Dude what's wrong with the old school design? I am actually sick of those modern design of the new phones.

I just don't want to buy another phone with a hole on the screen, so I choose Sony.

I am a Sony devotee. Sony is all around me in daily life. Xperia 1 ii is simply a phone built for me, pleasant interface, almost close to stock Os, great overall user experience and gladly using it because I don't mind those little nitpicks. Peace ✌

Ugh Im really baffled with the continous complaining about the "old" look.. It doesnt look old, its fantastic looking front and best part, nothing interrupts the screen. Gaming is done on PC/PS so that aint problem, speed IRL usage is awesome, benchmarks dont matter.

While every other company is putting holes and notches in their screens so they can be "bezel-less", I believe Sony did not want to follow that route because they want to preserve that 21:9 squared aspect ratio with that theater viewing like experience. I really hate holes and notches in my screen, its freaking ugly and bugs the hell out of me. Like a bug on your screen that you just want to smack the shit out of. Sony found the perfect screen size and the slight bezels added to it also allows them to put powerful front firing speakers, something you don't find in most flagship phones. I love Sony phones, because they don't follow the trends and what every other phone company is doing. Their phones are indeed geared towards the more "niche" and creative type of people. People complain about the refresh rate, but I would much rather have a 4k HDR OLED Display with 60/90hz, than a 120-144hz 1080p/1440p display. I can see why they chose that type of display, because they are integrating there tech from their high end professional camera's into this phone. For people who are into photography and video creation, you want that type of display over a 1440p/high refresh rate screen to really bring out the color and see all the details in 4k when viewing and editing. Also, they got a headphone jack lol.

I accept the high price, the brightness on sunny days. The other reasons are bullshit. The old fashion Look is much more elegant than other ones. The Fingerprint Sensor is in the best position. Modern fingerpringt sensorse on the display are horrible. Und because i don't play games the experia 1ii is the best smartphone i can bye that time.

I love the old school design, i dont use the facial unlock, i dont care about slow charging speed, i dont use the phone for gaming, i agree with finger print and 60hz refresh rate with you the dispaly brigness is ok, natural colors. the photo camera and video one is great. Expensive price? yes but you pay the realibility and durability in time, great bulding materials and inside materials

I did not know that there was a 90Hz 4k manufacturing process out there, so if Sony went 90Hz they would have had to go back to QHD or like Samsung did, at 1080p. That is a bit harsh. Also, fast charging damages your battery. The reason Apple and Sony have the slowest charging is to preserve your cycle count, via software. Making this a negative is silly as most normal people would think that is a good thing. OPPO admit that using 45-watt chargers take 3 cycles to charge 0-100 compared to one cycle at 15 watts. This is a "pro" camera phone, so to get the best out of it you will have to use the various apps (Pro and cinematic). I think most of us interested in photography do not find this an issue. Bezels, well if that is important to you then fair enough, but for me, I do not care, there are far more utilitarian positives for having those bezels (speakers). I hated it when the gimmicky in-display fingerprint sensors were born, give me the old-style any day, and drying my finger before I use it is not a big deal and stops me smudging the display. The heat has always been a problem of late with Sony phones but most of us buying this phone are not gamers so it is not that relevant. I did buy some thermal tape and stick it to the area where my Xperia 1 heated up and that seems to have solved the occasional heat issues. If you game a lot then buy a gaming phone, that is sensible. As for price, in the UK on a contract, the price is under £800 which is £400 cheaper than the S20 Ultra with crappy Exynos and its own camera issues. It looks a bit of a bargain in that comparison! The Xperia 1-11 is not perfect but it offers something different to the Android slabs that replicate each other. It is another choice though unlikely to revive Sony's smartphone business, it is a great effort and I think they are getting back to their best.

Recently Xperia 1 II update in 2020 July 26th, it added RAW format for only Photo Pro application, you should give try out the RAW format (NOTE: it's only internal storage for some reason image processing, hence better storage speed)

I guess I'm lucky in that I don't see many of these as negatives. I've had the 1ii since 18th June and the only thing that's annoyed me is the screen being dim when in bright light outside.

I've also been using the X1ii for just over a month too. While I've found the display to be difficult in direct sunlight, most of the time I'm confortable using it even with sunglasses and on a nice clear day. I did exactly that a week ago

Just bought my new Sony Xperia 1 II mirrored slate Dual Sim 5G HK version yesterday. Paid 1500$ CAD cash plus 20$ for a liquid screen protector. I just want to talk about it and show it off is how much I'm in love with it. By far best phone I've ever owned and best phone ever made.

I agree with all of them, but IMO they're not deal breakers mostly. My 3 major disappointments are actually the missing Sony Album app, gaming display issue (not full screen), and the default camera app (no control over HDR option). Other than that, I am quite happy with it, been using it for a week. I moved from an Xperia XZ and I can still say that it's a good upgrade.

Whats the best phone in your opinion for capturing photos from video? Do you need 4k60p image stabilisation and auto focus for this too work the best... My s9+ does it pretty well in 1080 but doesn't have image stabilisation in 4k. Great channel 👍

Years down the line and the Xperia still rocks... No issues. No drawbacks. No compromises, no complaints. But then again, I'm a grown man with at least half a brain, so I couldn't get around to playing with the phone in the wet just to prove something that really isn't worth proving. 🥂

60 htz is actually the limitation of snapdragon 865 for 4K not because of Sony.

Sony opted for slower charging (and HS power control) for battery care because unlike other companies, they care about those of less wealth who don't plan on buying a new flagship phone every 1-2 years.

Dude, when on gaming session, put on HS mode, plug in your charger, it power the phone directly not charging the battery so the heat a bit lower

I’ve had 2Samsung phones and 3 Sony Xperia’s from the smartphones in my life until I finally ditched android for good a couple of months ago. Sad to see Sony has not fixed some of their old issues. I did enjoy my Sony experience far more than my Samsung experience. But the low capacity battery combined with overheating while gaming , draining the battery fast eventual leads to very short battery life , which is what made me mainly leave them and replace them with Samsung , which I hated for other reasons.

Gaming - the handset has a game enhance mode which actually reduces the heat. Photography - has an easy to use pro mode, using alpha technology. Expensive price- Vs flagship phones to buy on a contract I found it was among the cheapest. Fingerprint scanner test- lying it on the table gives an unfair advantage to the others. Why not do a test while it's in the hand... ? I use the 1II and love the device as it suits MY needs .

For some reason when I watch videos on youtube and pause the video the the sound comes out of the earpiece instead of the speakers. And I have to pause the video and play it again or increase the volume to fix it any.

To me honestly the hole punch is a step backwards. It's certainly new and trending but it's not for me. I prefer an uninterrupted display with bezels and the bezels of the X1ii offer a great stereo experience. No complaints there.

Thank goodness Sony has placed back the fingerprint sensor where it initially belonged. To me that is THE MOST ergonomic position for it to access. Only downside is they are not improving the front cam, same old 1/3" 8mp sensor

I have to agree with #8. Even my old Blackberry Keyone with it's fingerprint scanner placed on the keyboard bad a better sensor and easier unlock than the Xperia 1 II's. It gets a bit frustrating

It looks great though the screen ratio should have been bigger. It should add facial recognition and fingerprint on the screen too. The last thing, it should have released sooner and built the hype a few months before the release.

I like the design, I don't mind the gaming part since I play on PC anyways. as for the price, most people waits until the second phone of the year to be release so the price drops quite a bit. finger print scanner is sensitive as always but hey. just clean your hands before touching your phone.

I like this design, 3.5 jack and sd card slot. But performance, that's a big question for me. Buying an expensive phone and facing performance issues not a big deal.

Hey guys I bought this phone around a month ago and about 3 days ago I inserted the sim card and begin using it but I encountered an issue. When I'm at home I use wifi and it works perfectly but when I leave home the phone doesn't connect to the data and every time this happens I have to restart the phone and it's getting annoying. Has anyone encountered this issue? Or does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Slow battery charging means longer battery life, pure physics brother. All those phones that have a marathon battery charging system are likely to lose life in two to three years. I always tell some dudes that Sony experias are the only phones that can die with their batteries still intact. The secret, good battery management system.

Xperia1ii is the best phone I've ever used, so much better than Samsungs shiet boxes...camera, design, screen, battery - everything about it is classy and amazing.

"cuz benchmarks" who the fuck cares about benchmarks? all that matters is real world performance. even in the PC segment benchmarks don't mean shit. especially when you can tweak certain aspects of a computer or phone to make them win or lose to your own liking.... and I can give a great example, out of the box, I scored a 901 while you scored a 900 and I scored a 3333 multi core while you only got a 3212...... already a difference. And yet in certain games, other phones barely able to hold 60fps, while mine holds 60fps the whole game regardless of the action going on in said game.... clearly, the phone is a champ in its own right. TECHNICALLY if all the phones have the same cpu, at the same clocks, they should all get the exact same performance. the variable performance means clocks must be different and change based on load, which is something a lot of new technology does. for shits and giggles I decided to run the test a few times, ive even pegged a 902 with 3357.... clearly, benchmarks are not reliable. as far as turning the phone on, that has to be the dumbest test. its as bad as these fucking fake nerds on reddit crying that "my intel used to boot in 5 seconds but my new amd rig takes 12 seconds" really? REALLY? what kind of CUNT would cry about that? i can't even continue to talk about this one.... would that time be necessary, like say someone is trying to kill you and an extra second is gonna be the difference between life and death? i doubt it..... slow charging speed? my phone charged form like 40 percent to 100 percent is no time at all. i didn't even notice how fast it was.... to complain about time once again, is a cunt thing. if you forget to charge your phone and need it maxed out in a hurry, youre a shitty person. most people are never gonna complain about charge times, they wont even notice, even then you can use the phone while its plugged into power, and you can turn on the battery saving mode which will run directly off cable power and ignore battery to prevent drain. i literally gamed for 2 hours and the battery didn't drop a single percent over that time as the whole phone was running on cable power. not only will this make the battery last longer, but slow charging is generally healthier for a battery. even when dumb fucks come in with their cars into my shop with a dead battery, but they don't want to buy a new one unless they NEED to, the first thing we do is "trickle" charge the battery, which means we let the fucker charge super slow overnight into the next day to see if it will hold said charge. most of the time this fixes the battery as quick charge actually kills batteries. meaning you will need a new phone more often. my old pixel xl was slow charge, had less amps and volts vs this sony, and the battery lasted 4 years of extreme use.... that's a long time. most other people end up with a dead battery in a year or two with "fast charge" phones. no thanks. also note that the sony by default has enabled that after you reach 90% battery, charged is slowed down to improve battery health. meaning charging to 100% will take a longer time just for that. sure you can turn it off, which it then warns you that you could reduce battery life. gaming wise, i dont notice the heat, it get no hotter to the touch than other other phone. your hand can't tell the different from one phone to another. so another useless performance metric that means absolutely nothing in the real world. not to mention, if you are gaming at home, plug the bitch in and use the H.S. power savings, thus it runs directly off the cable, it wont even touch the battery running only off cable power, and thus runs much much cooler. not to mention screen brightness will play a role in heat output. generally i play my games with realistic brightness, not maxed out like a moron. I upgraded to the xperia 1 mark 2 from my pixel xl.... which was also a 60hz screen. with the sony image enhancer aka black frame insertion, to mimic 90hz, its smooth. not to mention the screen is sony oled instead of samsung amold, which is a superior screen in terms of color accuracy. the pixel xl had amoled, and comparing colors side by side, they should technically be identical. and yet, the sony is better. even then you can run creator mode, which everyone should prefer because it gives you the purest most accurate colors. sometimes a color is supposed to be dull.... again, comparing to my pixel xl, brightness doesn't seem all that different. both phones i usually set about 50% brightness when im fully awake and about 30% brightness when im tired. and there is no issue with brightness. my only REAL gripe is the flashlight being so dim. camera, what issues? the pro apps are fucking minted. maybe if you are a fucking monkey who would be better off buying a polaroid then the camera is whack, but when using the professional control, you can get much better, accurate, pictures. granted, you could say its subjected, because if a retard prefers a blown out blurry zoomed picture, i guess thats on them for preferring crap. 1200 isn't ridiculous at all. maybe for some retard who still works at mcdonalds who can't even count out 10 nuggets or remember to put cheese on a cheese burger might have an issue with the price, but most of us, wont. im not the type to upgrade my phone every year, so screaming about price, laughable. the galaxy s20 ultra pos is 1500 in comparison and its a worse phone. worse picture quality from the camera, zoom is fucking worthless, and overall samsung is just shit. my brother uses nothing but samsung and has nothing but issues. he was gonna get the s20 ultra until he learned that 50x zoom was a fucking gimmick and made the picture quality look like a phone picture from the 90's....

I love Sony Design, and the problem with Iphone, Samsung etc is when your screen damage, you need to spend $$$ big bucks on repair why because your phone is totally dependent to screen. Unlike with the current one, even your screen is crack you can still use other like finger print etc. And the thing I hated in Samsung design is the camera location that have hole in the screen.

In terms of the “old school design”....man, this is THE best looking phone on the market, IMO. The bezels aren’t big, they’re proportionally perfect for the function they provide (front facing speakers). This is the ONLY android phone I’d consider buying, and the design is a huge reason why. My only complaints about this phone are the very poor selfie cam, lack of 5G in the US, sony’s weird software quirks, no night mode and the lack of color choices in the US.

wow wasn't expecting to have such a huge difference on price between global and my country. Xperia 1 ii is selling around 7300-7600hkd(USD940-980) in Hong Kong. In addition I think Sony isnt aiming at Gamer's market at all. Some of the disadvantages are acceptable. We use Sony's products because of Love.
