Stand behind me as we look out over the ocean, and follow along with a "from behind" view.
This is also Part 2 of "How do you start learning Tai Chi?" Is it best to learn a traditional Tai Chi routine step by step? Or should you first get a book or dvd and study the basics? In this video, I'll show what I believe is the best way for beginners to start learning Tai Chi (taiji).
By the way, I've made two versions of this video. I've gotten quite a few comments from viewers who find it hard to follow the Tai Chi session from the front - so I've also made a version you can follow from the front! To watch that version, click here: • How to START Learning ...

Thank you David! My first attempt at Tai Chi left me trying to figure out how to "mirror" and move the arms and legs simultaneously. I watched this video from the "back" and was able to follow! Really appreciate this video! Thank you for thinking outside the box.

Seeing the back view was helpful, and we got a change to repeat the sequence! Thank you. It's new to me.

David, I love the way you are teaching me. I am very new to Tai Chi and so I'm taking it slowly, which is also something I am getting from your teaching the need to slow down! my life has aways run at 100 miles an hour. I recently retired and this coincided with Covid-19 lockdown. However the good that came from the pandemic for me, is that my intention to look at and possibly learn Tai Chi can be achieved, I mean I am not longer procrastinating ! I am currently on day 3. I love the easy to follow sessions. thank you Jean Ross in the UK

Great visual instructions, David. I'm 72 and had my first lesson last week but once home on my own I found it difficult to coordinate my feet from one stance to another. I found your videos and because of your very clear instructions I 'feel the flow'. Thank you so much. I will now compliment my lessons by following all the movements in your videos.

That was amazing. I feel refeesheshed. I really like your step by step videos, showing footwork and breathing and arms and hands. The ground up approach! ☯️💜

I really like the idea of learning the flow and feeling of movement first to help relax and come into it on my own, and then learning the form or correct steps first. I do find it a lot easier to follow you from behind, it’s less confusing and gives me more absolute to really focus on the flow rather than those specifics of mirroring you accurately. Thank you kindly for what you do, and I’m happy to have found this, you, to help teach me. Sending love and light 💟☯️☮️

Even though I'm an Asian and have looked at dozens of Taichi videos on youtube, I found it so difficult, until I found you, Mr. Ross! The rearview (with a little side angle just like what you did in this video) is surely the one and only one that a beginner like me can follow! And I have to say i love the beach view of course, and the music which is so calming yet contemporary so all are a great incentive for me to keep learning! Thanks and highly recommended!

@@DavidDorianRoss I find the rearview or with mirror will help me learn faster without frustration. Would there be a playlist that contains all the rearview videos so I am more motivated to keep learning and practicing? :p I know... excuse will kick in sometimes especially for something that calls for persistence, haha....

Dave I felt the music was much calmer than your normal music and that I felt made it more relaxed. Thank you for filming yourself from the rear coz it does make a difference particularly if you are learning it for the first time. I got 1 important question now: can you show me other styles please? I just want to see if there are other styles that affect your body differently

Hi! I love this video and do it everyday...do you have any other videos showing from the back? I can't seem to follow when you are facing forward. :( I bought your video for exercising via Tai Chi, but can't keep up because it is all from the front. So sad...was looking forward to expanding from this 10 minutes! Thanks!!

Nice work out. 2 moves new to me, a point of interest; where in traditional TC do these moves, that are not part of one of the forms, fit in? i.e. are they used as part of a warm up... Some audio distortion right at the end so I couldn't hear your last comment.
