When Natasha Romanov says she's a monster I only ever thought she meant because she's an assassin, who are these people that thought anything else different? Natasha isn't self deprecating. She's matter of fact, which is shown off gloriously with her one liners for her entire stint on screen. That's her personality. If you thought anything different than she was implying that she's an assassin, then you clearly don't understand the character.

I used to work at this telemarketing place that tried to some questionable tactics to "inspire" us to sell & close sales. OK, the tactics weren't the only thing questionable since they probably broke some laws as well, most likely scamming customers. They gave rousing "testimony" about how some of the workers had nothing, but NOW HAD CELLPHONES (later, found out from the person that it was a free, government provided-cell phone). MOST of the people who worked there, except this one other lady and me, were either ex-cons or people with serious substance abuse issues, so they tried to play it off like "LOOK, we are SAVIORS here! Do well and you can TURN YOUR LIFE AROUND!!" It had a weird cult-wanna-be-like atmosphere (though no one there actually bought it). And what film clips did they play to try to INSPIRE us?? One of them was a few scenes from "Wolf of Wall Street." The other was from "Boiler Room." I found neither of them in the least bit inspiring. That they thought we would find them to be POSITIVE ROLE MODELS made me realize just how little they thought of is. Horrible place.

I think what a lot of people don't realise, with regard to Upham's reaction in Saving Private Ryan, is that not all the soldiers who were conscripted into World War 2 joined the army voluntarily - at least, certainly not in the UK. By the time it got to 1943-44, and many young men had already died, ALL men of 'fighting age' without disabilities or other medical restrictions were being sent letters by the government pretty much ORDERING them to join up, or have a couple of officers show up at their house to 'escort' them to the nearest military training camp personally. This meant that men who were *completely unsuited* to being soldiers were being shoved into a uniform, handed a gun and given only the most basic of combat training, and then sent off to war zones and told to get on with it. (Spike Milligan's war memoirs are a very accurate, brilliantly funny and heartbreakingly tragic account of what life was really like for these unwilling 'volunteers.') Upham was a writer and a poet before he wound up fighting in combat - if the war wasn't happening, there's no way he would've chosen to be a soldier for his career. Damn right he reacted EXACTLY the way ANYONE who would never choose to join the military if they didn't have to would react. Any 'armchair soldiers' trying to claim they would've Done The Heroic Thing in those circumstances are deluding themselves, frankly.
@rickmoreno7166
@rickmoreno7166 13 күн бұрын
If I remember right, it's also stated at the beginning of the movie that Upham has NEVER fired a weapon since basic training. So he's certainly not going to be comfortable doing so, and his reaction is totally understandable. I never understood why folks ragged on his character so much, people are such assholes.
@All5Horizons

That’s not a sound argument. It rests on some assumption that only a volunteer and experienced soldier would help someone in mortal danger. That’s not the case. Upham is very authentic. Someone who has not been faced with charging into a life and death situation cannot understand the crippling fear, he is literally the deer in the headlights. I’m more optimistic about Tom at the end of 500 days of summer. For JGL to call him the villain is a bit extreme. Even Summer herself said that Tom was right about romance but that it just wasn’t her he was right about. So the right woman is out there for him, and maybe from his experience with Summer, he’ll be able to see more clearly which one fits him better and his yearnings for the couple life. There’s nothing wrong with being optimistic about who you meet, what becomes a problem is being optimistic near to the point of delusional where you don’t ever see the flaws in your relationship until it’s over.

One I see go under peoole's radar all the time is: KHHAAAAANNNNN! Is not Shatner overacting Kirk's anger at Khan leaving him stuck in a cave on Regulus while promising to blow up the Enterprise with Kirk powerless to stop him. What that shout is really is Kirk playing up his anger and outrage to stroke Khan's ego, to make the genetically engineered superintelect human, under-estimate Kirk and the Enterprise. One scene later it is revealed thst the Enterptise was not as damaged as Spock said, because his repair estimates were coded to be exaggerated. Kirk knew this the whole time Khan was bragging to him. So that iconic scene is a lot more clever than generally given credit for. And then "Into Darkness" missed the entire flipping point.
@Ceares
@Ceares 9 күн бұрын
I mean the whole reboot series missed the point so that's not surprising. Superb casting wasted on three generic space action movies with the same damn plot -bad guy's family/friends/crew/loved ones died in a way that he blames the federation for. He loses his mind and goes on a rip roaring rampage of revenge which the Enterprise crew gets caught up in and has to defeat him.

What I was thinking. As cute as Forky was, Toy Story 4 was completely unnecessary. Of course, realistically, you can't blame a little child for choosing whatever toys she wants to play with, rather than sentimentality. BUT the writers made us fall in love with Woody, with Andy, and their relationship. THAT relationship was not only pivotal to the movie but practically sacred. The ending of Toy Story 3 was meaningful to everyone who loved the trilogy. They set that up and then wrote BONNIE to be the one to throw all that away. Forky could have been in a very cute Pixar short set in the Toy Story universe, and that would have been fantastic.

I never saw whiplash any other way. Fletcher is an abuser, a calculating psychological manipulator. The point of the exercise for him is to bully the kid and break his will by telling him he got wrong, regardless of whether he did or not. Fletcher is one of movies’ best, most authentic screen villains. That’s supported by the way he flips between nice and nasty, holding out the carrot and then using the stick. A technique common to abusers called, “gaslighting,” where he can flatly deny the events preceding the current moment, like they never happened. The final scene represents the kid breaking free of his abuser, doing his own thing, regardless when Fletcher is, for the first time, powerless to prevent him.

Breaking the speed of light does not mean you travel back in time. it only appeares that you travel back in time. Light takes about eight minutes twenty seconds to reach the Earth from the Sun, this includes visible light, or what we can see. If a ship travelled from the Sun to the Earth at eight times the speed of light, it'd complete the journey in about 62.5 seconds. If an observer on that ship had the means to view their point of departure at the sun they'd notice that a "visual echo" can still be seen of the ship for about seven minutes at the sun because that is how long light takes to travel that distance, and what we see is limited to the speed of light. This gets even more complex because they'd also see themselves in reverse until the travelling visible light catches up with the faster than light ship. the closer light would be the most upto date, while the further light would be further back in time. Therefore you don't actually travel in time it just appears that way. If Superman was to travel at the speed of light he'd complete about 7.5 circuits of the Earth every second. He's not going back in time he's just covering a vast amount of distance every second. Backspinning the Earth to reset time, as stupid as that sounds, is actually more believable than Suoerman travelling back in time. Plus after he puts things back in time he then reverses his spin attempt to reset the correct spin of the planet and therefore allow time to flow all normal again.

Superman - The impression that Superman is causing the Earth to spin backwards isn't helped by the fact that when he stops and then reverses direction, the Earth begins rotating forward again, as if he is reversing what he's just done. To me a much bigger problem is that he goes back in time, and doesn't actually appear to do anything to prevent the disasters that lead to him wanting to go back in time in the first place. Are you validating the idea that no matter what, people who get offended are always in the right, and that the intentions of the offender are irrelevant?

@@themysteryofbluebirdboulevard No and no. I get racially insulted every day but I don't care. I know what the intent is. It is not a question of 'right' and 'wrong' but of cultural relativity.

I don’t know who started that pseudo-intellectual take on Saving Private Ryan, but it needs to stop.

But why would Boba go to the empty helmet. (Also, that shadow of the head could be a later addition. George does that sometimes.)

You expected him to pick up his dad's head? WTF dude?!

@@rideredRC51 Haha, or he could run close to the head at least. 😅 The helmet is the less important thing at this moment.

The shadow was there from the first release, it wasn't added in later

@@alexp601 Thanks for checking that up. Unfortunately, that means, that the scene makes no sense. 😬

@@marcneef795 I didn't have to check it up, I just knew 🙂. What doesn't make sense? He picked up his dad's helmet to mourn him, which is a lot less gruesome than him picking up his dad's severed head, plus it sets up him wearing his dad's helmet when he's older. I don't see anything wrong with the scene.

THANK YOU for the Superman/Earth rotation thing. It was always obvious to me, even as a kid, and I could never understand how people thought he reversed the rotation of the planet. 👍🏻
