Back in the 90's the government cut way back on spending for mental health care. We used to have mental health departments. Gradually they've continued to cut back on spending, until now most of the people that could have gotten help are in prisons across the country, they are the bulk of the homeless, they self medicate with drugs. My nephew works there and was just parking his bike to go into work when an officer ran up to him and told him to leave because there was an active shooter. My brother had to rush home from work and pass this just after it happened. He saw bodies lying on the ground in the parking lot and the shooter being taken away into the ambulance. Our family has been such a wreck. Thankfully no one in our family got hurt, but the feelings that we’ve all gone through are only tiny fraction of what the loved ones of the people that were killed must be going through. This breaks my heart that we live in this kind of world.
