Savage vs Steamboat doesn't seem to translate well for the fans not old enough to remember the 80's for some reason, while Flair vs Steamboat does. But yeah, absolutely flawless. Didn't even go 15 minutes, and it's just perfect from front to back. I think its lack of length might have something to do with it.

Agreed Thanksgiving McDaniels! Steamboat Vs Savage worked because it bent rules of wrestling matches and PPV's way back then. Wrestling evolved every decade or so since then, so yeah reckon its hard to translate for today's generation of fans unless they understood how Pro wrestling was back in the mid 1980's. Flair and Steamboat however, yeah i agree they had way more matches than Savage and Steamboat did. And fans saw them grow and change over time moreso. Today fans can look up their matches on WWE Network which spans far more time over the years, than the Savage and Steamboat one's did (their feud lasted from; 1986/87 basically).

Botches are fine if the storytelling and flow of the match goes well. Look at a ton of great matches that had botches Ciampa vs. Gargano: Gargano's reverse frankensteiner botch Zayn vs. Owens Battleground: Zayn's flip botch War Games had some botches.

As much as I like punk cents that match sure as hell didn’t change the landscape of wrestling. Ratings buy rates stock merchandise didn’t improve nor did the company change in really any significant way because of that match.

No, only a small portion of wrestling fans are obsessed with skills, those matches are BORING to many other fans, just because you see yourself as a wrestling fnatic doesn't mean fans who only care about hype shouldn't have a say, different group of fans want different things, Therock never had a full set of skills like Curt Hennig or any of the Harts, but that didn't stop him from being one of top 5 most popular wrestler ever because he is charismatic like a superhero, SCSA has the nessesary skills sure but he was never even considered until he simple everything down and start "bar fight" opponent. HBK is special, he is one of the unique few who can satisfy fans from all angles, he is very skilled, he can switch between different fighting styles for different opponents, he sells better than almost anyone, and he always try to top himself doing new things never lazy, oh and the most important thing, he is so good with the mic, if really think about any other person who can do everything, Ric Flair maybe the only one.

Sean Cone thank you. I always say this and everybody always just says WM25. Bad Blood was their best by far and I think WM26 was better than 25 cause it had more at stake. Career vs streak something was ending so it was a moment no matter what. Plus 25 had that huge botch. You can say it wasnt their fault but at end of day it's still a big fuck up and I don't think a match said to be best ever can have that big of mistake.

I absolutely agree. I even think Hogen vs Andre should have been on the list. Of course it's not a technical masterpiece but it was good enough in comparison to the wrestling being shown in the early 80s and considering that both Hogan and Andre were powerhouses and not thechnical wrestlers. The match lived from the story of the face Hulk Hogan overcoming the undefeatable Andre the Giant and they got that spot on. OK I was a kid when I've seen the tape of the match, but I was immediatly captivated by it and Hogan was like a superhero when he managed to slam Andre. That is something they very rarely manage to do due to how they book their wrestlers today.

I actually watched WM3 recently for the first time in awhile, and I was kinda impressed with how good Andre/Hogan actually was. I was born in 79, so I should've been a huge Hulkamaniac, but for some reason I thought he was dull and the "Hulking up" thing was stupid and predictable. But for what that match was, a guy with zero interest in work rate against Andre once he could hardly move? They did kind of knock it out of the park with that being considered.

I watch the Andre the Giant documentary and then suddenly I found myself watching classic wrestling matches... 80000 people two of the biggest names in wrestling that also happen to be very good technical wrestlers with pretty much Flawless match.

Credit to Sasha and Bayley: they pretty much revitalized the women's division.

Savage and STeamboat was so amazing but new fans wont understand why. SOme do, but others will call it overrated because it doesen't have THIS IS AWESOME chants and over the top commentary. What it did have was two of the best workers ever going at it in a tremendous rivalry, it featured psychology, it featured prestige it featured non-stop action, Youy felt the hate, You were emotionally iinvested and in less then 15 minutes got 19 kick-out's and a pace that was unheard of at the time. Seriously back then matches featured headlocks for a good five minutes and maybe a punch to the "bread basket". I mean, go watch the match before Savage-Steamboat Butch Reed vs Koko B Ware. Watch the workrate in that then watch Savage Steamboat back to back, That was pretty much the best way for a NEW fan to appreciate just what magic that made. It is so epic, the show of the crowd and the night sky with Savage on the top giving the elbow is so iconic, I get goosbumps, and not in a contrived OMG WWE trying to go over the top with Undertaker looking like he's going to cry when Michaels kicks out type of way,.

I understand a true classic in your right some of those are the best but it's not an understatement to say both Shawn Michaels and undertaker Tie with number one best match full time

I call the WM25 match the greatest of all time as well, but it's totally defensible to go with the first HIAC too. It does have some things going for it that WM25 didn't have. There wasn't much story leading to the WM25 one, and HIAC was the total opposite. The actual structure hadn't been seen before. The bump HBK took while hanging from the top down through the table was completely fucking mind-blowing and over the top at the time (Mankind completely overshadowed it the next summer, and since then lots of people have done similar stuff). The debut of Kane obviously. And aside from all that, it was just laid out perfectly. Incredible match. But I would say WM25 was a little perfecter. Didn't have the explosions though. The HIAC would be the big summer blockbuster movie with an enormous budget that's actually great, and the WM25 match would be, like, Pulp Fiction or whatever your preferred non-CGI, no explosions movie is.
