencil in the heavy box and not with damage after that unless the table of death roll says so

I just learned some time ago that the nemesis Encounters aren´t Special Showdown, it was my big mistake for a whole campaign. The rules for special showdown are written in the middle of the rules for nemesis encounters, but the two never actually refer to each other.

It's kind of a cool home rule to make all nemesis fights Special showdows so you get extra hunts.

One that we played wrong for quite a bit was "record and archive" and bringing out resources, we were also marathon playing so kept cards out on the table. We noticed once we played the Flower Knight and built a satchel, allowing you to bring out an archived resource, so we were bringing out fresh acanthus alot, haha. I want to get one of those chess time things you have to punch to indicate whos turn it is, esp now that we have 5 characters to control. Also another one that i really have to stop and brain burn on is when a survivor can stand, ugh gets me everytime. Also are you sure a lantern 10 always produces a wound? Say you have 2 strength, but the monsters toughness is 15 and you dont hit a critical wound card, thus your toughness is only 12, wouldnt that be a failure?
