Photonicinduction and Polar again take control of the power supply but this time test an Electric Kettle to it's limits and beyond, the speed and power is surprising.

An interesting thing about heating water... At some point as you increase the power to the heater, the water will begin to heat more slowly. (If it doesn't pop first) The element will get so hot that film boiling will occur. The element will be so hot that a layer of steam will form around it that will actually insulate the water. There is a sweet spot as you increase heater temperature where you reach the maximum heat transfer rate just before film boiling happens.

So I live in 120v land, and the electric tea kettles around here only put out 1500 watts. It takes a good 10 minutes to boil a full kettle. I had wanted to get a European 3000w 240v kettle and run a dedicated circuit for it. But in the end I just got a regular 120v kettle from the Walmart and fed it 240v. And the crazy thing is, it DIDN'T EXPLODE! It seems to like it just fine? It now runs at 6000 watts instead of 1500 and it boils the water a lot faster.

*EXCELLENT WORK*, Mr. Photon. :D Well, there's that question answered, _"In-The-Name-Of-Science"_ of course. :D Now all we need, is a step-up transformer supplied with every kettle, (or purchaseable as an optional extra, marketed as a 'kettle super-charger') and Cuppa-Tea-Time will be so much more epic, ROFL. The only downside with that is, after purchasing the optional 'kettle super-charger', the person buying it will then need a specialist circuit wired in for his kettle because of the extra GRUUUUNT it will pull off the mains, LMAO! Yes, another very satisfying video placed into the Favourites List. A long-asked question, now satisfyingly answered. *_YESSS, PEOPLES !!! :D_* Of course it's possible to make a kettle heat the water noticeably faster.....Just stuff extra volts in there, RIP IT RIIIIIIIGHT UP, and....... Whoomph! There it is! :D A job well done, for the electrically curious among us. I know when I done the video _"Kettle cranked on 270v"_ my kettle warmed the water _sliiiightly_ faster but the slight increase in speed was more-or-less not noticeable. I needed something which gave it that bit much more, but..... Aaaaah, My variac only does 270v. I wish that they'd make a variac that would kick out a good 420v on the overwind. It would be so much more Ssssatisfying for kettle boil-ups, toast-cooking and the good ole 'loved-all-round' MOTOR POPPAGE. :D Speaking of poppage, the way the kettle in this vid let loose was rather interesting. I was kinda expecting a non-exciting internal element fail and for the kettle to stop, but..... *_Look, peoples..... WE HAVE SPAAAARKS!_* _"The newly made high-speed, single-use kettle, now available to buy for £11.99. When it throws sparks....KETTLE'S BOILED!"_ TOTAL ROFL. Thanxx for doing this one, Mr. photon.
