In Greek we also use double negatives, for example we would say '' no tengo ninguna idea'' exactly in the same way' 'δεν έχω καμία ιδέα (den eho kamia idea)' '!

Big mistake at minute 3:18. The three masculine examples (el agua, el alma etc.) are in fact all feminine. They just happen to start with an A which is also the tonic / stressed syllable, hence making impossible to pronounce La Agua. We have El Agua just to help pronunciation (in this situation, in many other Latin languages such as French, Italian and Catalan, we would have L' as the article (l'acqua, l'aigua etc.)). But please these three words are FEMININE. For example if you put an adjective it will be feminine. "Do you want cold water or room temperature water?" is "¿Quieres el agua fría o natural /del tiempo?"

Yes! I agree. It is even clearer if you use the plural: - las aguas bravas - las almas del Purgatorio - las alas Another bad example was "la moto". This is a short form for "motocicleta", like "la peli" for "película".

Some words ending in -a that are actually masculine: el persa, el planeta, el cometa (1st declension Greek masculines) el tema, el idioma, el problema (Greek neuters in -μα).

El error número 8 me ha gustado mucho, ya que en el primer año de mis estudios universitarios nos enseñaron la regla que el adjetivo va antes del sustantivo si tiene un artículo definido, y después, si lo tiene indefinido. Por ejemplo, 'el blanco perro', pero 'un perro blanco'. Es muy curioso, por qué esta regla nos la enseñaron de tal modo..

5:05 También está de mas la J (mayúscula), en "Junio", debe ser: junio. Se utilizan las mayúsculas en la primera letra del mes cuando son fechas festivas, importantes o relevantes para cada país, etc., ejemplo: 5 de Mayo, 16 de Septiembre, etc., no para cualquier fecha.

Ojo, que el error #8 aplica sólo para conversaciones, porque en poesía o como recurso literario no importa colocar delante el adjetivo y luego el sustantivo.

Bien is an adverb that is used with verbs, e.g.: Estoy bien (in English it would be "well"). Bueno is an adjective that is used with nouns, e.g.: Él es un niño bueno. (in English it would be "good"). Finally, buen is bueno but when it's used before a masculin noun, e.g.: Él es un buen niño.

Es algo que a veces ni los hispanohablantes entendemos, pero " Agua" es una palabra femenina, aunque usemos el artículo masculino. Ya que, nosotros decimos "El agua" pero no "El agua sucio". Lo correcto es decir el artículo masculino y el adjetivo femenino. Por ejemplo *"El agua sucia"* , *"El agua insípida"* etc. Espero haber ayudado en algo :] ♡

4:04 No comparto que argumento/argument y suburbio/suburb sean falsos amigos. Suburbio técnicamente es un area que queda fuera de la zona urbana, puede que sea una zona deprimida(barrio peligroso) o no, pero no es un requisito dentro de la definición. En cuanto argumento/argument son similares pero no se usan igual. Puedes decir en inglés "I am having an argument with someone" y en español sonaría muy raro porque dirías una discusión aunque es lo mismo. Y en Español se vuelve un verbo "argumentar" pero no en inglés.

Si, se puede pero si lo dices en una conversación te van a mirar raro, se usa mas de esa forma al escribir, en el lenguaje literario, como poesías, cuentos, novelas, etc.

3:16 Veo sus ejemplos y también veo sus nota con * en la descripción. Aún así, sus ejemplos de palabras masculinas terminadas en "a" son todas incorrectas. Los ejemplos que han dado son todos en realidad femeninos y llevan el artículo masculino solo por esta regla: "ante sustantivos femeninos que empieza por a tónica, le precede un articulo masculino". Un buen ejemplo hubiese sido "el tema". Ver a lo que me refiero en el punto 2 de www.rae.es/dpd/el

El ejemplo que has dado ("el tema") es de otra regla que dice que los sustantivos de origen griego acabados en -ma tienen el genero masculino por eso llevan el articulo "el": el asma, el fantasma, el dilema, el problema, el programa, el clima, el tema, el sistema, el dogma, el idioma, el paradigma, el carisma, el poema, el síntoma, el emblema, el drama, el panorama, etc.. Hay palabras que no siguen a esta regla, como "la broma", pero la regla general es así. Los ejemplos de la regla a que te has referido podrían ser: el águila, el aula, el hacha, el agua, el arena, el espada, el área. "El tema" no empieza por "a tónica", así que no puede mostrar esta regla, a menos que sepas que es "a tónica".

It actually isn’t wrong to include an article with a profession. If you want to specify an abstraction, you can include it.

is not wrong, but native speakers don't use it. But if you use an adjective before or after the profession , you must use an article. "ella es una asombrosa bailarina" vs "ella es bailarina" or "ella es una bailarina asombrosa". The 1st phrase and 3rd have the same meaning, "she is a great dancer". the 2nd one just says "she is a dancer"

It is the "y" sound as in yellow. In Argentina and Uruguay it is particularly pronounced "sh" as in shower

@@nesepo Thanks for that note about pronunciation in Argentina and Uruguay! I've been taught to say "ll" as "y", but my friend told me that his teacher taught them to pronounce it as "sh". Hence, his "ella" sounds like "esha/Asia" while mine sounds like "eya".

I was taught to differentiate between the letters "y" and "ll" by my first Spanish teacher. From what I understand "ll" sometimes sounds like "zj" in English consonant sounds. I think it might be Spain or a specific region in Spain who does that though.

@@ivetterodriguez9628 I'm afraid you were taught wrong. The distinction between "y" and "ll," when preserved, is that the "ll" sounds quite like the "lli" in "million" but with no "l" sound while the "y" sound is more like an English "y" sound in "did you." This is only a rough description since I'm trying to avoid linguistic jargon. At any rate, people don't really distinguish between the two sounds anymore. The merger of these two sounds is called "yeísmo" in Spanish.

No. No es por el francés. A veces el adjetivo va antes del sustantivo para calificar y después para marcar distinción. Así, si digo "falsos amigos" estoy haciendo referencia no necesariamente a una característica sino a que, de todos los amigos que podría o no tener, tengo algunos que son falsos.

It depends on the person you're talking to, I'm a native Spanish speaker and I have heard other natives using "un" or "una" before professions. Sometimes I also make that "mistake"...

@@JBrooksNYS Because their Spanish is influenced by English so they tend to use some of the English grammar rules when the speak or write in Spanish. The Hispanic people living in the U.S. make the same mistake.

Mistake at 0:54: "I am bored", not "I am boring".

It's not a mistake. When you say 'soy aburrido' it means you are generally a boring person, it's a personality trait, hence, 'I'm boring'. When you say 'estoy aburrido' it means you are currently bored (it depends on a specific situation), so, the correct translation is 'I'm bored'.
