I found gold right here, it is extremely difficult to find good information about stonework, but now y know what type of chisel do I need as a beginner. I'm looking forward to watch more video like this! Thanks so much for your information.

These videos are the best orientation for stone carving on the Internet. Clear, detailed, easy to understand instruction. And, how could you not like Mr. Jaber? I just wish there was more of a documented body of work by Mr. Jaber. I've been on his site and have viewed many videos but few examples of his finished executions are available. Especially large, complex carvings. I believe they would add more credibility for Mr. Jaber and inspiration for those watching the videos and who are considering signing up for private instruction. If Mr. Jaber would consider producing a compilation video of his most complex and detailed creations I'm certain it would be a joy for all.

A student on my Stone Carving Workshop sent me this link, and I think it's an excellent summary of tools. I think every professional stonecarver would suggest slight variations to your suggested capsule collection of tools - for example, I'd favour a dummy hammer + a medium vinyl mallet rather than a dummy hammer + and a pitching hammer, and I favour mallet headed claws, but nevertheless your video is really excellent. A very useful contribution to the field of stonecarving by hand.

Just out of curiosity about how much does a pneumatic hammer that you can use for both blacksmithing and stone carving cost, i have a massive compressor, the thing is borderline industrial sized. I also am planning on forging bronze as well but that is something I probably have the strength to do by hand, my forge is probably over a century old, its coal fired with a hand cranked blower if that helps.

@Bos_Taurus

That is great, but could you recommend a suitable stone for us rookies
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 7 ай бұрын
Good questions. For beginners, I recommend starting with limestones in the softer range, ideally with a hardness of 2 or 2.5 on the Mohs' scale. If the stone is too soft, the chisel will not have enough resistance to carve through, while if harder - like marble - it might be a bit frustrating to start with.

Athar, where do you buy you're marble, do you get discounts from the quarry since you're a professional artist? I can't find a wholesaler in Canada that will send me a block from Italy, do quarries sell direct to customer's I dunno but I wanna know lol, how much does marble cost in Italy?
@AtharJaber
@AtharJaber 2 жыл бұрын
I order the marble in Carrara myself, but I usually go there to choose the blocks. I can imagine that getting marble shipped from Italy to Canada is not easy. Vermont marble is also a very good quality. Wouldn't it be easier to get in touch with quarries in Vermont? Also, check out this page: www.sculpturechannel.com/tools-suppliers/ There's a reference to a stone tools supplier in Canada, they might be able to help you.
