I wish it was never conceived, then Tatum might have been Cable. Looks more like him than Brolin, has the physique for it and he can do serious and comedy well.
@wallywest47276 жыл бұрын
Tatum would be awful for Cable, for starters Cable is much older then Tatum and Cable is insanely gruff what Tatum isn't plus Tatum is a pretty boy what Cable really isn't. If Tatum has to play a comic book character it should be Shazam as he would be perfect for him.
@EmphaticNod6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Tatum is a decent actor with the right material, but I don't think he has the chops to play a pre-existing character with a personality so different from his. In my opinion, he just isn't suited to play MOST comic book movie characters, period.

In fairness I have to agree with the director for Bioshock. Keeping it R18+ would ensure that the movie could properly go through the plot where as if the studio execs got their way and it was made PG13 you would get something completely unrecognisable.
@lancerguy36676 жыл бұрын
Sadly, by the time the movie was being tossed around, producers had convinced themselves that an R-rates movie was just impooooosible to make money with. By the time deadpool finally proved them definitively wrong, the IP's peak popularity had passed

It could be done with pg-13, it would just be difficult. If it was pulled off, it would likely be better than what they could make with R, but any misstep at all would ruin it, whereas R leaves the director some easy ways to maintain the tone, it just makes the budget harder to work with because studios consider R to be a bigger risk.

@sporf_sporf6 жыл бұрын
When done right you can actually get away with a lot in a hard pg-13 and the movie is stronger for it, but you really have no margin for error. R would give you wiggle room to properly set the tone and tell the story, but then you have less wiggle room on the budget, because R rated movies are rarely blockbusters now like they were in the 80's and 90's.

I wouldn't mind if they'd just kept making TRON: Uprising. The art style for that all-CGI cartoon was kinda weird, but the story - which took place between Flynn's disappearance in the '80s and the "present" events of TRON Legacy - was pretty good. Sadly, it left off on a cliffhanger after only two seasons, and it's been at least five years since Season 2 ended… :(

That's what I was thinking. Since It made so much money I think Hollywood might be less gun shy about R-ratings. At the very least maybe they'll stop churning out shitty PG-13 horror movies.
@mnArqal936 жыл бұрын
Bioshock doesn't need to be a r-rated film, but it doesn't need to a Disney film either. With how badly studios screw up game movies (and anime by the looks of it) I'd rather not, they have source material to work with and they still go wrong. I think most games would work better as a tv (or Netflix) series, especially RPG games. I say a series because of the detail that gets left out of films, I mean Prince of Persia Sands of Time spent the last 30mins with the Sands of Time, it hardly appeared before like what?? They were looking to make a Metal Gear Solid and Mass Effect film at one time, so glad they didn't. Although I haven't seen it yet, I have heard the recent Tomb Raider is good, so perhaps there's hope for game movies after all???

Ghost in the Shell was fine. You could see the nods to the Puppeteer story all through it. You actually don't want a "faithful" movie adaptation, because it would be shit, and you'd be sad. That movie was pretty clearly setting up for a sequel too, only Batou got anything like enough screen time for what should have been an ensemble movie. Also, no movie goer who isn't already a fan of GitS is going to sit through 20 - 30 minutes of metaphysical musings on the nature of life and conciousness as an ending, anime / manga is the natural home of the longer stories in that world.

What's interesting, What Culture, is that you mentioned the "Confederacy of Dunces" curse; eeriely similar is the equally cursed screenplay "Atuk", based on the 1963 novel " The Incomparable Atuk" by Mordecai Richler. Both screenplays had the same actors tapped to play the main characters, who then died, and both are avoided at all costs by Hollywood because of alleged curses. I had never heard of the one you mentioned, so at first I thought you had it wrong, but I looked both of them up and noticed the similarities. Creepy, huh?

Don't lose hope. This video came out a year ago, when I was still mourning the seemingly dead Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic that was going to star Sacha Baron Cohen. Yesterday I saw the trailer for the 2018 Queen film starring Rami Malek, and it looked promising. I _loved_ The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. It's easy to picture as a film during our current comic book film mania. "Confederacy of Dunces" is always relevant, and Will Farrell would have been great, but I'm superstitious and can't fault anyone for being wary of waking JKoT's cursed mummy. Just as we're all glad the book was published and found it's way to the rest of us, despite him not living to see it, I think we'd feel the same about a film adaptation.

"Star Blazers." In 1974, the animated series "Space Battleship Yamato" debuted in Japan and since became an Anime legend. The (HEAVILY) edited adaptation "Star Blazers" debuted in 1978 and developed a small, but loyal following among the first generation of Anime fans. In 2010, a live-action Japanese version was released and rumors of a live-action American version have persisted since the 1990s. There was even a rumor that Disney had purchased the rights to "Star Blazers;" but nothing solid has ever materialized.

It would be AMAZING if Disney did a Tron 3. The single best cinematic 3D experience I've ever had.

Ghostbusters 3 was KINDA made. There was a really good Ghostbusters video game written by Ackroyd and voiced by the original VAs. The plot is genuinely good and many people consider it canon

Bart S Gremlins 3 would have CGI Gremlins now. I like practical effects. The effects of making the creator rest seem so real is what made the first 2 so good. Now I would only want it if a director that was a fan of the first two and stuck with the same kind of effects would make it. CGI would feel artificial in a movie like that. Plus the two main actors are getting old. I don't know if Howie Mandel stop lol wants to do the Gizmo voice.

We never got that X-Files 2012 Mayan calendar alien invasion and colonization of earth movie Duchovny wouldn't shut up about. And as much as I liked the look and style of the Dune 80's theatrical version it was still hit and miss. And they had to substitute the Baron Harkonnen's pedophilia with Sting in a space codpiece. By the time the Syfi miniseries came along fantasy films like the Star Wars prequels were too busy playing catch up with The Lord of the Rings visual style. Even John Williams was trying to sound like Howard Shore and the Dune tv films just looked over stylized and tacky. Now that Frank Herbert is dead and his son and his ghost writer have laid waste to the stories another Dune film would be horrible.

Agreed. Some things shouldn't be adapted for screen.

Fun fact: Quentin Tarantino had plans for Pulp Fiction to be a franchise. Over the years three sequels were talked about.

Waiting for Tron3... Legacy simply has blown my mind at the time. Amazing visual and art production, scenary, the vehicles of Daniel Simon, Jeff Bridges', Olivia Wilde's and Garret's acting, Daft Punk at the soundtrack... A cinematic event that may never repeat :(
