I would argue Obscured By Clouds is even more overlooked/overshadowed than Meddle in the Pink Floyd discography.

I kinda of agree with you on this one but let me push it further and ask what about the Final Cut? As overshadowed as can be. Yes I know everybody thinks it's a Roger Waters only album but still it's under the PF name so... and yes it may not be as good as lots of other Pf albums, still, doesn't it have it own merits? It's definitely no my favorite PF album but it was not bad either.

@@brunohebert1351 I hated Final Cut when it was released - I was 22yo. I decided to give it another chance during the UK's first C19 lockdown and now think it is a much under-rated album. It will never hold up against the 3 albums that preceded it but it is much better than it is given credit for imho.

@@brunohebert1351 I like The Final Cut better than The Wall, the concept and idea is more realized, The Wall has some great songs, but also a lot of filler.

Interesting topic. Fully agree with your Nirvana, NIN, and Pink Floyd choices. I would say even more criminally overlooked is the first side of Floyd's More soundtrack. Really great stuff on there.

I bought that Black Crowes as a 45 box set new in 96. It was one of the very rare moments I found new vinyl in a CD store during the 90s. New vinyl was so rare in the 90s, I could tell you when and where I got every single one lol. I found the 10" pic disc of " one mirror too many" at a record convention

"Meddle" is it for me. I'm 70. Echoes is a windy, cloudy November day at Conant Park in Hillside NJ in 1969 with friends after having dosed. (Yes, I know that Meddle was released in 1972 but I heard it in the wind). I'll pick "The Who By Numbers".

It’s honestly hard to say if The Fragile was overshadowed. Rolling Stone named the tour that supported it the best tour of the year, those shows were packed just on the strength of people wanting to see the band, period, but they were introduced to a number of the songs from the album as a result. Multiple movies have used songs from the album, especially “300..” I mean I didn’t see “With Teeth” as any kind of huge resurgence that was bigger than The Fragile to cause people to kind of forget about it nowadays. I think the one thing that can be said is that it just didn’t have the big singles of the other albums. But I don’t think that prevented it from being popular and/or highly regarded. I think people definitely paid attention to it at the time exactly because of the hiatus you mentioned and most of the reviews were positive. But I do still get why you would put it on the list. It just seems like a more conceptual, experimental piece compared to the rest of their catalog. But you and I are the same age (I discovered based on one of your earlier videos) and it definitely felt like a very substantial somewhat commercial album at the time it came out. Even something as simple as the performance of the title track at the 99 VMAs maybe a few weeks or a month before the album dropped definitely built up the hype, as well as all the magazine articles (back when there were still physical music magazines) 😄

I hear you. Thinking back to that time it was HIGHLY anticipated for sure. And my god that tour was mind blowing to see. I was thinking more about how it's perceived today, by the masses - and through that lens feels under appreciated to me. Only because PHM and Spiral had the bigger, more accessible hits like you said.

I always thought the Montrose album with Sammy Hagar somehow gets occasionally ignored. Such a fantastic album with not much studio trickery or overbearing effects. And Sammy's vocals fit so well with the arrangements. I know Rock Candy gets played a lot but you can't go wrong with that Bonham feel intro and the heavy riffs. Great listen.

You could broaden this by bands being overshadowed or overlooked or ignored, for example the great band Family from the late 60’s70’s. They did 7 albums in 5 years. A period when so many bands from that era that had their best albums. This band toured the US but somehow were never that popular as they were in the U.K./Europe. I saw them around 1970 and they were definitely one of the best bands to see live, Roger Chapman has one of the best voices in rock and some critics think he is one of the best ever!

Very interesting video GI thank you many good shouts there. Bleach was my very first thought and not only that I thought it would probably be the album that gave you the idea - and then you said it! 😂 One of my very favourites - and arguably their best record i do play it often, possibly only second to Incesticide in that regard which I find myself slinging on all the time that 2LP 45rpm repress sounds phenomenal! Great shout on Meddle it is definitely in my top 3 Floyd albums - I would say along with Animals and DSOTM. Three Snakes - yes you’re talking about me there - I’ve never heard that one despite loving the first 3 albums! I’ll throw some others into the mix starting with ‘Yield’ I think over the years that’s become my favourite - and most listened to PJ album. How about ‘Between the buttons’ it’s one of my favourites of theirs I think that gets overlooked in the Stones’ back catalogue it sits in between their classic early records and their run of amazing albums from ‘Beggars Banquet’ through to ‘Exile on Main Street’. Take care

@@Stuck_in_the_70s Wish I had Yield on vinyl! Nice! I think a lot of Pearl Jam fans jumped ship after some of the more esoteric and low key albums they put out after Vitalogy, and while I like ALL PJ albums, Yield was definitely a return to more aggressive sonics and filled with catchy songwriting and hooks! Eddie's incredible voice simply elevates anything they put out and stellar chemistry of band is always present. Really digging their latest albums as well! Special band and when you put em' on a stage - MAGIC , EVERY TIME OUT! Cheers!

@@treff9226 I’m super pleased to have it on vinyl - I have the first five albums OG presses (I have 2 copies of Ten - the regular European press and the basketball picture disc) I have a couple of live albums (Live on Two legs [Yield tour] and Unplugged) and then I have the most recent 3 on vinyl so I do have some gaps to fill! 100% agree with you. I went to see them live last summer I think it was the 5th time I’ve seen them over the years and they are still as good as ever! Yes I like their recent albums a lot too I hope they continue to release quality albums. I’m not sure of the details but I did see they’ve got a live album coming out for RSD with a Yield-like cover (with the road sign) so will try to pick that one up. Take care cheers

Jason Everman didn’t actually play on Bleach, he just paid for it to be recorded and is on the front cover. The band never paid him back, but felt the fact he was on the cover was payback enough. The issue I have with Bleach, being an ok album especially given how it was recorded and hosw little means they were able to pu it in, is the over hype that came on it after the passing of Kurt. It was overshadowed at the time but after not so much (the labels wanting to milk as much as possible a band that was done). I like Bleach for its rawness but it has been a little too over hyped afterwards to me.
@NTXVinyl
@NTXVinyl Жыл бұрын
I can see that. Looking back now, 34 years later, I don't feel it gets near the attention it deserves. I can tell you from my end as far as what people buy and ask for - Nevermind far outweighs Bleach and In Utero. One would think Nevermind is an album everyone already owns, but that's not true, so it still sells a ton.
