Incorrect. An innovation, at the suggestion of Vaughan Williams, was the inclusion of a hymn in which the congregation could participate. This proved controversial and was not included in the programme until Elizabeth had been consulted and found to be in favour; Vaughan Williams wrote an elaborate arrangement of the traditional metrical psalm, the Old Hundredth [All people that on earth do dwell ], which included military trumpet fanfares and was sung before the communion. The opening fanfare is indeed part of the composition, learn your history.

I did not say that the opening instrumental introduction of the arrangement of Old Hundredth was by anyone other than Vaughan Williams. I have sung this arrangement several times so I should know. I did not say that the inclusion of a congregational hymn was anything other than an innovation. I knew all about that but it's not relevant to my point. I am not talking about "Old Hundredth" at all: I am referring to *the very start of this clip* , the first 1m50s, which is *not* by Vaughan Williams. It is a fanfare based around a completely different metrical psalm tune, the Scottish tune "Montrose" and is by Sir Ernest Bullock. Then, at 2m00s, the congregation declaim the words "God save Queen Elizabeth, Long live Queen Elizabeth, May the Queen live forever." Only then, at 2m16s does "Old Hundredth" begin with its own instrumental introduction featuring trumpets. If you don't believe me, take a look at the Order of Service for the 1953 coronation and then look up the tune "Montrose" in a hymn book before having another listen to the video.

@@MrBulky992 I never stated that you had claimed that the opening fanfare was not by Vaugan Williams, rather than that at his suggestion the hymn 'Old Hundredth' was in fact specifically rearranged for the occasion of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II to include the very trumpet fanfare which you incorrectly claimed 'is nothing to do with 'All People That on Earth Do Dwell' (Old Hundredth) along with others which are interspersed throughout its entirety. Williams composition specifically included these, so they most certainly have everything to do with the arrangement he composed. Your op was therefore entirely inaccurate, clearly you also have a sub-primary school capacity in reading comprehension to have read my comment and drawn the irrelevant conclusions pertaining to its content that you have, unless in fact you have deflected to manufacturing non-existent and defective claims on my behalf and then deceitfully and amateurishly attempted to attribute these to me in order to deflect from facing the inaccuracy of your own op. If you truly feel being told to learn your history is 'rude' then you are clearly very hypersensitive and socially maladjusted as well as ignorant, however if you're going to attempt to bignote yourself upon a public platform you should stick to facts which your op most certainly did not. You having sung an arrangement several times does not afford your subjective opinion of asserted historical expertise regarding an arrangement which was specifically composed for a specific occasion any validity whatsoever rather than only provide further testament to your infantile nature. To be absolutely correct this is the Scottish metrical psalm different from the English church version.

The version of the tune of "Old Hundredth" and the words sung here are the standard ones you will find in anglican hymn books in England ("Hymns Ancient and Modern", 1922 standard ed., no. 166, and the "English Hymnal", 1933 ed., no. 365). I was brought up as an anglican and, neither at church in the 1960s nor at school (in England) did we ever sing the tune or the words differently from the way they are done here. [No.365 in "Hymns Ancient and Modern" lists 3 versions of the tune, of which the second shortens the first note of each line to a minim, but the first and third versions have the tune exactly as we are used to singing it. The "English Hymnal", originally published in 1906, does not include the version with the shortened notes.]
