As I recall, for permanent residency (not citizenship) you need Euros 500,000 minimum deposited in a Monaco bank and it cannot drop below that amount. To maintain residency you need to live in Monaco for 6 months out of every 12 month period. Some people become residents but may live in other parts of Europe or the world for 6 months. In that way they still don't pay personal income tax. You don't have to buy a property. You can rent, but it must be a minimum 12 month lease.

I used to live in Monaco and not everybody is rich in Monaco. Wealthy people simply have the address in Monaco, but they live elsewhere in Europe. Their true address is not in Monaco. So those who stay to live in Monaco are just pretending to be rich, basically "fake it until you make it" mentality is very present there. It is a good idea if you know you are going to make a lot of money, so you make your residence in Monaco. This is what I have done in 2011. I was about to sell a real estate project in Europe, my profit was 15m EUR, so I registered my address in Monaco for a year (total cost around 80,000 EUR including the rent) - and this was my tax, after I got paid, I just returned back to country where I always lived. Sorry, but Monaco is for smart people who don't want to pay taxes.

ok so i lived in monaco for 10 years and this is bullshit, the temperature does drop under 20 degrees celsius in winter, not everyone in monaco is rich, some people are just dating people in mc acting rich. and not everyone in monaco has a boat or a car!

Almost everyone with a clean record can live in Monaco, presuming that they can afford the rent, ranging from 2.000 euro for a low end studio to about 50.000 for a huge appartment in Tour Odeon. For buying the same appartments, multiply by 1000. Almost everyone can get a carte de residence monegasque if they have a bail or hebergement and they have a job in monaco, or can prove that they have a high enough income. On the other hand, you didn`t get the citizenship - the monegasque nationality. You won`t get it in less than 18 years, no matter what you do. You`re talking nonsense and misleading people.

i`m 30, me and my wife live in Monaco next to Starbucks Fontvieille. And no, you don`t have two citizenships, or at least, the monegasque citizenship isn`t one of them, simply because when you apply for citizenship you must renounce any others. now go tell daddy (to whom you owe everything you brag about) that someone virtually slapped you in the face. au revoir et a très bientôt Enjoy your laugh :)

I live in monaco and i was born here and in the there was 2 Fake stuff . Not "everyone" have luxury car and luxury boat . You forget to mention that as long as the defense, water, electricity and gas services are provided by France. French citizens living in Monaco still had to pay their french taxes.

a lot of apartments are empty because they're just investments, since the house price is always increasing (specifically in monaco) they buy and sell, and theres always someone tha wants a house in monaco, so they're easy to sell. Not everybody own sport cars and yachts... there's always "normal" people...

it's the same with Brunei. They don't impose income tax on their people even expats. Their economy is fueled by their Monarchy's controlled oil and gas reserves. While in Monaco their riches comes from revenue. And most rich people hide their wealth there.

not 100% entirely. They can avoid taxes but not 100%, they can only lesson the burden. They also donate millions upon millions to charities for write offs and that also helps lesson the tax burden. Billionaires though, they have around the clock accountants who make certain the Billionaire will have a smaller tax bracket than their janitors. However, even with that smaller tax brackets, they're still paying in the high 10's of millions in taxes.

Inheritance tax is the main reason the super rich chose to live in small apartments in Monaco, rather than huge mansions in France or anywhere else, and this is not even on your list! Jack Nicholson called it Alcatraz for rich people, they are all trapped there, if they lived in the UK/France/USA, upon their deaths about 40% of their wealth goes to the government.

the fact about Monaco's climate is that it is not different from the one of northern italy or south France and the temperature can get a lot below 20 degrees. For example, today it's 16 degrees in Monaco and during January this number gets usually under 10. Correct it please!!!

I DO live in Monaco! I suggest the lady checks out some of her 'facts' first, e.g. the temperature in winter and that not everybody living in Monaco is a millionaire/billionaire, far from it. Having said that it IS a great place to live.
