Exactly, only the actual monarch gets a number (unless they’re the first), their consort is just referred to as Queen Whomever for the life of the King. There’ve been several ‘Queen’ Elizabeth’s prior to the current Queen.

The first time I saw her was in Iron Lady. The scene where she is sitting on the bed listening to her mother and tears welling up in her eyes, that moment, realizing that her mother is in the throes of Alzheimer's and had to be reminded again that "dad is dead". It was as authentic as it gets, had me teared up as well. My heart broke for her. Such sublime and superb acting.

Huge Colman fan. From the US, so I didn’t discover her until Broadchurch, and was completely blown away. How did I not know of her insane talent until then?? Truly, I think she is one of the greats and her star continues to rise, and deservedly so. Would fly across the pond without question to see her on stage.

Her performance in Tyrannosaur is brutal and heartbreaking. She completely destroyed me and I'll be haunted by her portrayal of that character for ages to come. Such a versatile actress. Her range is frankly ridiculous. Fingers crossed for an Oscar for her. She deserves it.

She's quickly become my favorite actress out there right now. She brings a level of effortless humanity to everything she does. I can't think of another actress that does such consistently beautiful work. Even if she's in something that's not great, she transcends the material and is always brilliant.

In Hyde Park on Hudson Colman didn't play Queen Elizabeth I (who was born in the 16th Century), she play Queen Elizabeth, wife of King George the VI. Honestly, it's not that difficult to fact check these things.

Stupid reasons... stupid nasal American narration... stupid. But I liked it bec at least they figured out we should like her. A great actress! That's why. PS. Why shouldn't she be nice? Stupid. PPS. Am American myself... am fortunately lacking that nasal stooopid accent...& no offence meant. But a British or standard American accent might have improved the general effect.

Glad to see that The Favourite has brought her to the attention of a bigger audience. I also suggest her searing work in Tyrannosaur and her hilarious and utterly heartbreaking performance in the brilliant comedy series Twenty Twelve - which was about the lead-up to the London Olympics.

One of my favourite actresses of all time! I've seen most of her films starting with Confetti, Hot Fuzz, Grow Your Own as well as in TV's Broadchurch, her turn as "Mother" in an episode of Dr Who, in Black Books with Dylan Moran, Drunk History and on the UK version of "Who Do You Think You Are?". One thing I have to say about the difference between British actors and American actors (with very few exceptions) is that the Brits are mostly very down to earth people who are blessedly candid and genuinely seem surprised when they win an award. Go get that Oscar Olivia!!

I'm so pleased she's getting a bit of love Stateside. She's amazing. I've loved her for years, but Broardchurch blew me away. An amazing 2 seasons with an amazing cast. She was incredible as Elle. and The Favourite was pure joy. Everything she's in she shines. Les Mis on a Sunday night is brilliant, and again, she is flawless.

Number 11. Her role as the mother of a gay teen in the hilarious Jonathan Harvey 12 part comedy, "Beautiful People." It's a hoot and she, as always is fab, showing off a massive range of skills....get it on DVD, you won't be disappointed! 😉👍

I have loved her since Peep Show and Green Wing and she is so sweet and funny. I've never been happier for an actress to succeed. If you have not seen Flowers I highly recommend it as well. It is available on Netflix.

I first discovered (and fell in love with) Olivia and a whacky british comedy called The Green Wing. She had a tiny role in it but made me laugh in every scene she was in. Im so glad she is getting the recognition she deserves

Funny how America is only finding out about her when she’s been a National Treasure in the UK for years. Her performance in Tyrannosaur was amazing and I hope she wins the Oscar, but I think Glenn Close deserves the Oscar more due to her sublime performance in The Wife and because of how many times she has been nominated.

One of my favorites! Coleman has such amazing range! I knew her best for Hot Fuzz and Doctor Who, so, when I saw that she was in Broadchurch, I was unsure how she would do. (The whole Tom Cruise/Gary Oldman concern, as mentioned in the video.) Wow! I was blown away at her ability to make me believe her character's emotions. I have seen her in plenty since and cannot wait to see The Favorite.

Those at MsMojo obviously think the vastly different era portrayed in 'Hyde Park on Hudson' to that of 'Elizabeth', 'Elizabeth: Golden Age', 'Anonymous', 'Shakespeare in Love', Mary Queen of Scots'...er... 'Bill' (!)... to name some of the more recent ones... is that of artistic licence! Not demanding they know the 'rules' or history but... they must know the films, right?!

If Olivia Colman wins an Oscar, she'll be joining the likes of Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, and Colin Firth who won their respective Oscars for their portrayal of British monarchs. Glenn Close is still tight on the Oscar victory. It's gonna give a competition between Close and Colman, so it's hard to predict which of the two will win the major prize for Best Actress.

@@scorpioninpink Everything is possible, all right. There were cases that in the Best Actress category that it won a tie such the case with Katherine Hepburn and Barbara Streisand. If the winning tie between Glenn Close and Olivia Colman really happens, this is gonna be gold. But for now, it's hard to predict of which of the two will win. It's really unpredictable.

She DID NOT play Queen Elizabeth the First 1533- 1603, reigned 1558- 1603. She played the Queen Dowager, self styled queen mother, consort to QE2's father.

She is a great actress. I knew that after Tyrannasour. If you have not seen it, SEE IT. It's depressing, extremely powerful and she should have won an Oscar for that!!!! I truly hope she wins for The Favourite. I'll be shocked if she doesn't win the BAFTA this Sunday.

I first saw her as prisoner zero in doctor who during Matt Smith's run. Then Broadchurch. She is amazing. Cant wait to see her as the Queen.

Hot Fuzz was the first time I got aware of her, she was really memorable in a movie that was already loud and boisterous. :) Ever since I’ve been watching everything I could find with her, and I have yet to see a performance that could be counted as mediocre or half-arsed, she is indeed truly gifted. Love her!

When this video said that one of her first roles was in 'Hot Fuzz' I thought that was odd as it feels like she's been around forever...just looked on IMDB and she was in loads before that...including 'Green Wing'. So happy she got an Oscar...she definitely deserves it :-)

There's fantastic short she starred in, I think you can find it on YT, called the Karman line - it's weird, and sad and quite wonderful. It's a very very short film so not a waste of time :) (edit for correct film name)
