Thanks to Artiste Audio, we had some time to make 10 patches on the MOOG DFAM. We hope that it could give an idea of the character of this amazing synthesizer!

Thanks Hector. There is no processing exept a limiter to boost the signal for the video but most of the time there is no gain reduction at all.

thats really the only demo i found that i like and sounds like i expected this to, still not sure if it is what i want, i would like to have a simple roland like drum step sequencer combined with 6 (or at least 4) analog voices like this, like a keystep and 6 DFAMs, too expensive and taking too much space of course....

@josehaya6362 6 жыл бұрын
Amazing! Would you recommend it to people with no other modular? Is it ok as a stand alone?
@WiredBrain
@WiredBrain 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jose ! It is a fine machine on is own but it does lack a slow modulation source and also keep in mind there is no midi so you need a midi to Cv converter to sync in to your DAW or midi based synth / drum machine.

Hi im a noob on the synths world but i like dem a lot, just wanted to know that if i buy on of these things, what else do i need to make it work, to make it sound, thank you
@WiredBrain
@WiredBrain 3 жыл бұрын
You just need to plug it into an amplifier or and audio interface to be able to hear it (I don't remember if the audio out is headphone compatible tho, you might find this in the manual).
@davearnold4426
@davearnold4426 3 жыл бұрын
a lot of these videos usually have the gear plugged into an FX unit. Delay and Reverb go along way towards smoothing out the sound of a synth. It took me a while to get that I was missing that from my rig. If you're going strait into a DAW, no worries you can just use plugins; but, if you're planning on performing live then it would be helpful to get an FX pedal/unit. Really, reverb and delay are more than icing on the cake. They're both pretty essential. Even something cheap would go a long ways towards making a beautiful sound.
@WiredBrain
@WiredBrain 3 жыл бұрын
@@davearnold4426 True ! Any reverb or echo you might add will make things more "you" or more alive. Tho the DFAM might be one of the few synthesizer I like the raw sound with no FX added, mostly due to it's percussive nature.
@davearnold4426
@davearnold4426 3 жыл бұрын
@@WiredBrain Yeah, the DFAM is definitely an interesting sounding instrument and you wouldn't necessarily want to drown it in too much reverb or delay; but, having a touch of reverb can help any synth sit in a more natural space that is more pleasing to the ear. I'd also say that the DFAM is not a beginners Synth. I had the DFAM about 2 years ago and returned it because I was not able to understand how each knob contributed to its sound. Now, after working with analog synths for the last 2 years, I feel I'm ready to try the DFAM again and am looking to get my hands on one again.
@chrisdoel2778
@chrisdoel2778 3 жыл бұрын
Don't buy one of these if you're new to synthesizers. It's a real faff to sync up to a laptop and it's not a proper drum machine. It's great (I have one) but as a beginner I'd get a more traditional drum machine or sampler. To make a track using one of these you really need to sample a range of sounds from it (kick, bass, percs, synths and other sounds) then layer them up in a DAW or sampler anyway.

I'm trying to figure out patch 10. I can't get it, I went full screen while start and stopping with no success. Its a nice patch, I cant see "Sequence pitch mod" switch, is it off. I cant get VCO 1 and 2 to sound right with each other. I really wish the DFAM had a little better sequencer. Thanks anyways
@WiredBrain
@WiredBrain 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, it's mostly a thing of modulating the filter with one of the VCO and sequencing the Noise Level with one row of the sequencer. I think this very simple sequencers are great in their limitations and there's lot to do with those when clocking them externaly with less steady signals ;-)
@Mr2it3881
@Mr2it3881 3 жыл бұрын
@@WiredBrain I should have been more clear, its the knobs. I like the sequencer, hell of a lot better than the Mother 32. I wish the knobs were bigger.

What about the lack off midi? How do you sync it to say a mother 32 and keep in time?
@WiredBrain
@WiredBrain 6 жыл бұрын
There is an input in the patchbay called "Advance" that move the sequencer forward when it receive a trigger so you can sync it that way, you can also clock external devices with cv in using the "trigger" output of the DFAM.

This could be a nice MTV video, but sound wise is cheap, there's no sound shaping and creativity. Less camera, more modulation.
