Yo, the very first tip isnt even true because some people prefer their nose and tail edges duller for butters and so its not as reactive on the snow. Idk dawg i dont think thats a begginer thing i do that too and i do it to keep them dull.

Stomp Pad. This is a huge game changer, most problems for getting off the lift derives from not being able to keep your unstrapped foot on the board, the stomp pad solves that problem.

Especially steep lift hills or non-detachable lifts. Smash your back foot against the back binding on the front or back edge depending on which way you wanna go and just ride it out 👍

The tip about not bombing down the hill and start ollies and carving is huge. I was one of the people that just bombed down the hill and I wasn’t progressing at all so I slowed down and started getting more playful with the board. Huge part of progressing in the beginning stages.

I actually think heading to slightly steeper, SOFTER snow when beginning may be a good tactic. The greens and blues can be packed and hard and the flatter the slope, the more vague/subtle being on an edge is. Not to mention there's more traffic and possibility of running into someone. My first two trips out I stayed on the bunny hill and greens and fell super hard super often (which obviously is normal). My third time out was with a buddy of mine who's been on the mountain his whole life and he took me straight to the top and I had an infinitely better time. Fell just as much but it didn't hurt so damn bad and was way more fun and less stressful..

Seriously - more trafficked slopes are usually WAY harder when you fall. The snow is likely more compacted and the fall can be worse due to less downward momentum (as long as you're going the same speed)

1:40 This is so true and this needs to be expressed more. Just because you can nail that black run, doesn’t mean the other less difficult runs are off limits to you. Most of the time you will also find people like yourself on the less difficult runs just trying to practice something. Don’t feel embarrassed. This is the same for the terrain park, if it takes you three times down the terrain park to actually start hitting tricks, then so be it. You are just being cautious of your surroundings and remember that everyone you see doing jumps or doing black runs started just like you!

This is a genuinely great video, super useful tips. My tip would be in relation to progression, it can be very frustrating when you're trying to get better and its not happening as fast as you might like, but make sure that you're still having fun at the end of the day, otherwise its not really worth it!
@donnybailey2453

Obviously different strokes for different folks, but imo I would suggest taking the first day to solely get comfortable on the board and on your edges (chill on the bunny hill). I tried greens without ever being in a board before and I was just extremely frustrated the entire time and it made me almost quit. That being said, once you are comfortable and can stop on your edges, get out of the bunny hill ASAP because it’s going to be easier to learn on the actual runs!

Good tips there 👍 Best instructor tip ever : always wear padded shorts & knee pads! Saves much pain and as a bonus its much warmer sitting or kneeling in the snow. Dianese armoured shorts are my preference. Back protector too if you're spending a lot of time in the park. And a lid obviously. 👨‍🚀

Tip 7 needs a to be a little more clarified. As an instructor, I have had several people come out with the wrong size board, bindings that are not properly adjusted, and bindings that are not great for people just starting out. Proper size is important and the gear does matter. Bindings that only wrap your foot but not your toes can cause your toes to want to lift up instead of being locked down like the top of your foot. It is important that your heel and toes never lift up from the board because those points are what allow you to have a solid connection with your edges. Spending more money on better equipment will help improve your riding because you get what you pay for. All things for your snowboard are for performance. Buy a shitty set of bindings, have a shitty connection with your board and ultimately a shitty time.
@TheSpadre
@TheSpadre 3 жыл бұрын
When I was learning how to ski, I would take the easy way down followed by a run that was just above my ability or just at the top of it. Then I'd follow up with the easy run, and then a moderately challenging run. That formerly moderately challenging run would then be pretty easy. Then repeat the process. I've taken people from first timers to riding any groomed run on the mountain, (Starfire at Keystone) in 3 days or less. Skiers and snowboarders. Not sliding turns and being able to stop anywhere are keys to progression.

My girlfriend got seriously injured from getting off of a steep lift. She had a lesson that morning and the instructor DIDN'T TEACH THEM how to get off of a lift........which is extremely easy if you know what to do. Vid on that. Also!! Tip #6 @4:00 is the most important thing about snowboarding. 10000% 🍻

Check out craigslist, offer up, Facebook market place, 5miles, let go and other apps like that. I picked up a sweet burton clash and bindings in fairly new condition for $120. It was an older board but clean and rides really good. One of my favorite boards.

While I understand point 7 (gear) I don't fully agree with it.... It's true that you won't become X-games level snowboard just because you bought new gear but new gear can help you advance your skills and help you feel more comfortable on snow...

You should do a 10 mistakes for beginners park only. Also any tips for avoiding a sore neck after crashes. I had ate it on a rail twice in a row yesterday, and then a few weeks ago I cought a heel side edge trying to spray some powder to rider through. Both times no injury except a sore neck the next morning.

Okay so question, I’ve gone snowboarding I’d say around 10 times now and I just purchased a board for myself... I got onto the mountain the other day with it and it was so slippery 😂 I guess I’m used to rentals being a bit heavier and not as slick, but how the hell do you snowboard on such a slick board?! I tried toe carving and my board went out from under me and I face planted in the snow *yay* 😅

Personally even tho I go to the top of the mountain everytime I snowboard. A good tip is to warm up on the easier trails. Especially if you live in a place like Cali where snowboarding is once a year thing

I’m learning too, but what has helped me is going on steeper terrain (as long as you are comfortable where you are at) it’s easier to lock your edges in the mountain when it is steep.

Big tip froM me: If your core strength and leg muscles are not the strongest and have no condition hit the gym or start to workout these areas if you are going to snowboard for more than just a few hours. Muscles get tired and your knees have to catch impacts.

i agree about the ruddering issue! Controversially though I think its not that much of a problem/issue. I noticed when I;m teaching friends its best they master being able to make it down the mountain as quickly as possible then finesse and refine, then they master how to do it perfectly. So Im always happy if they are able to rudder their way down because we can work on edge control later

To prevent you from turning your torso the opposite way from the board my advice is to point your “ forward” arm towards the direction you like to go. This helps with learning to carve easier.

Beginners should binge watch all the KZfaq videos. Beginners should focus on how to get on and off the lift. How to get up and fall down. They should get duck stance and try riding both regular and switch. And most importantly how to stop.
