Here's a super obscure bonus fact about The Goonies that I have observed ... If you go back and watch Spielberg's original Jurassic Park and pay particular attention to the crooked lab worker Nedry you will see that during each of his scenes he is essentially cosplaying some of The Goonies.... Early on he sports a Hawaiian attire resembling the shirt Chunk wears in the truffle shuffle scene. Later on when Nedry is sneaking around the lab he has a grey jacket and shirt combo that ressembles the outift Mouth is wearing in Mikey's house at the beginning of The Goonies. The 3rd instance I noticed was when Nedry is fleeing (just before he gets maimed by little dinosaurs) he is wearing a 3 part combo of a T-Shirt under a slightly open heavy blue shirt and topped off with an olskool yellow rain coat just like the combo Mikey is wearing as they approach the Fratelli hideout... Once you see these things in Jurassic Park with The Goonies in mind it seems pretty blatant that Spielberg was doing it on purpose ... Check it out!!

Wow, I don't have to rewatch the movie. As soon as I read your first sentence I knew and remembered that you're right. It's quite obvious, but I never really thought about it until I read your comment. Great catch. Only thing I want to tweak: Cory Feldman (Mouth) wore that Grey Member's Only jacket throughout the entire movie, not just the beginning.

I was nine (turned ten that September), too. I saw it in the theater the Saturday after it came out, June 8, 1985. I still remember how psyched my brother and I were to see it. This movie was totally a portrait of our Gen-X childhood. Riding our bikes everywhere, having adventures on our own. Kids are too restrained now and It's a shame.

I was four years old and lived one block up the street, on 38th St, from where they filmed the Goonies house. I don't remember seeing the actors but I remember seeing the crew and all the film equipment. I remember how my dad said that he witnessed Spielberg doing most of the directing. I am almost 42 years old and now. I teach Screenwriting to college students in Kansas. I believe The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop (same town and my childhood school) led me into a life of teaching film.

This movie will always be in my top 5 favorite of all time. It captured the adventure and longing of youth in a way not really many other movies could. The pure heart looking to find treasure but to help others. The kids talk sloppily and in an imperfect way in this film often and it really makes it feel more like kids on an awesome adventure than just actors on stages. I love this movie on dark, rainy days when I don't have to work. I'd go so far as calling this movie golden. You can't recreate this vibe no matter how hard you try.

I'm one of those old farts who grew up watching The Goonies. It came out when I was 12, but I wasn't allowed to see it, my parents never took us to the movies, but as soon as it came out on VHS I watched it and fell in love with it. I must admit to having a teen crush on Andy as well. It was a bad time in my life being bullied at home and school, and The Goonies took me to a place I wanted to go. I wanted to be a Goonie. Still now I enjoy watching it, and add it to my list of regular rotation 80s movies, which includes Ghostbusters, Flight of the Navigator, Neverending Story, BTTF, The Princess Bride, and Labyrinth.

I normally HATE kids being "precocious" and generally just trying hard to be funny. It usually irritates the hell out of me, but that Terry Wogan interview with the "Chunk" kid is exceptional. That kid seems like he actually has something. Wonder why he never came to anything in Hollywood terms?🤷‍♂️ Note: Just checked Wikipedia. He appears to have become a successful entertainment lawyer so, you know, good for him! Also Goonies director Richard Donner offered to pay for his college education. It doesn't say whether that happened but it says he offered.

The Goonies is one of my all time favourite films. Truly magnificent fun adventure and great music and acting to. Also very memorable music that even today when hearing it takes me back to when I first watched The Goonies in the mid-1980s. Terry Wogan - referenced in this video of Minty's 10 More Things.. was wonderfully charming and fun, he never put down his guests in any nasty ways but he did poke fun at them. I had the pleasure in the latter 1980s to go to see Live with my school mates and teacher, to be part of the audience see Wogan [the chat show] being recorded at the BBC Television Centre White City in London. I particularly remember one occasion my school mate and I were looking through the doors of the Infamous BBC Canteen [as we were waiting outside the Television Studio]... and willing newsreader Michael Beurk to take a donut to buy then eat. He did much to our delight. Then we were aware alongside us of a gentleman with a twinkle in his eye and it was Terry Wogan and he was interested which school we were from & said to us, "I hope you enjoy my show, you are very welcome" then he went in to the Studio and we then took our seats with the rest of the audience...

The Goonies will always be a favorite of mine. It inspired me to write my own back story to One-Eyed Willy, which I really wanna visualize in some way in the future. I see it as a 3-parter movie story; Part 1 introduces Willy and shows his transitions into a pirate and how he became captain to the Inferno, Part 2 shows him stealing the treasure and trying to fight off the armada til he gets trapped in the cave, Part 3 shows him and the crew setting up the caves and traps all the while Willy goes insane. I have a lot more details about side characters, plot points, how certain things lead up to how something appears in The Goonies, etc. Although I don’t wanna spend all day typing it out here.

What a wonderful video, I loved the Goonies as a kid, and now my 9 and 10 year old boys also love watching this absolutely awesome 1980's classic. Has to be one of the most timeless movies ever. ♥️

The commentary from the special edition DVD is basically the only one of its kind, or at least the only one of its kind that I have caught. Even other films with ensemble casts don't include commentaries like that one, with a camera lens focusing intermittently on the cast and director. It was so touching in the summer of 2021 for me to catch an interview clip of Robert Davi (Jake Fertelli) ommenting on how oh life has imitated art in the time since the Goonies was new. He says that there have been instances where children have had to come through for their parents and bring home the bacon the same way that the Goonies did during their treasure hunt. Richard Donner is missed.

The thing is I never realized how beloved the Goonies was until the age of the internet. To me it was nothing really special as my parents seemed to let us watch more adult films. I also felt the same way about The Princess Bride.

Cool Video again Minty. Never knew of these cut scenes or the dynamic between Richard Donner and the Kids and Richard Donner with Steven Spielberg. I'm an 80s kid so I love this video.

A rare occasion in my childhood. Staying overnight at an aunt house. She recommend I watch this movie so I did. It was the most amazing thing I've ever saw up to that point in my life.😁

The Goonies is one of my absolute favourite movies. I'm actually glad that the octopus scene was cut because it didn't really seem to fit in with the rest of the movie. I'm lucky enough to have the Goonies game on my Commodore 64 as well as the two Goonies games on the NES. Goonies II is such a great game despite the weird mermaid story. 😃

One of my all time favorite movies. I was 11 and saw it 5 times in the theatre the summer it came out. I had a magazine about the making of the movie (I think I still have it), I had the board game... I was obsessed with that movie summer of 1985. I still pretty much know the whole movie by heart and if I come across it while flipping TV channels, I'll stop and watch (even if it's the last 15 minutes),

You've been so amazing to capture 80s /90s spirit in covering these classic movies!!! You have so done an amazing jobs to help us tap into our nostalgic side. BUT your like me!!!!.... Your brought up in the UK and also Australia..... And we both know that independent children and family television industry was dominated by the independent aussie and British companies.... I understand your audience is mainly American But would u consider doing one of minties nostalgia TV past on British /Australian childrens.show..... I reckon it was a massive industry that perhaps the Americans don't know about..... But for use it was amazing xxxx

The commentary track from the Goonies DVD is probably the most unique of its kind. There have been commentaries where there was a camera lens on the contributors at the beginning or the end. This one is the only one where there is a constant camera feed on the performers and director; it switches back-and-forth between the film itself and the camera feet where the film becomes a thumbnail in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. The Goonies cast and Richard Donner did that in the summer of 2001. I first saw it five years later. As of March 2024, it hasn’t gotten old for me. Richard Donner may be gone, but he won’t be forgotten.

Fun Fact: Keith A. Walker who played Irvin Walker, the father of Mikey & Brand in *"THE GOONIES",* later wrote the original script for *"FREE WILLY"* (1993), which also had Richard Donner (who directed *"THE GOONIES")* as one of the executive producers for the film, the animated series and the two sequels. After he passed away in late 1996, *"FREE WILLY 3: The Rescue"* (which was released in the next year) added a dedication to his memory during the end credits.
