Three years ago, I had just gotten out of a very toxic relationship. One where I quite literally felt my voice taken away from me- there was only room for one singer between us, and it had to be him. So I was quiet for a long time, even though I loved to sing. Once I finally got out of that relationship, I started singing here and there again, trying to gain the confidence back up to really sing loud and proud again. A year after, I had surgery on my feet, where I basically wasn't able to walk for nearly a year. I spent the entire time every single day doing this exercise, amongst others. And this past November, I performed at the Whisky A Go Go with my band. Keep going. No matter what. Don't let anybody stop you.

I tore my left vocal chord and my speech therapist told me to do these warm ups 3x per day. I hope it helps. Lip roll is hard!!

A few months ago, I auditioned for the musical Chess at my local theatre expecting an ensemble role. I was shocked when I got called back for Svetlana/Florence. My acting has always been better than my singing - which wasn’t awful, but was quite poor - so I was very nervous to go in for these two singing-heavy roles. I always used these warm ups in the hope of improving my vocals and landing one of the roles. To my surprise, I was cast as Florence!!! I have now finished the show, it was a brilliant experience and I was nominated for a local award for the performance. I would not have strengthened my voice enough to perform the likes of ‘Nobody’s Side’ and ‘Anthem - reprise’ without these! Thank you Jacobs Vocal Academy! Thanks to your warm ups, I had one of the best performance experiences I’ve ever had!

doing this every day until my audition for college in April: day 1: doing this right before another audition, using water to stay hydrated. hopefully within a week or two I can hit more high notes for my songs. day 2: using this for recording audition tapes for another program. fingers crossed!

Remember to drink water while your practicing! And it’s alright to take a small break don’t strain your voice! Sucking on candy or cough drops can help sooth your vocal chords and it’s starting to feel scratchy! Your doin great keep up the good work!!!!!

The purpose of the lip roll is to train yourself to control your air flow. If you blow too little or too much air, the lip roll will collapse. It's a great way to tell if you need to work on the consistency of your breath support.

I have done this for almost 1 year and now everything becomes much better and my vocal start changing

Dear Jacob, I am a disabled person who spends most of my life flat on my back. As a former musician, I never had a voice but dearly wanted to sing. I honestly thought that it would be impossible, until I found your channel and decided to give it a try. Like many of the hysterically funny comments, I made dogs bark and cats cry, but it’s now been four months and am spectacularly above abominable and gradually approaching near mediocrity. However, with dedication and practice everyday, for once in my life there’s a very real possibility that I’m gonna pull this off, and actually be able to really sing! I want to thank you, from the bottom of my heart for giving an extremely difficult life a renewed sense of purpose and hope. For anyone else who might be disabled, or even looking for something new that they once thought impossible, please believe me, practice these lessons and exercises on a regular basis and you will see results within just a week, after a month or two, you will even believe what can happen. To all the people commenting “I’m a horrible singer even after doing these”, vocal warm-ups don’t necessarily change your voice, it’s to get your body and vocal chords warmed up and ready to sing. However, there are many vocal warm-ups meant to improve certain aspects of singing 😊
