Ray Bourque was traded to Colorado for EXACTLY this reason. Boston was not going to win the Cup while Bourque was a player. Boston did the right thing and sent him to a team that had a great chance to win it all.

Exactly what I came to say. Dude made it sound like the Bruins did Ray wrong when in reality they purposefully gave him his chance for the cup.

@@munkustrap2The way I understood it, when the GM told him he was going to Colorado he told him: "I know this isn't your first choice, But I really believe it's your best shot." A big one you missed…Bernie Geoffrion was a star for many years for the Montreal Canadiens and played for them his entire career and coached the team as well (how well he coached can be debated). His son played for the team also, though not a star The Canadiens, having not done so for quite a while, decided to retire several numbers, along with his number (finally) in a short span of time. Geoffrion bled blue, white & red & was extremely proud to have been associated with the team for so long. He passed away the night before the ceremony. Members of his family attended the ceremony, it was so sad to watch what would have been one of Geoffrion’s proudest moments, and to see his family there was heartbreaking 💔

You're kidding right? Nothing on Bruins player Normand Léveillé??? I'd say his returning to the original Garden for a last skate on it's ice was extremely emotional, never mind how his career ended. For those who don't know (& for speed & ease I'm going to copy & paste)... "On October 23, 1982, after the first period in a game against the Vancouver Canucks in Vancouver, British Columbia during his second season with the Bruins, Léveillé complained of feeling dizzy & having pains in his shoulder. As the trainers began tending to him, he lost consciousness. He was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors diagnosed a brain aneurysm. Léveillé was rushed into emergency surgery in an effort to save his life. After surgery, he was comatose for three weeks & remained hospitalized for an additional three weeks." "In 1995, the Boston Bruins invited Léveillé to the closing ceremonies of the Boston Garden, where he was allowed to skate on the Garden ice one last time. Bruins captain Ray Bourque helped escort Léveillé around the ice surface." By escort they pretty much mean pull. He could barely walk. I'd say those were pretty emotional events.

They did show a clip of two teams in Broncos jerseys paying their respects, but it was in the Brittanie Cecil clip. I suppose the video editor thought it was close enough. It was an emotional moments in NHL history, not hockey history video - otherwise I would think the Humboldt Broncos and the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv should be included as well. Tragic ending for all of them.

Thats not how it works bud. The Canes ďidnt happen to pick him out of the crowd to play goalie lol. Every NHL arena has an emergency goalie in the building in case an emergency goalie is needed for either team. All teams have a backup goalie on the bench but on the rare occasion both goalies get injured in the game, and it has happened a few times, the game can continue. Chicago also had to use their EBUG in 2018 ( Emergency Back Up Goalie ), a 36 year old accountant named Scott Foster

Smithee division? Get a damn clue and stop using AI. It's the SmYthe division. Y as in I. I was actually at the Miracle on Manchester and was sitting in the nosebleed section. The place had nearly emptied out by half after the Oilers took a 5-0 lead. To this day I don't know why I stayed. I was literally in a direct line from where the game winning shot was taken and could follow it all the way into the net. I kept the ticket stub but 42 years and 6 moves later, I have no idea what happened to it.

Doesn't take long to get one stitched up. Every arena has an emergency backup goalie should such a thing happen. Especially rare for 2 goalies to get hurt in the same game. Probably what inspired it: there was a case a few years ago in Florida Roberto Luongo got injured in the 1st period, they pulled him for backup Al Montoya, in the 3rd period Montoya pulled his groin, He tried to play through but was clearly struggling. The team was scrambling, they considered playing without a goalie the rest of the game, putting forward Scott MacKenzie in (he had some goalie experience), Coach Robb Tallas ended up suiting up and was about to come into the game, but somehow they managed to get Luongo back to the arena and dressed and since his injury was apparently not so bad, he finished the game.
