To expand on the expand: String variants "word1 word2" can even be replaced with the ingame dictionary, if available. This is super helpful for e.g. (Crafting) Macros where you might not want to check each abilities' full name, just hit tab to autocomplete and you're ready to macro away.

I don't know if I would call it a hidden tip, but an option I changed in the settings that literally changed the game for me is the following - In character config go to the inventory tab and make sure the option for "Store all newly obtained items in the Armory Chest" is turned off. Now, when you get new drops in a dungeon, etc, it goes into your inventory automatically. It makes it so much easier to keep track of what stuff you just got from that dungeon run that you want to trade to the GC or desynth, etc. I used to always have issues with my armory chest being full. Changing this solved that for me and really helped me keep my armory chest under control.

As a sprout 🌱 when I found that out I was shook! Also near that option is something that helps short items into categories! That has been super helpful. I still need to hit “sort” within those every so often, but it makes finding things and understanding what’s used for what…infinitely easier. Also made turning in gear to the GC easier for seals when I could figure out what I was already using from what I didn’t need. There’s a way to only exchange items from inventory!

Maybe you covered this one already, but LBs are cast the second the cast bar ends, just like enemy attacks. This means you can rescue folks the second it's over to break the animation lock and get them back to DPSing/healing/tanking or let them respond to mechanics more quickly. And if you know they're using it ahead of time, you can stand real close so they don't even get dragged anywhere!

Clarity on number 9: This is queuing and it effects every single button press in the game, that's why people spam buttons as it will queue them to be used at the next possible moment rather than have a delay from the end of a GCD to when you can register your next button press.

@BitwiseMobile

@@RadicalRaspberry2 I didn't even know what it was until I watched this, but I learned to do it naturally as a healer. I've played healz in just about every MMO I've played since EQ, and I've played a lot of them. One thing I love about FF14 is that it breaks the mold for healer. I feel like I'm actually participating in the battle, but you are right, with a big pull I have to focus on healing and I have to use the queueing technique often. Another one that's good to know is what one of my FC mates calls slide casting. If you wait until the cast timer has less than .5 secs you can actually move and not interrupt the cast. It's a powerful technique to be able to complete your casts and get out of bad stuff.

Glam dresser tips: 1) You can also dye gear inside glam dresser and it will always be set to that dye when put to plate or glammed manually from dresser. So if you really love some gear and want it pure white, just dye it inside dresser and save millions of gil. 2) You can glamour item from glamour dresser by right clicking it (without plate edit open) and "apply glamour". No glam prisms needed. 3) You can take item off the dresser but it WILL stay in plates. This was crucial to me when the dresser "only" had 400 slots. 4) There are more pants in the game than 2B pants. Shocking.
@TamsmitSam
@TamsmitSam Жыл бұрын
When dyeing gear in glamor plates, one piece of gear can also have multiple different dyes across each plate. It's kinda hard to put into words, but as an example, a shirt can be dyed pure white in glam slot 1, while that same shirt can be a different color in slot 2. Only requires 2 pots of dye total, and saves soooo much time and money in the long run if you have one thing that's used in multiple glams.
@setzstone
@setzstone Жыл бұрын
Additionally, if you get a new piece of tome gear, throw it into a plate before you wear it then pull the gear back out. Now you can use the new gear look and also use the actual gear. I found this to be a really useful trick because when I got new tome gear I'd get irritated that I couldn't see it due to my plates.
@Kita15190
@Kita15190 Жыл бұрын
One thing that it is often overlooked is that you can assign glamour plate to gear sets, which makes life easier for jobs that share same gear (like 2 tanks), but you want to give a different glam to each of them.
@FrozenSolid90
@FrozenSolid90 Жыл бұрын
Dyeing gear inside the dresser is really good for using some of the rarer dyes... No need to reuse those Gunmetal/Pearl dyes... Or heaven forbid the cash shop Dyes... Additionally, even without the Dresser, if the item you are using to glam your gear is dyed, the dye carries over.

The LB thing is important because if you have a player who has one (or two 😂) stacks of weakness from being revived, it’s better to let them do the LB so players who don’t have weakness can keep doing higher damage in the meantime. Doesn’t always make a difference, but it will when it counts.

And a better way to try out your rotation is to go to Palaka's Stand in Thavnair, and do "The Burning Field" (which is just another version of "Stone, Sky, Sea"), there your CD's will also reset and you'll also get a good indicator to see if your damage is holding up.

for LB damage, some mechanisms actually affects it. They are usually buffs that the boss give to themselves (e.g. Ravana has two stances and one of them increases the damage taken of himself), or the hammer trap in A10s, where late in the timeline there would be several adds show up, if you lure them in to the range and trigger the trap, they will get a vul up, which does affect LB damage taken.

For those on controller, if you hold L1 or similar button on other controllers, and press the directional pad buttons, they will cycle different lists on your HUD L1 + up/down cycles enemy list, perfect for dungeons or if don't like relying on kissing a mob in the face to make sure you're targetting it with X L1 + left/right cycles Alliance members list, only really usable in Alliance raids, but makes it so you don't have to use a mouse to rez someone You can also set filter presets for R1 + Triangle/Circle/Square/Cross in the character menu of your settings to set filters for left/right to cycle different things other than mobs, like non-party PC's or NPCs, useful if you're in Eureka/Bozja rezzing someone and Cross isn't reliable with enemies around or if you're healing a random

#9: fwiw, this isn't specific to OGCDs, this is just what people mean when they talk about "queueing" abilities. You can do the same thing with GCD abilities (like, after your OGCD goes off you can hit the next GCD to queue it up (within a certain timeframe)), and it's part of the reason using macros for combat is such a bad idea (because macros are can't be queued).
@specstreTV
@specstreTV Жыл бұрын
For sure true, and I should’ve specified that probably, but I find queueing GCDs tends to be a little more “normal” whereas queueing oGCDs seems more novel, especially with how the usually given instruction is to wait and weave AFTER the GCD finishes. Good points though!!

that is why combat macros usually have all lines filled with copies of the same command, because it will keep trying to execute the command until it reaches the end or there is a window that lets you execute it, so it KINDA works like a queue. sprint also can't be queued, what can be really annoying sometimes, but there are... ways to fix it.

With your gear set list open you can click and hold the gear set you want and pull it down to a hot-bar to create a short-cut to that set, it even automatically displays the job icon that the gear set is for. You can also create a macro to show/hide specific hot-bars (/display hotbar 7, for example) which can allow you to have a quick access to every job you have without having to go into the character menu every time. Updating the gear on that gear-set is also reflected in the button. it can also be useful if you primarily use a controller when crafting as you can make a macro to show/hide multiple hot-bars with your crafting skills on them. For example tucked out of the way in one of the corners of my screen i have one hotbar with 3 buttons on it. they are macros labled DPS, Healer/Tank and Crafting/Gathering. each one makes a different hotbar appear each with those specific job gear sets on and then after 5 seconds vanishes that hotbar again. the gearset hotbars themselves are positioned directly on top of each other right next to the one with the macro's on. it is really helpful for changing my job on the fly when in a que as a dps and doing some crafting to pass the time.

A few other things you neglected to mention regarding some of these; The different DPS roles do different damage in regards to single. Melee does the most, Caster DPS does a little more than half of a Melee, and Ranged is a little less than a Caster. That's why Ranged DPS only get to LB in Alliance Raids when you need that long line, longer than the Caster LB can reach. Also for the Mammeteer title, not only does it change the behaviors of Wind-ups, it also unlocks new animations in certain minions, as well as making them do their idle animations with /poke. I don't remember which ones specifically get new animations. But other neat little easter eggs are minions some minions that are related will "interact" if they're in proximity of each other. Certain Moogle minions will start to dance in a little circle, Wolf Pup and Coeurl Kitten, Louisoix and Bahamut, Magnai and Sadu, and Tonberry and EVERYONE will all fight eachother. Mandragoras will face eachother and do little dances. My personal favorite is Runar will hold out a flower to Shadowbringer Y'shtola.

For those who don't know what "floored to the nearest integer means", it's a programming term. Basically, it will always round DOWN to the nearest whole number. 10.9 becomes 10, for example, just like 10.1 also becomes 10.

What I do is have cycling targeting party members on SHIFT+scroll wheel, and as soon as I complete a single targeted action on them (GCD or oGCD), the game automatically switches me back to the target I was first targeting. Even outside of AST carding, it's useful to heal someone just once (only person that needs repeat single heals is the main tank, ideally, and I have party member 2 on a dedicated keybind).

Highly recommend aetheryte tickets for anyone who isn't using their alliance seals and wants to make money. While you aren't *making* money with them, you're *saving* more money per seal than you could possibly make if your doing a lot of expensive teleports.
@specstreTV

I always kind of disrespected them until I actually thought about how much it adds up. 1k per teleport can very quickly become ~50,000 gil over the course of a few days (depending on how much and how far you're jumping, of course). It's definitely good savings in the long run, even if I feel a bit like a grandma hustling coupons...

The magic aggro thing is actually fascinating because I remember it being a mechanic in XIV proper at *some* point, otherwise it was bleed-over tips from FFXI that somehow got in. I just distinctly remember, way back when I started, casting well away from any elementals because I'd heard 'casting magic around them can aggro them'.
@Dhalin

Queueing up commands also works with non-oGCDs, too when it comes to hardcasted spells and also non-oGCD abilities. It seems like the window is during the last 0.5s of your GCD or spell cast, you can hit your next hotkey and it will perform it asap. For example, you are casting Stone and your tank gets hit hard, you can, while casting Stone, hit F2 and hit your hotkey for a cure spell and Cure will start casting immediately when Stone finishes, as long as you hit the Cure hotkey close enough to the end of Stone's cast. If you need it sooner, just Jump to cancel the Stone cast.

2:00 there's also proximity aggro and ability aggro. ability aggro does exactly what it sounds like, mob aggro's when you use an ability, and proximity aggro means the mob will aggro whenever you get close enough, regardless of whether you are in its cone of vision or RP walking. also, sound aggro mobs will also aggro if you walk into them (even while RP walking). they may be blind, but they can still feel if you bump into them :p

4:15 - There are two ways to interpret this: 1. Rounding to nearest whole number. So rounding up if the average is, say. 535.5 or above, but rounding down if the average is 535.49 or below 2. Rounding down to the last surpassed whole number. So that even 535.99 will round down to 535. Floor, in programmer/math speak usually refers to rounding down, but it also uses the phrase nearest integer, which adds unnecessary confusion.

Genuinely surprised that i did already know about all of these, so i'll drop in a bonus one for you. On gamepad specifically, in the gamepad config you can map your left stick to auto fire the macro that's located in slot 99 in your macro pallette. If you make a macro in slot 99 with the line: /target then clicking the left stick will target your focus target instantly, This is especially useful for healers, as you can set your tank as your focus target, and click left stick to instantly target them for all of your healy goodness, and then whilst holding either trigger, tap either bumper to snap back to an attackable target.

Just an expansion of the #8 tip: Instead of joining and exiting an instance to reset your cooldowns, you can use Duty Support to join the second Endwalker Trial and practice your opener as much as you want, because you can instantly reset the fight by dying on the stage's borders. It's also great to practice your regular rotation under an actual boss' mechanics. It's not good to check dps on your ACT though, because of ilvl sync, but still... neither the dummy target is good for that, lol.

The letters assigned to mobs are very useful in high level organized group content. Much easier to say "Focus mob H" than "Focus the 3rd mob from the left when facing N". Its less useful now for sure but there are still niche cases where it is nice to have a position agnostic way to refer to a specific entity.

The pre-weaving one is a bit clunky to explain. You'll have to mess with it a bit, and it really only seems to work with casts, rather than instant GCDs like a melee action. Basically, while the cast is still going, start tapping an oGCD and it will fire as soon as your GCD cast completes. Usually, weaving is done with a delay, e.g., you finish the cast, THEN press the oGCD, but this streamlines it juuuust a bit.
