"NINE HUNDRED! NINE HUNDRED KOROK SEEDS!" *Walks away in a rage* - The Completionist. And that flower quest in Hollow Knight is just pure masochisms. I tried it a few times. Got so mad I looked up a video of how to do it and got even angrier, because I knew there was no way in Hell I had to patience to even attempt that nightmare of a side quest.

For some reason, I always loved the Riddler trophies and challenges. However, the pigeons were an absolute BORE. I would never do it again and hate myself for feeling compelled to do it in the first place.

I found the quest in Skyrim where you have to find the crimson nirnroot in Blackreach way more tedious than the Bards College questline. I'm surprised that one wasn't on the list instead.

Pigeons were the absolute worst. Every damn shot at them would inevitably grant a wanted level, plus there was NO way to track which ones you had already killed.

The Riddler trophies are excellent, especially in City and knight. Each one has a little puzzle or hidden in a unique spot which always make’s them so fun to find. Plus City and Knight have excellent side missions to go with them as well. 👍👍

To be fair to the Korok seeds, if you're even going to attempt finding all of them, there's no way you aren't aware of the treasure at the end of that rainbow. If you find every Korok seed without looking up a guide, completely on your own, then the literal pile of golden shit you get at the end should serve as rock bottom so you can get yourself into a 12 step program.

Honestly I think the worst thing about the Bards' College quest is that the poem isn't sung and the reading of it is kind of awful. If it had been a decent musical/dramatic reading then it might have almost been worth it. And if the Fire Festival had been more like a big Bonfire Night thing and less like a half-hearted community barbecue. But that's Skyrim for you

Witcher 3's Skellige treasure chests all over the sea were particularly annoying to me Mostly hopping between there and the banker vendor on a different map to sell things every time the inventory filled up cause all the other vendors are out of cash

Did I miss the entry for the Stones of Berenzia in Skyrim or am I just going nuts? That was incredibly tedious, not worth it and had the added bonus of often being bugged so it couldn't be completed. (See also: Nirnroot).

Beer bottle collecting in Assassin's Creed Syndicate isn't even the most annoying collection sidequest in that game, much less the series. You can buy a map for it from any merchant, there is zero parkour required and the description of some of those beers is hilarious. The two dozen music boxes are far worse, since there you just get a vague clue and a screenshot.

GTA V…. Walk 5 miles in the desert! The Epsilon Program side quest was really poor but having a whole section where you basically just found a quiet spot in the desert and rubber-banded your controller to run in circles for 23mins was just the worst waste of time. I walked away once and came back to find I’d been eaten by a cougar or something. So yeah, I had to sit there and watch it for all that time, hearing him shout KIFFLOM every now and then.

Ugh the manips needed to complete the Queen of Cards quest with is ridiculous!

Not technically a side quest, but the shine sprites in Mario Sunshine. You don't need all of them to complete the game, but if you decide to go for 100% completion the game gives you absolutely nothing for it.

The most recent side mission game that i've played is Tom Clancy's The Division, a lot of them in order to level up and gain access to the main story line

Dunno about the korok seeds, problem with breath of the wilds weapon durability is once you've stocked up on high end castle gear, wands and elemental swords you can't justify going into combat with anything unless they're holding something equal or better which they often aren't so the increased weapon inventory is non negotiable to me and chances are when you're to the point of looking up a guide you'll only have about 200 max left to find

Can I nominate Virus Core grinding in the original .hack quadrilogy? I just completed my first playthrough of that retro series and my God. Grinding the collection of those damn cores when they end up having a low drop rate was teeth-gnashing. You end up with tons of unneeded gear instead of the cores you need. Maddening.

i dont get why in the world the ridder trophies and challenges were so high up on this list they were a great side quest in all the arkham games to me. Also i lol the moment i looked at the thumbnail i knew immediately after i saw what that was. i knew it was going to be number 1 on this list of the most tedious side quests ever

Collecting the wisps in Legends Arceus is pretty tedious, but has a more satisfying reward.

Every single game other than majora's mask has bad sidequests.

I don't mind the Riddler trophies in Asylum as they weren't obtrusive yet. In City they were beginning to irritate but have the hook of now sometimes being puzzle based rather than just 'I have this item' based. Origins is where they felt obtrusive and exhausted. Bad times. And then on Knight, although they tie into the plot, I noticed that a few streamers just stopped doing them. Enough was enough.

I remember lking the Queen of Cards side quest but it's been a long time since I played it.

The Bards College feels like there was going to be a whole arc with it, then was cut. Thankfully for mods that really make the Bard a really cool character

Korok seeds are definitely one of the worst side quests ever. There are far too many and even the good reward of expanding your inventory is only "good" because of the crappy weapon durability. You're basically doing one tedious thing to make another tedious thing slightly less annoying. Not exactly thrilling.

Good list, but I think you missed the side quest in Final Fantasy X for Lulu's final weapon. You need to dodge lightning bolts 100 times in a row. Fucking up once means starting over.

Totally agree about the Pidgeons entry in GTA IV. GTA have always had the collectibles thing as side quests, but the pidgeons one is the worst for some reasons: They blend in awfully in the scenery on a game that is much more detailed graphically compared to its predecessors 3D era games; Their placement is, by far, the worst GTA games ever had, with most of them being in barely unacessible areas. I can only think of GTA SA Snapshots coming close, but even then, it had the gimmick of the shinning lights on landmarks location to give it a hint. The reward is also the worst in the series, as stated in the video. No character upgrades neither free weapon/item spawn. Curse them pidgeons, man.

I gave up on the search halfway through. lol. My luck is still iffy because of it but I'm not too bothered. I should probably take a day to look for them all, but that's still 260 to find. As an over all thing, if the collectible is over 50, then I'm not collecting it. Bards College isn't too bad, but there's so much more that could have been done. Maybe being able to earn items from Jarls or people of importance by telling them you're a bard and will sing songs of their triumphs. The blue bottlecap sidequest in New Vegas is far worse as it relies predominantly on chance. I got stuck on a similar level in the Spyro remake. Idk what happened in the interim but my reflexes suck in that level alone. lol.

Was there any other choice for number one? I did do the pigeons though.

Queen of Card quest.. Tick tick tick tick.. tick tick.. BOOM! I am making a claim to fame here on TJ that I have completed that quest more times than any sane person should have. FFVIII was my favourite game for the longest time. I owned the PC version on it's release. As well as the original PS version. The USA version for PS as well. Steam version. PS Vita version. + more probably that are escaping my elderly memory. I LOVE easy games. I've said as much in comments on other TJ videos. And FFVIII is easy with a capital E. A. S. Y. Maybe that's why I've forced myself to change card rules and complete that particular quest so often? To add some degree of difficulty to the game.. No idea tbh.

The Riddler trophies/challenges only get more and more tedious throughout the Arkham series, if you think Asylum is worth complaining about, Arkham Knight will blow your mind.

The Bards College? The fucking _Bards College?_ That's your pick from Skyrim? Not _just about everything to do with the Thieves Guild?_ The Crown of Barenziah ring any bells? How about needing to complete *FIFTY* radiant quests all across Skyrim _one at a time_ in order to restore the Thieves Guild - each quest being little more than: get quest from Delvin, exit cistern, exit guild, fast travel, enter building, interact with objects, leave building, fast travel back to Riften, enter guild, enter cistern, report quest, get new quest, repeat _forty-nine times?_ Oh, and you'd better hope you get the right towns from the _randomized_ assignments you get from Delvin or you're going to be doing a fuck of a lot more than 50 of those tedious as fuck radiant quests. Were you guys so traumatized from that clusterfuck of tedium that you blocked it out from your memories?

The Flower quest in Hollow Knight give you acces to the secret good ending too tho

But all these quests (at least the ones I've played) are voluntary. You left out collecting 109 wisps in Pokemon Legends Arceus which is mandatory if you want to fully complete the game.

I came across the hollow's knight quest. Had just finished the queen's garden so I knew the area well. And the second I learned you couldn't take a single hit I said fuck that and never went back. Nope. Fuck the other endings, fuck the mask shared, nope nope nope. Don't care.

I did the Richard flags for assassin Creed because of the achievement.

The riddler trophies aren't that useless as they give you bonus experience as well as being a pain in the arse to get

Speaking as someone who’s 100% completed each Arkham game multiple times, I think the Riddler trophies generally get a worse rap than they deserve. Asylum’s trophies rarely force you to go out of your way to find them, and there aren’t that many (the 240 number includes Riddles, Interview Tapes, Chatter-boxes, and Chronicles of Arkham). I think they’re a fun and easy way to gain XP. Arkham City took it way too far with the number of trophies, and I personally think Origins has the least fun and least rewarding Riddler side-quest of them all (A freaking Riddler trophy is your reward? SERIOUSLY???). Knight’s Riddler quest was tedious at times but gave you a great incentive to collect everything (ie. Beating the living sh*t out of Riddler). Personally, I would have chosen Origins as the example for the series or just discussed the series as a whole. Asylum’s Riddler quest is not in anywhere near the same league as BOTW’s Korok seeds.

Here’s the thing about the Korok seeds….they’re actually one of the best collectibles to ever be put in a game. Why? Because they encourage you to explore the (beautiful) world. In most games, that tree in the distance is just a tree, or that weird rock over yonder is just a rock. But not in BoTW. You’re taught very early on to be curious about the world around you; you’re taught that BEING curious about the world around you has rewards. You’re actively incentivized to explore, and that’s an invaluable motivation for such a massive, beautiful world. (WARNING: Massive Rant Incoming!) If they weren’t in the game, you would definitely miss them, and the world would feel much less alive. There are huge parts of the map that, without koroks, you’d never have any reason to go to. (Although there are also huge areas where there aren’t any koroks, such as the northern Woodland Tower region, and NW Hebra) Let’s not forget that there’s ELEVEN different types of Korok. They could’ve easily just made them all the same, but they chose to design and thoughtfully place eleven different variants in places where they would make sense to be. Given that there’s 900 total seeds, that alone deserves admiration. That being said, I agree there probably are too many; or rather, there needs to be a better reward for getting the remaining seeds after maxing out your inventory slots. And a literal pile of shit isn’t a good enough reward. 🤣 I also concede that an in-game system for tracking which seeds you’ve already gotten would go a long way in improving the experience of collecting them all. Little markers on the map aren’t enough. A counter for each region would’ve been a godsend. I’m torn on the merits of the Korok mask from the first expansion…on the one hand, it does make finding some of the more hidden ones easier, but on the other hand it kind of defeats the purpose of searching for them. (Exploration) So yeah, I for one love the Korok seeds and I don’t for a single second regret finding them all my first time. My first play through of BoTW was an absolutely magical experience that I’ll treasure for the rest of my life, and the Korok seeds were a big part of that experience.

Might be me but the hollowknight delicate flower is not that bad. Do your journey once & kill everything, back track without the bench most enemies remain dead. Only the one hit stuff remains. Have your minion charms on. They will take care of stuff that comes near you. Biggest pain is the spikes at the end. But just practice it a few times before attempting it. My first go took 2 attempts........ WAAAAAAAAAAAY less than "trouble with the trolley, ey?" Grrrr that was a piss take

replaying Spyro Reignited right now, and I'll take the minecart over that skateboard race in the third game. Specifically, getting the skill point for it. The only thing I have never gotten in the game. I didn't want to play a racing game...I don't really LIKE racing games and I am very much NOT GOOD AT THEM. The reward is the second art gallery. Is it worth it? I don't know, I've never seen it.

.hack Quarantine has a quest where you need to turn in EVERY SINGLE WEAPON/ARMOR/ITEM in game and all you get as a reward is a useless wall paper/poster of the in game characters but what makes that quest suck isn't needing to get every single item in game its that the said quest only opens up AFTER you beat the game making the quest kind of pointless but its reward for doing so STILL SUCKS.

I don't exactly agree about the Bards college quest. Sure it was a complete and utter disappointment in the first playthrough. However, people who consider Skyrim just ok have started the game at least 5 times - how many times can you be disappointed by the same thing?

I actually loved the Lucky Dice. It was like a scavenger hunt, and it encourages you to look for them.

I hate how breath of the wild tried to make a tedious side quest a core mechanic of the game and then didn't even put them on the map. Ruined the game for a pointless grind to extend gameplay.

That last one just sounds like total crap...

Side quest or not, an escorts mission is a good sign I'm probably going to quit playing before I finish the game. They're almost never very much fun, the AI is usually around the same cognitive level as a profoundly handicapped three-year-old child, and I'm really trying here but I can't think of a single game with a FUN escort mission in it ever. So, side quest or main storyline quest, doesn't matter. Escort missions S.U.C.K.
