Even if you paid the price for someone's sin, it is not a sufficient reason for them to go to heaven. To go to heaven, you will have done no evil and you will have done good. Therefore, it does not make sense for Jesus to pay for someone else's sins, and this gives people license to sin.

I dont know if you'll see this since the live is over, but ive been binging your question series while at work for about a month or two now, and i think God has sent me here to soften my heart and bring me back to Christ, and i think its working. I was raised in the church, was baptized at 12 (30 now) and ive long since fallen from the path, i was hurt a lot and in my ignorance of the word i blamed God and turned away from Him. I actually got married a couple weeks ago to my girlfriend of 9 years because through your education and my new understanding of the word i felt convicted because we were living in sexual sin (we have a beautiful 4 year old daughter who i now read a couple chapters out of a toddler bible to every night before bed) im still learning how to lead my family with renewed faith. Its almost exclusively thanks to you and how God is working through you. Thank you Pastor Mike, may God contine to pour blessings upon you and your family. There's a lot more, and a lot of questions i want to ask but that may be appropriate in a different setting. Have a blessed day.

Sometimes people think God should have given Adam and Eve more information about what would happen if they didn’t listen to him and listened to evil instead. The horrors wrought by the prince of this world can’t be overstated. Yet Adam and Eve had enough history and relationship with God that they were to stay in obedience through love for him, not through the threat of horrifying consequences if they didn’t listen. The greatest commandment is to love God with all that we are; not to obey upon threat of hell. It’s a sign of maturity to understand the proper motivation, and to cry out for help with unbelief and a lukewarm attitude instead of passionate love for Him. The consequences are all too real, but we should weigh our motivations.

@sivad1025 Tell us you don’t understand the greatest commandment without telling us you don’t understand the greatest commandment. When you ask your children to do something, you should want them to do it out of love and respect for you. You don’t start talking about the consequences for disobedience right out of the gate. We want our children to be motivated by love, not punishment. If your idea of parenting is always threatening your children when asking them to do something, then you’re feared as a bully, not respected. God provides consequences because he is just and holy, but he wants our primary motivation to be love. God is love, and we are told repeatedly that he is to be our first love, and that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is foolish for you to be whining about Hallmark, as if love were a sign of weakness or commercial in nature, and not the foundation for all the law and prophets.

Prophecy isn't predicting one anothers future. Prophecy is revealing the truth of God's Will.

I serve under a pastor who is one of the hardest working ministers I have personally known. Met us so many times when family members passed away. Drove 6 and half hours to Indiana when my sister passed away. I recall even one time he was on top of one of our church buildings working on the roof in the summer. He got sick, would come down and throw up then goes back up and keeps working. In my opinion, we under pay him but he is not by any means lazy or money hungry. I am so thankful for the pastor we’ve been blessed with!

Please pray for my dad. He had a ruptured brain aneurysm on April 8th. He was not expected to live but he is still alive in ICU. We are praying for his healing. He is doing better than doctors thought. Please pray for him.

Re: question 3. I grew up under a Calvinist church that was very good at telling us we were such terrible sinners, lower than an earthworm. I dealt with depression as a teenager because of this teaching. Praise God, I heard that God actually loves me through a Baptist church, and became Baptist. Still struggled many years with depression, til God finally convinced me that he loved me, and died for me! What an incredible thing to realize, changed my whole life!

But… we really were such terrible sinners. And God so loved us that He gave His unique Son to save us from our terrible sin! I’m sorry to hear that your church seemed to not get the balance right but I’m glad that you’re at a church where the love of God is preached and appropriately emphasised. I go to a (reformed) Baptist church as well. Bless you!

Yeah we’re terrible sinners and God is amazingly gracious. The Calvinists were right in that aspect. Maybe you just weren’t presented the fullness of the gospel. We are actually sinful and bad lol (much worse than any of us think).

@kamarwashington no. That is Calvinist thought. Once we are forgiven, we ARE NO LONGER SINNERS. We might sin and need forgiveness, but we have been freed from the bondage. YOU are a Calvinist.

That's why I strongly am against the calvinist doctrine.. it makes God into a god who only sent his son to die for some.. and i believe this doctrine hurts the sheep.. I'm so glad and happy you came out of it but not left the faith, praise the Lord!!!

Re question 5, l grew up in a JW household in the 80s and it was impressed on us that if we didn't go door to door then we would be blood guilty & our salvation was at risk! I'm glad now to share Jesus through love, not fear 🙌

I have been one of those people who have thought, "if you can't do it for free, your heart is really not in it, that it must not be sincere..." In life however I have been on the other end of a few things where I put a lot of effort into something... to see little or no pay... it is ultimately discouraging. Appreciate the answer about the question about getting paid for ministry. I had a real look back at some of my past thinking, during that.

I agree, hard work that is seen as valuable by others should be compensated in some form. A persons hard work surrounding the research of the Bible does no immediately equal they should work for free. Their time and expertise and experience has value.

I went to a creative arts college run by a church about 16 years ago. The final week of every year was "Prophecy Week", where a pastor of that church would prophesy over every student one at a time. I raised an eyebrow when I heard about this, but at the same time didn't want to rule out God actually working through the pastor in this way every year. The things said over each student were nice and all but after a while I started to notice... reruns? Especially when I completed three years and started noticing prophecies were used again the following year. Not to mention when I got one of these kind of generic prophecies, and then was asked what exactly I was studying, and suddenly the guy started filling in gaps in his prophecy after he had the right information. I believe prophecy is a spiritual gift alive and active today, but after that experience, I definitely have huge doubts when someone does it on demand.

There was one time I ran into a what I believe to be a real moment of prophecy. I was attending a smaller church with my friend and her family. At the end of the service, the pastor announced they will prayer over people who want or need prayer. At this stage in my journey I had become a bit of a skeptic and my faith was teetering on a knife’s edge. The prayer leader came over to me and said “I think I am supposed to pray for you.” I had sat there telling myself I don’t need prayer, even when I knew I needed it and I was struggling in my life, I was angry with God and just in a bad place. Out of respect I let him pray for me. He basically gave me hope; his prayer was one to encourage me and to trust my gut and God, that I may be struggling with something but that I needed to know God was still there for me. It was one of those moments that really shook me, but in a good way. I had sat there the whole time disengaged, and tried to not make myself noticeable during the prayer segment, and they came over to me. I often look back at that moment as one of those things that helped to bring me back. Through my friends and their love for me, God showed me that He was there, he knew my struggles, He knew my pain and sorrow, and He pulled me back. One of the genuine God moments that reinforces my faith and proves to me His love for us all, even to one who fought, blamed, and spat disgust towards God. I was being an immature child and God knew it.

Today's video is my favorite one thus far. I feel so encouraged! Thank you Mike. #10 spoke to me deeply and I believe all of what you said. It gave me the best spiritual hug and reassurance in my salvation. I have been praying for Truth because I was raised in the church and was not taught anything other than the doctrine I was raised in like most. As an adult I have been on a journey of understanding the Bible without relying on the lense I was raised with and become more open-minded. I pray for discernment and Truth. When I watch your videos they encourage me to be open-minded, dig into the Word as a whole, and how to study it. I love how gentle you are and firm when you need to be. I am still in the process of understanding a lot but I know Jesus Christ is my savior and that is a good foundation. :) And I am grateful for my husband who also directed me to your channel. You have been a help to him as well. Thank you for your time! ( and your wife's time who saved the day with the H2O😂).

Question 10 is a biggie! I would add, ”Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”‭‭(John‬ ‭20‬:‭29‬) That includes us! Not only that, Jesus didn’t merely come down to point out a few things and then retire or disappear - nope, He went to the cross and became sin that we might put our trust in what He accomplished.‭‬‬ We can all glory in that, knowing that what He accomplished is sufficient. We boast in Him. Period.🙌

RE QUESTION 2 (House Churches) The first Christians were all Jews and met in the temple precincts (Acts 2:46; 5:42), or in synagogues (Acts 9:2; 13:43; 19:8) established for that purpose, and where services were conducted according to long-established traditions (Acts 15:21) largely based on the Old Testament, as well as in their homes daily (Acts 2:46; 5:42). From the very outset, New Testament congregations in some locations met in places too large for house-churches. Even before the day of Pentecost around 120 gathered together (Acts 1:15). And, on the day of Pentecost itself they were all (i.e. when one includes any who had not been present in Acts 1:15, rather more than 120) *seated* together in one house (Acts 2:2). Clearly, these were not ordinary houses - very few houses today could boast such capacity! Three thousand were saved on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:41) and we are later told of five thousand who believed (Acts 4:4). Presumably not all were from Jerusalem, but those who were aren’t described as forming house-churches there. What we are told is that those who were saved on the day of Pentecost thereafter met in the temple precincts (2:46). Later believers in Jerusalem met there too - in Solomon’s porch (Acts 3:11; 5:12). See also Acts 12:1, 5, where believers in Jerusalem are described as a single gathering (was this the first mega-church?). In Ephesus, Christians met in a school (Acts 19:9). In James 2:2 we also find a reference to Christians’ place of worship throughout the diaspora being called synagogues (typically only here translated as ‘meeting’ or ‘assembly’ to disguise its real meaning), a term unlikely to have been applied to private homes. A Christian place of worship was also called a synagogue in the early 2nd-century Shepherd of Hermas.

Related to home churches, make sure to know about what groups or ministries they are a part of. I was a long term member of a home church/home Bible study ministry that was not biblically accurate and very controlling.

For question 3 I personally believe that when God says "cannot discern between their left hand and right hand" I think it's a figurative speech to mean they cannot discern the difference between right and wrong, for me that puts even more weight to the debased conscience that not only they but we also have and that despite that God cares deeply for us to know what is right and good and loving

1. The sufferings of Christ have a salvific value. 2. Insofar as Christ identifies himself with his Body (the Church), the sufferings of Christians are the sufferings of Christ. 3. Therefore, the sufferings of Christ's Body have a salvific value.

I am so grateful for Mike’s ministry. Sometimes I look at my own life with the small works I do for the Lord and think about the day of judgment for me and what is going to get burned up and what will actually be a reward. But when I think about Mike, I feel like he will be one of the people who will have great and abundant treasures in heaven along with many of the other amazing ministers of the faith. Praise God for allowing Mike to have this ministry and for Mike obeying the Holy Spirit to start it✝️❤️

Question 10. I think about thevsong by 4HIM "Isnt this a strange way to save the world". Sometimes it does seem odd when you thhink about God sending Jesus to redeem us.. And I think that every Christian has pondered it. I just always look at my hands and think, I didn't just get here. Someone made me. Someone has my best interests at heart. And that would be God, my Creator. Then I just look at all the beauty around me, and I feel God's Spirit within me. Then I'm not doubting anymore.

I take a different interpretation of Colossians 1:24. I think Paul is making a comparison between his own personal suffering and that of Christ. He is saying that he, Paul, has suffered less than Christ (hence a "lack" of suffering), but he is presently suffering (hence "filling up" this lack). Paul was getting closer to the same amount of suffering that Jesus did. He did not see some lack in Christ's suffering, rather he saw lack in his own when compared to Christ's. I see a practical example of, "follow me as I follow Christ."

Great explanation of #1 Mike, thank you. I think there is a lot of confusion about salvation vs. sanctification. And unfortunately, we humans are always trying to minimize what Jesus did and elevate what we do. To our own detriment! He paid it all. I am nothing without him and can do nothing to earn my salvation. Nothing. How great are his mercy and grace. Every day I surrender to him again and every day he helps me. ❤

Mike thank you for your honest assessment of RC. I was raised RC. 8 yrs. In catholic school. Lots of indoctrination I had questions early due to being an alter boy having to learn mass in Latin. Then poof it's gone.?? Limbo for unbaptized babies Then poof its gone!? Very serious formal service organ hymns Then overnight mass in English casual affair. So early on wind blown doctrine. Whatever was culturally accepted RC came along and adopted that change as they have all along. Praying to saints and deification of Mary never to me made sense. Anyways thanks for your ministry. Regarding question 8, I would add that the way God forgives us is He OFFERS forgiveness and we escape judgement by accepting that forgiveness by repentance. I would treat a criminal who broke into my house and stole something much much different if he decided to truly repent and apologize and seek to fix what he did. And that offer of forgiveness is always there.

To the person writing the 10th question, please read Ephesians 1:4 and 1 Peter 1:20. Jesus was chosen to be the saviour before any person were born! His sacrifice is offered to all of us! He wants to save us, he planned it before the world was created!

I worry about the whole evangelism thing. I've always dealt with really bad social anxiety and been awkward, and have trouble figuring out when and how to tell others about my faith. I pray for opportunities and God to speak through me but not much really ends up happening. I'm concerned that I'll have to give account someday before God about that when Idk how to even go about doing this and rely solely on his help in doing it to begin with.

#8: I’ve posted about this before, but it’s pertinent here, too. A young girl was assaulted by a classmate. She spoke to him telling him that she forgave him, but that she would still be contacting the police because she did not want him to do it to another. She was not motivated by revenge, but by protecting others. So I would ask a few questions: is it illegal? Does it harm others or have the potential to harm others? What is your motive and where is your heart?

Forgiveness is what is needed, not sacrifice. In his own words:." If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent." He did the same on the cross: "Forgive them for they know not what they do."

I couldn’t explain in the live chat but I am a full on “Jesus Freak” and I appreciate and trust your ministry more than I can tell you! I was just curious because I’m going through genesis again and I realized there’s over 400 years between Abraham and Moses so I wondered if it was an oral history that was passed down regarding creation and all that happened before Egypt! Truthfully, you could have said “The Holy Spirit gave Moses wisdom!” and I believe that’s a perfectly acceptable answer! My curiosity is more for educational purposes! So yeah! Thank you so so much!

Do you use Blue Letter Bible at all? I find it really helpful. For each verse/chapter/book, you can read commentaries from various people about what the passages mean and extra info about the text.

In the Book Of Moses - Moses wrote that Adam was instructed to keep a book of remembrance and that any who were called upon by God would write in it by the spirit of inspiration. Moses recorded that their children were taught to read and write, having a language which was pure and undefiled. This tradition would have been carried on through Seth, Methusaleh, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, all the way to Moses. Whats most interesting, to me, is that Moses records that Adam was visited by Jesus Christ, taught the gospel, and baptized before his death. If you look through the Bible you won't find any instance of criticism from the Jews towards John the Baptist or Jesus for ostensibly introducing baptism. Not one. They should have pitched an absolute fit like they did with anything else. This practice pre-dated Moses so the Pharisees didn't criticize it, ever. Google Book of Moses and read it for yourself.

I had never heard of this “treasury of merit” doctrine, but it sounds bizarrely transactional, having more in common with a chequing account than a spiritual reality. Wages are transactional, and we all know that the wages of sin is death. A gift - by definition - is not transactional.

About the sufferings of Christ, what you say is also supported by Psalm 69:9. The idea is that those who would reproach, or persecute, Christ or the Father can only do so by persecuting His followers. This will continue until Christ returns.

Genesis has toledoth statements which are either signature blocks or ownership indicators to tell us who the eyewitness of the event was. So, for the book of Genesis, Moses appears to have been an editor, rather than the author.
