First big gig was 3 months ago. Infront of the whole school for the first battle of the bands. We beat all the seniors lol we won!! about 1500 people - kids and teachers. Played for whom the bell tolls, i sung and played guitar it was AWESOME!!!

The social aspect really is such an underrated part about being in a band and performing. The energy from crowds is great, but the social bonds you make with bandmates and others lasts.

I so miss playing live Alex! My band had its first ever gig in February last year! And it went fantastic! We played for 50 minutes and for about 100 people! It felt amazing and so far is the best night of my life. (I'm 14). So yes, I am also very excited for the time we can hit the stage once more!

I miss playing live! Right before going on stage we used have a few beers. Playing live in Japan is insanely great.

My last gig I played was May 2017. Then the band just internally exploded, sadly. Then a friend and I started a three piece instrumental band that the only was I can describe is ambient stoner prog. We had 5 songs fully tight, nearly an hour of material and were ready to look for gigs and the guitar player went awol. Never heard from him again. Man I miss gigging.

Just seen the video about the things you don’t miss being in a live band ,,, and I thought now I’m glad I never got into a band,, even though I have been playing 40 years. Now I’m watching the video your doing now on things you miss about being in a live band,,, and now I’m thinking,, wow I should have gotten into a band! The reason I didn’t was bad stage fright! And none of my friends played instruments by the time I was getting good on guitar,, and then got married had children and had to have a steady pay check,,, just wasn’t in the cards for me. But all those years there was never a time I didn’t have an electric guitar,,, and always enjoyed playing them ,, and still honing my skills and working on my style,,, I’ve come up with some innovative stuff. That’s what I love about playing,, when you’re jamming and you come across something different,,, and you develop it into something that sounds cool! Sorry went off for a minute! Hey Mike. I really enjoy your videos and thanks for posting this one. I also miss playing live. The part I miss most is being on that edge before the show. I also was a Martial Artist and spent many years in competition. Being on stage also gives me that edge like before a tournament starts. But I would like to know what your feeling are towards the future of guitar based music these days. Thanks and best wishes with your channel.

Played a show at Harrah's in Cherokee NC and the entertainment director was a former member of The Atlanta Rhythm Section. Not an original member but a later member just the same. He was a super nice guy and told us many stories about his playing in that band. I wish I could remember his name. Once we opened at a fair for Gary Puckett. Talk about the definition of class and grace, he was it. He was super supportive and even gave us a little pep talk before the show. He said don't leave anything on the stage, give it all you got. There is an old Slade song called The Whole World Is Going Crazy. There is a line in it that rings so true. It goes "We all get our kicks playing in a Rock and Roll band yeah, there's nothing like the feeling when you give it all you got and people want to shake you by the hand".

Funny I guess being older I've never gone to a concert to see a band I liked and cared about lights or fireworks or any of that crap, just went to hear music. But then I started losing interest in music mid to late 70's, new music that is. Then the 80's and disco. Guess that's why we do classic rock. And I allway's enjoyed practice as much as gig's. Once I had a drummer say to me "it's good enough" and my jaw dropped, just speechless. I've never felt like I played good enough and allway's strove to improve.

On the money topic, getting paid to do something you love...when people would ask what we charged to play a private party, I would say we play for free. You'd see their eyes light up, then I'd say, "but we charge $1000 to set up all this equipment and tear it down".

The first band I was in we took the (little) money we made and put it towards PA gear or rehearsal room (mini storage) rent instead of splitting it. Having a gig coming up does make you work harder on being better for sure. Other than that, it's a pain in the ass.

The bad thing is that you had to play dreamboat annie ♫ dreamboat annie ♫, If I made a Lennon cover band, I would have to sing Imagine. Too bad. Then my band used to play Beatles, so I had to play along with them, they played dig a horse, and mr postman, and back in the USSR. I just said give me some chords, didnt even bother to play correctly.. then it's not that I hate the beatles, but those songs, if it was my taste, I would have chosen We can work it out.

There's also something different about playing live in front of a compared to just playing alone or jamming. Its more meaningful and fun. Especially for me playing worship music to aerve God

I actually retired from live playing before the pandemic so I was ready in a strange way. I began committing all my time to videos and practicing. Eventually LiveStreams happened and I've been having a ton of fun with them but mostly my lesson website took off because people were stuck at home and wanted to learn guitar. This also coincided with me releasing my video called "This Should Be Everyone's First Guitar Lesson" which is now close to 4 million views. That brought a lot of people to my main site. It's been a wild ride.

What is this PAY you talk about? LMAO, Dont think i have gotten paid to play in a while. We lost our bass player a year ago and we ended up playing with just 2 guitarist. Our current bassist saw us play and came backstage and we just hit it off. The guy as a person is kool, we get along...But when have a gig, the first thing that he asks is HOW MUCH WE GETTING PIAD. Currently trying to finish our second recording when then Covid hit and just killed our momentum. Dont know if we will keep playing, but one thing i really wanna do is finish the album. Probably some of the best stuff we have written and really want to put it out. Anyways great video again...really enjoy hearing your stories about playing live.

I miss playing with others, because my bassist is just emo now and won't stray away from playing aside an iPad filled with emo songs, and it made me feel like I was just babysitting him now, so, I just had to quit and just play with myself.

hey, the video maker will probably miss this question and its completely unrelated to the topic, but hopefully one of you kind gentlemen might be able to help me out. Im new to playing electric, and im enjoying progressing, but one of the major problems im getting is finger pain and overall akwardness because i lost the tips of a couple fingers in an accident at work. specifically my ring and middle finger. theres not enough shaved off to where it effects my overall finger length, but damn does pressure on the poor little things hurt. is there any sort of finger covering you can buy that'll still let me feel the strings properly while still keeping most of the pain away? or am i just gonna have to resign myself to getting used to it?

I have no idea if you will ever see this but maybe you could try to find something that is cushioned inside but somewhat hard on the outside. Maybe those finger condoms that are used for watch making or something, stuffed with a bit of cotton. It might not work at all, and just mute the strings you hit, but who knows without trying. I cant say for certain of course, but another thing might just be that the scar tissue needs time to breakdown and adapt. I have a scar on the tip of my ring finger of my left hand that really hurt when I started about a year and a half ago, but after practicing for a few months the pain went away completely and the tip of that finger became more soft like the rest. It might not apply though if there is no finger tip at all and its just scar tissue and bone. I wish I could give a concrete answer, but that is just my random thoughts on it. If you can your doctor might be able to give you some advice perhaps. Your mileage may vary though.

There are little things you can slip over the ends of your fingers but if they are really painful, I would suggest speaking to your doctor. Tony Iommi had a similar infirmity but managed to overcome it. I hope you do too!
