As a fan, one thing you must really hate is when your club is in a very dire situation which causes them to lunge into the transfer market for quick fixes. We all saw how that worked out for Barcelona with Coutinho, Chelsea with Torres, Liverpool with Carrol, among others.
But here’s the thing; not all purchases of this nature have been horrible. As it turns out, some turned out to be just perfect. Here are 10 panic buys that turned out to be successful.

I can understand Casemiro being listed as a panic buy since they failed in their pursuit of de Jong, but Berbatov and Rooney was looked at for a long time before they ended up at United. United just have a tendency being very slow sometimes. Berbatov was linked the whole summer if I remember correct, and on deadline day City got new owners and suddenly was interested, but he chose United.

Because Real Madrid was already a successful club with or without Casemiro but before Casemiro joined the club Man U was struggling and after Casemiro joined Man U it fixed their defence and united is back to the glory days….. I could be wrong tho it’s just my perspective

Casemiro wasn't a panic buy, ten hag is a genius, regardless of what people said i always believed in ten hag and look where he's comming up to now, from mid table to top 3 in the league, from Europa league to next CL competitors. This guy has always been a genius and learned from his mistakes, this showed especially well against Manchester City in the derby. We need him, no one else other than the main man SAF himself can fit into the spot or Jose.

Casemiro deal was finalised back in July. He was never a panic buy. Yes they tried to get De Jong but Casemiro was a sure shot buy.

Nope!! Casemiro deal was finalized on August 22, 2022 UK time!! It was only 9 days from the closing time!! And it was definitely a panic buy because FDJ refused to join Man Utd. If FDJ joined Man Utd then they wouldn't have signed Casemiro since they only have the money to sign one of them and NOT BOTH OF THEM!!

@@ulrichleukam1068 The definition gets a little wavy in Bruno's case. There were rumours about Man Utd buying him but NO approach came from the club. No enquiries, bids nothing. The only epl to actually make a bid was Spurs...which was rejected. Man Utd signed Bruno almost on deadline day in January after Man Utd had an injury crisis. So it did seem more panicky than planned.

Berbatov was not a panic buy. Utd basically negotiated with Spurs for ages as they were not willing to sell at all. They eventually conceded at the very end of the window.

Was casemiro really a panic buy? After all, negotiations had gone pretty far by the time united lost to brentford 4-0 to the point where united chiefs were actually panicking at the possibility that he would suddenly change his mind after that performance.

2 massive inaccuracies in this list, firstly Cantona was not a panic buy, it was done before transfer windows were a thing and came about because Howard Wilikinson wanted to buy Denis Irwin & Sir Alex opportunistically asked about Eric. Also Rooney was far from a panic buy as he had been in Ferguson’s plans from before his made his Everton debut, it was transfer negotiation brinkmanship that left it so late in the transfer window. When you say “panic buy” you imply it’s an afterthought and neither of these qualify
