10 mm Drawbar Hammer for the Precision Matthews PM-25MV Milling Machine - Lathe and Mill work.
Trying a slightly different video. Much less talking, Just me making the Hammer. I did include and intro nad summary but the project has no talking from me throughout.
Amateur video work and amateur hobby machinist. Videos of me working on various projects in the workshop and around the home. Work using my Vevor MX400 Mini Lathe and Precision Matthews PM-25MV Benchtop Milling Machine.

A couple time saver hints. If you start your hole pattern at 45° instead of zero you will not have to turn your stock under the mill, which saves an alignment step. Then, since drills are cheaper than end mills, after you drill the corner holes go to a drill the same size as your square, or close to it, and drill out the center. Then all you need to do with the end mill is clean up the corners. Nice hammer. One of my first projects for my first mini mill was a drawbar hammer, but mine was easier than yours because I had a hex head drawbar, so the head of my hammer was a deep well socket with a brass face pressed into the square and fixed by threading the handle through it.

After I went though all this I thought to myself that there had to be a way to not have to rotate my workpiece with the DRO. Starting at 45 degrees makes a lot better sense. nice advice. Drilling a hole closer to final size would have made better sense, Might have even samed an endmill :-) I was actually going to buy one but there are no 10mm drawbar hammers I could find, so I figured why not make one. Its not perfect but it does the job and I think it turned our well. Apprecaite you watching.

Nice Deez, that tool came out great! Now you have to figure out where to keep it. Magnets on the side of the mill maybe.

I thought of looking for a magnet that has a hook on it. Maybe get a pair of them and hang the hammer, That or a magnet and just stick it to it.

I use two magnets on the side of the drill press for the chuck key.@@deezworkshop

Cool project. No disrepect but I think I like your running commentary videos better. It gives us a better understanding of the steps your are taking and why.

No disrespect taken at all. This is good feedback. I appreciate it. I like describing my work as I go. Helps me keep myself focused. It’s like me thinking out loud. I’ve had some comments about too much music and talking before so trying to get to see what folks like. I probably use too much music but it’s that it loud weird machine noises during sped up sequences. Cheers.

Deez, Looks like you're getting a little more comfortable with the equipment. I would agree you should add lube when milling, but the chips in the pocket will snap bits. So I would make sure they don't build up. Instead of the bit cutting, it's riding on chips and just getting pressured enough to snap.

I am getting more and more comfortable but I should have used lube for that milling operation. Fortunately it was a very cheap HSS bit but I never like snapping endmills. Thanks for the advice.

Great job Deez. You are getting those finishes nailed down. Im not sure if you are aware, but I wouldn't feel right not mentioning that your ball oiler on your carriage left side v way is collapsed. Bad for debris.

Thanks. I appreciate it. The ball oiler is indeed collapsed I have lifted it flush when I took the carriage apart but once I went to oil it again it pushed back down. Maybe it’s faulty? I think the hole may be reamed too large. I should buy a few replacements and see if a new one fits better. Thanks for noticing and reminding me

I would say too aggressive depth of cut and no cutting oil maybe why you broke that end mill.

I appreciate your review and demonstration of this lathe but please work safer. Gloves should never be worn while operating a lathe and neither should rings. Also only move the machine by hand while using the tap, also you can hold it in the tap wrench still but with pressure from the tailstock to hold it straight while threading, if the tap hasnt broken yet its definitely coming close. It is a small machine but it's still plenty strong enough to seriously mess up your hands if not pull you in. I remember a picture in my high-school machine shop class a a finger with a ring on it... and all the tendons behind it all the way up to the elbow cause that is what gets pulled off when a lathe grabs a ring.

Comments about safety will never be overlooked. I do make mistakes and am always trying to improve and be more safe. I will make mistakes in the future as will other hobbyists but I hope others see this warning and take it to heart. Thanks for watching.
